    desa's disks and controller have been swapped into an identical but completely different chassis. we shall see if that keeps him from hosing himself. if so, I will attempt to make arrangements to keep the borrowed hardware.

    desa is now blocking SMTP connections from 7,000+ /24s (that's over 1.75 million addresses, for the CIDR-challenged). the list gets rebuilt every 6 hours, and nasty ICMP messages get sent back to offenders. I'm filtering out known good ranges from the block list, so I'm not expecting any problems, but if you get people complaining about bounced mail, let me know.

    jawbreaker will be going down about quarter past. estimated downtime is between two and three hours.

    there's going to be an interruption in service to jawbreaker starting something later today and lasting hopefully at most 12-24 hours. I apologize for the short notice, but it's something on the order of an emergency. more to come.

    Digital Island Marina Del Ray (MDR) Data Center suffered a sustained network disruption which affected multiple Digital Island customers at the MDR facility.

    After extensive diagnosis and troubleshooting by Digital Island Network Engineering staff and third party vendors, the network disruption ceased at 10:45 GMT after a duration of 9 hours 9 minutes.
