Ricky Martin Gay

Originally published at The Other Blog by Pop Tart. Please leave any comments there.

ricky_martin_baby_82008-thumb If you have ever seen him prancing around on stage touching himself you might get the impression Ricky Martin is gay.  If you have ever heard the pretentious (to midwestern ears) accent you might think Ricky Martin is gay.  If you look at the fact he has through a surrogate had twin boys you might think he is gay.  if you are obsessed with the notion that someone famous might be gay, then Ricky Martin might be gay.  Here is the thing though, it doesn’t fucking matter if Ricky Martin is gay!

Is he sticking his dick in your mouth?  Is he sticking in your ass?  If you are concerned whether Ricky Martin is gay you probably speak out your ass enough for one of those questions to be redundant.  So what if he likes men?  If you like his music or that of any other potentially gay man Clay Aiken then does it matter what his sexual preference is?

When you belt out any Queen song do you first ask yourself should I be singing this because Freddy Mercury was gay?  Do you feel the need to check your straightness when you catch yourself humming along to something by Elton John?  Does listening to Hüsker Dü change how you feel about the opposite sex?  Does listening to REM make you want to watch hot man love fan vids?  The answer is, of course not.

If you like Rick Martin’s music it doesn’t matter if he is gay.  if you like to look at Ricky Martin does it matter if he is gay since the chances of you having sex with him is next to nothing which ever way you swing.  If you don’t like his music, can’t stand the sight of him, or aren’t gay yourself why are you concerned whether Ricky Martin is gay?

Give it a rest!

Comic Reviews for 8/20/08
I've got a bunch of reviews for comics I've read today, so if you don't care about what I thought, then I'll spare you by putting it behind an lj-cut, but if you're interested, then feel free to do the clicky-clicky.  I tried to keep it spoiler-free, but what I might think isn't a spoiler might be a spoiler for you, so read at your own risk.

Bah

Words for today: 1,821
Total words for 2008: 374,194

Very ordinary day today, but it couldn’t be helped. Real life tends to get in the way, especially when you have leaking pipes. Spent a chunk of the afternoon waiting for the plumber, and another chunk with him here.

Still feeling a general lack of inspiration. Meh.

Writer's Block: Your Favorite Series: One Last Go Round

If you could pick any TV show that has been off the air to come back for one more season, which show would you pick and why?

The 4400.

I want to know the end of the story. I want to know if how Jordan and Shawn forgive each other and learn to trust each other again, at least long enough to have sex in every room of the Center and everywhere in Promise City (and in Seattle City Hall).

It was an amazing show and still my favorite.

And now we've established I'm a sad sad little girl, I'm going to finish my 30k Jordan/Shawn slash fanfiction. Because I can and I've only got 3 days left.

Flights of fancy
Well, I figure our family and friends might as well hear it here first: [info]lolcatz and I finally booked holiday flights back to Michigan. Or rather, we booked pre-holiday flights since we're going to be there and then back to Seattle before Christmas. Considering it was a savings of $200 per ticket, I think it's safe to say that we'll just have to bring the holiday cheer with us instead of relying on some date on the calendar.

But man, I tell you. Even getting that outlier flight wasn't easy. Prices are crazy! I've been checking them diligently for weeks now, running different dates and airports. There are a few optimal airports in the hinterlands and then some farther-out major airports which occasionally have better rates. I've checked them all, sometimes even combining them for different outgoing and incoming flights. No luck. Today, for whatever reason, all the airlines that service those backwoods airports started lowering prices for mid-December. It was fascinating, watching the rates shift within the space of an hour. An optimal scenario finally appeared, and we jumped on it.

We'll be back in the Motherland for a week, which seems like a long time...but, anyone who's ever traveled as a couple knows it isn't. Our hometowns are an hour apart, which means the guy and I will spend half our week with one family and half with the other. Counting flight days, that's really about three days each. Not a lot of time. Throw visiting friends and extended family into the mix...yikes! It gets tough. Fortunately, our families are cool enough to be able to roll with this. I have friends whose families have gotten hostile over the timeshare thing, which really sucks because traveling is hard enough.

But, I'm excited to have a white Christmas...er, pre-Christmas or whatever. Probably the idealized version from my childhood won't pan out, but here's to hoping for snow that's pretty on trees and houses...and well-plowed off the roads.

Oh My God !²

Another freeking to-do list
So, I really like lists. This is my third to-do list >.> Obviously, I either have way too much to do or I don't have enough.

The theme of this is embroidery, like most of my last couple posts.

1. Finish Amy's freaking birthday present! It's not that hard!
2. Start working on baby bibs. This might be a little more difficult :(
3. Start working on Savin's thingy-mcdealypants

Ideas!

