Summer Job Opportunities
I'm originally from Saskatchewan, but have been working in Orlando, Florida for about a year now. This whole applying, accepting, choosing, and sealing the deal process is insane to do without having the chance to scope things out and working off of a memory of a visit-to-an-old-friend-on-campus from two years ago. I'm using my internet sources as much as possible!

That being said, I'm mainly focussing on the financial end of things right now. I'm probably not going to fly back down here to work in between years of school, so I may stay in Guelph (and area?). Again, being from the Sask I know very little of the geography of Ontario. I had a stint in Smiths Falls, which helps me to know Ottawa. And that's about it.

So, my question is basically about job opportunities in the summer. Is there much available in Guelph? I won't be forced to header' to Toronto, will I?

ps. I'd love to know Guelph, the large town/small city that it is. I had an amazing experience for a week or so.... two years back. The official website is lovely and all, but it there a better way to get the scope of the city without getting the glossy tourism spin on things? Active lj groups, personal opinions, websites, references?

Check out www.jobbank.gc.ca
I searched under Student/Youth Job Search and then Kitchener and area. There are some listings for the Guelph area. I've noticed that there have been some listings for Camp Leaders/Counsellors. By your pic I'd say you are good with kids?

Another good site is www.thecannon.ca
The site has job listings, textbooks for sale, apartments for rent etc.

Good luck!

Haha, you could say that. Walt Disney World is pretty decent reference ;)

Thanks for the response... camp seems pretty up my alley!

i lived in guelph for a few summers when iwas doing my undergrad-
there are jobs, depending on your interests- even jobs on the bus routes (in case you dont' have a car)

if you have a car- there are tons of jobs in cambridge (~20 minute drive), especially if you don't mind working in call centres.

competition can be fairly fierce, especially if you want a job in your field, but there is always something to be found.
that being said, it can often mean that there are lots of opportunities elsewhere in ontario, epsecially in uni towns where you can get cheap accomodation

PS- I generally used workopoliscampus.com (you can get the information to register fromt he university and it tends to have better jobs than the gov jobbank)

Thanks, it's a relief. As much as I'd love to work at an ice cream stand all summer, I'd like to explore other ideas.

Guelph = awesome. You can usually get jobs at the university if you're a student, or around downtown if you apply earlier (like in feb/march) :)

hey if you've worked at disney you can apparantly get a job easily at african lion safari. but you definitely need a car to get there

I'll second that as I recently moved from Guelph to Toronto after finishing my degree, and can't wait to one day move back (after I'm done the next two years of a college program).
