    Hello! Two grad students here about to move to New York (in August) for six months, to do dissertation research at a Columbia archive (my husband) and to write my diss. (me).

    Does anyone have any tips on finding short-term housing in Manhattan, commuting distance to Columbia? Any websites that worked? It seems like it's pretty standard for leases to be long-term around here, and we're having trouble.

    Also, if anyone knows anyone who's subletting from August to December or January, please feel free to let me know.

    anybody else pissed at Columbia University for buying out all those cool stores(Columbia Bagel, West Side Market), or am I the only Morningside Heights guy in the community?

    My favorite parts of the Upper West Side are the Columbia campus, Riverside Park, Kimmy's Video, and Global Inc.

    My Cingular service is SHIT up here. It seems to work better in lower Manhattan, but I don't really know if that's coincidence or what. Anyone else have problems with Cingular on the UWS specifically?