Amy's birthday gift is half-way done, so I don't need ideas for that one. I will also be working on a three frogs pattern for Amy on top of this, but that comes after the baby gifts and Savin's quote thing.

The baby gift has been changed from a baby blanket to a series of bibs. Three for three frogs, one with a lion and a palm tree, one or two Mickey Mouse patterns from a book I'm waiting for, and a few misc. I might have to buy more patterns if I can't find any. Oh noes.

I plan on teaching myself a satin stitch so I might practice that while working on Savin's quote thing. I have a Satin stitch alphabet in one of my sampler books, which is nice. I actually want to try silk thread with this so I'll price check that next time I go to JoAnn's. I also need a differently sized needle than what I use so I can get all of the threads I need. I can also try to get a higher count aida cloth to make the satin stitch look better?

Technical shit:

  • Pick up waste canvas

  • Pick up fabric, 1yd by 1yd

  • pick up flannel

  • moar aida cloth, plz?

  • moar thread (DMC should be color-safe)

  • learn satin stitch

  • pick up size 24 embroidery needles

Unfortunately, all of the things crossed off of my original list aren't completed items but the no longer necessary items. -twiddles thumbs- I should be in bed.

There be changes afoot

As of today bookbogan is on haitus for TWO MONTHS. I know that's a long time, but I'm getting married on Halloween, and I need to concentrate on that, and my novel and ebook writing.

When I return this blog will take a much more structured form, and I'll be posting more often. It will work like this:

monday: writing post
wednesday: review (book, music, website, whatever)
friday: random and amusing.

In the meantime, you might like to have a look at my new website www.steffgreen.com, There will be a bit of content going up over the next two months (but probably not too much) and in mid/late november it will start getting a lot busier as my first ebooks go live. I'm very proud of what I have so far, as I've managed to teach myself basic html code in an afternoon. Go me! Anyway, have a looksie if you're interested.

Woohooo!
It is a victory dance up in here, and maybe a little bit of a milestone, too.

Today our editor at Samhain wrote to tell us she really enjoyed our Big Book Of Doom, the one that started this Writing Journey back in October. It's sort of hard to remember that time since contracts for (as of yesterday) 15 books have come in between our first steps and today.

Also that sort of boggles my mind because fifteen is sort of a big number, and once we sign the contract for the book (at the moment known as Crux thanks to [info]ymp) that will be sixteen and holy cow, I'd need more than 3 hands to count that high.

Maybe I'm in a bit of shock.

There are three books on sale now, three going on sale in September and three in October. I know we have at least one in November and two in December.

I'm starting to wonder if we're really androids. Except can an android wonder if it's an android? I seem to recall that is bad.

And now I must go soothe Donna, who seems to be having a panic attack of some sort. That would make her probably not an android. The jury is still out on me.

Of Pigs and Pens. Or something.
I am a little green pig in a pen of pink ones. Or, more precisely, outside the pen of pink pigs, evicted from the farm. I'm not particularly special but people (a) perceive me as different and (b) alienate me. So there you go.

7 more days to go. Cannot wait.

I’m Allergic to Our Bedroom

Originally published at Enemy of Entropy. Please leave any comments there.

More specifically (I hope), something in it. Not Sam, happily, but every time I go in there, I’m all stuffed up within a few minutes.

We keep that room closed and have a window a/c unit in there, because the house a/c just doesn’t keep up so well.We had to put a unit in Katie’s room, too–it really wasn’t factored in to the tonnage on the a/c unit when someone finished a former garage, and it doesn’t have enough ducts. Now we need one for the guest room. I’m wondering if there’s something about the air not circulating to the rest of the house that’s causing dust to settle in there?

The cat is seldom allowed in the room at all, and we don’t have any other pets. There aren’t any plants in the room.

We haven’t been using the air cleaners, because I can only get their filters by mail-order and just didn’t get around to getting new ones. I guess I need to order them and see if that helps.

Bah.

In nicer news, the girl and I went to the nice library today. I had gone through my “to-read” shelf at Good Reads and requested a bunch of books. More of them than I expected came through all at one time, whereupon I learned that they allow a maximum of 75 books to be checked out at once. Whoops! I had to put two back.

I have plenty to read now, though!

Sewing
I have a month to sew an entire blanket for Angel and Randall's baby shower. Eep! I'm still not done with Amy's birthday gift! And I promised to make something for [info]saintsavin. I don't even have a pattern for baby Marshall, though I do have ideas (the corners bordered in ponies and elephants and a spot with his name)... I also need to find a border.

Meep.

Allez, on va dormir !
23337 mots.
Putain.
