unsung_rhr - a community about all those gems of R/Hr fanfiction that get lost amid the popular and the god-awful. We're not here to rec you the well-known classics - wonderful as they are - but the diamonds in the rough that, for one reason or another, don't have the attention they deserve. We're happy to snuffle around every corner of the fandom to find pieces worthy of our favourite couple, loyal to their canon characters (Ron, in particular, must be appreciated) and encompass all the passion, quick fire wit and downright sexiness that Ron and Hermione share. "I've written a Ron/Hermione fic, now what do I do?" - Fear not, friends, we'd like to impart on you some helpful advice for if you're stuck on how to get readers.
Firstly, it's highly recommended that you get yourself a beta (proof reader) for make sure there aren't any off-putting grammar, spelling or characterisation/plot mistakes. You can ask a friend, appeal for help communities designed for that exact thing, such as
hp_beta or even ask on a R/Hr community. Most fanfiction websites make it mandatory that one of their betas (like CM or SQ) gloss through your fic anyway, so you can always use that.As for websites we recommend - a big, glittering arrow is pointing you to Checkmated, a R/Hr dedicated, all-ratings-accepted site that provides you a beta and gets a big audience, but be sure to check their guidelines. Figgy is also eager to point out Sugar Quill - an incredibly canon-devoted site (also Harry/Ginny and Remus/Sirius - now Remus/Tonks - enthusiasts) that forces a rigorous, though very helpful, beta service. Nothing too racy there, though, and newbies can only sign up on intake days - so be sure to keep your eye out. Budding sites also include Simply Undeniable, (there's the friendly offer of a beta, and the site design is adorable) Hand me my Robes (An archive that welcomes all het pairings and requires stories to be rated R or NC-17), and for your delightfully racier pieces send an email to Restricted Section. There's also the gigantic sites: FictionAlley (wonderfully sectioned into genres) and, if you dare, FanFiction.Net (where you'll get a huge, if not always eloquent audience).
But that's not all! Live journal itself is fantastic for archiving your fic, and you can get a great range of feedback if you know how. The key is to pimp in the right places! Popular communities for R/Hr fans include
honestlyronald, ronhermione and goodship. We also highly reccomend gingerfriction - a more sophisticated comm that doesn't spam with icons and manips, and also has a newsletter co-run by cutekeeper herself, and encourages, in our experience, incisive reviewers. Same goes for more general comms such as weasleyworship (a Weasley comm that attracts readers from all over the fandom) and books_freckles (a Hermione/Any Weasley comm that doesn't get enough of the best Weasley, and Figgy admits to getting great constructive criticism from there). Just remember: write a concise, engaging summary; get your html pleasing to the eye; there's a fine line between pimping your fic and acting like you want to make love to it; and for all that is Ron and Holy, don't use netspeak. .:.
