PIXAR MARATHON ON THIS SUNDAY AT UNISFA FROM 8:30AM!
Was sorting out who can bring what movies but Katie and Nic saved the day with copies of them all 'cept Monsters, Inc.! So, anyone able to bring along Monsters, Inc.?
I have been informed that the fridge is stocked!
If people have portable fans that don't take up too much room, I'd encourage them to bring them along because 20+ people crammed in UniSFA with the blinds down has potential to get uncomfortable.
List of movies being shown: A Bug's Life Toy Story Ratatouille Finding Nemo Toy Story 2 Monsters, Inc. The Incredibles WALL-E
Probably in that order. ( timetable if in that order )

Science Fact, for the two remaining hard SF fans in this club. :-p
Official advertising
Short blurb for those who can’t be bothered with the pdf:
“How advances in science are made, and how they may come to benefit mankind at large are complex issues. Seldom are such advances made alone. Rather, they result from the progress of the scientific community. However, there are research strategies that can substantially increase the probability of one making a discovery. Professor Osheroff will illustrate some of these strategies in the context of a number of well known discoveries including the work he did as a graduate student for which he shared the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1996.”
Tuesday Nov 24th 6pm.
Tickets are FREE!!! However you do have to book/pick them up from the Octagon Theatre box office Mon-Friday 12-4:15pm.

» PIXAR MARATHON
How many people are up for a Pixar Marathon? I've been thinking about having this for a while!
I'll make a complete finalised post about this closer to the actual date we have it. Currently this is what I have planned:
Date: Sunday 15th November [exams end Sat 14th Nov] Location: UniSFA clubroom Time: ~8:30am.
Altogether we have ~15 hours of movies to watch.
The order of viewing: I thought we should start with A Bug's Life so that people who might not want to start as early as 8:30am could straggle in at about 10am which is when we'd be about to start Toy Story which is [I think?] more popular and well-loved.
Can we have the CH key for the night so we can finish watching the movies? Thought I guess that'd depend on how many people hang around that late.
( vague timetable for the day - I figure it will totally not end up like this but I like to be planned anyway )
What are your thoughts on skipping Cars so we could show WALL-E instead? I picked the former because it has the lowest Rotten Tomatoes rating of all the Pixar films. Though maybe we should show Cars instead because everyone has probably already watched WALL-E?
Anyway, thoughts? Suggestions?

» Reminder: Charity Vigil is this Friday!
Hey UniSFAns,
I am here to remind you that the 10th Annual Cameron Hall Charity Vigil is this Friday the 4th of September, starting at 7pm. This year we are supporting Youth Focus, a Perth community-based organisation that provides practical support to young people ages 12 to 18 years old and their families, who are showing signs associated with suicide, depression and self harm.
As usual, you need to get at least $8 sponsorship (collect a form from UniSFA, Unigames, UWAnime or UCC if you haven't already) or pay $10 at the door. Don't sponsor yourself $8, karma's a bitch.
UniSFA will be screening vampire movies and tv shows (Sally has rented out about 10 films to choose from, in all their fanged unsparkly glory.) Other than that, there will be a LAN in UCC, gaming in Unigames and anime in UWAnime to keep you occupied.
Entry includes pizza for dinner, muffins for breakfast as well as tea, coffee and milo, and you can buy stuff from the clubs' fridges/vending machines/whatnot.
SEE YOU THERE

Sorry for the late notice, I thought I had sent this to the list but it turns out I fail at pressing 'send'. Anyway -
We will be reviewing CCC at tomorrow (Tuesday)'s committee meeting at 1pm. Current CCC are:
1. Fnic Browning 2. Ivo Vekemans 3. Will Moore 4. Talitha Milroy 5. Sarah Frankel 6. Lauren Fisher 7. Ellie Wilson 8. James Barker 9. Bec Wright 10. Hayley Moore (as of last week - she can ignore this email)
Can you guys please come to the meeting, or email me (patternsofchaos at gmail.com) about whether you want to continue on or retire from CCC.
Also, if anyone wants to nominate for CCC let me know. Earlier this year we said we didn't want to have more than 10 - so we won't be adding, only replacing.

» SCREENING: Blake's 7 in 16 episodes
Too many of you haven't seen enough amazing sci-fi, so here's my contribution:

Set in the "third century of the second calendar", Blake's 7 follows the exploits of revolutionary Roj Blake as he leads his band of rebels against the forces of the totalitarian Terran Federation which rules the Earth and many of the planets of the galaxy. The Federation controls its citizens using mass surveillance, brainwashing and pacification with drugged food, water and air. Sentenced to deportation to a penal colony on a remote planet, Blake escapes with the help of his fellow prisoners and gains control of the Liberator, an alien spacecraft far in advance of anything the Federation possesses.
I'll be screening B7 in 16 episodes (a more concise way of watching the show than the full four seasons of 54) in an effort to educate and entertain the UniSFA masses! First up on Tuesday we'll be watching The Way Back, Spacefall then maybe Time Squad if we're up for it.
So! When: Starting Tuesday, 4th of August @ 7pm Where: The UniSFA clubroom

» Piffle details
Hi all,
Nic, in his infinite wisdom, has decreed that there shall be a 3xA4 page limit on Piffle entries. On these three pages you may submit ...anything. It can be a short story, poetry, essay, article, drawing etc for the benefit of your fellow UniSFAns. However, he will consider longer entries if they are particularly good/don't make him fall asleep/there aren't enough smaller entries to fill Piffle . Entries are due on Monday the 10th of August and will be rewarded with a ticket to the preview screening of District 9 at VMAX Greater Union Innaloo on 12th August.
If you feel you are too lacking in creative spark to produce an entry for Piffle but still want a ticket to the preview screening, come help us out at the clubroom Busy Bee on Saturday 8th August.
Luck and sugar-sprinkley-happiness to all ,

» Busy bee, piffle and how you can earn tickets to a preview screening of District 9
Hi UniSFAns!
We have got our hands on some free tickets to the preview screening of District 9 (produced by Peter Jackson and directed by Neill Blomkamp - see a trailer here.) The screening is being held on Wednesday 12th August in the new VMax stadium cinema at Greater Union Innaloo - I *think* at 7pm but I am yet to confirm.
So how can you get your hands on a ticket? You have two options: 1. Help out at the UniSFA busy bee on Saturday the 8th of August 2. Submit an entry for Piffle (short story, poetry, article, anything really) by Monday the 10th of August - we know we haven't given you much time, so it doesn't have to be a completely finished product. However, you will need to submit the full thing by whatever date Nic comes up with for it to be published in Piffle!
Send any queries to unisfa-committee at ucc.asn.au
Much love (to your mum),

» bean bag beans + other free stuff
We have three giant bags of bean bag beans (like, from three bean bags worth) that I am going to drop off in Cameron Hall later today, either for someone to take for their own bean bags, or for the refilling of Cameron Hall bean bags.
Please feel free to take them, they will be in giant black bags (if I can find stickers, they will be labeled also).*
Don't worry, if they're not gone by next week I will arrange for them to be collected.*
Also does anyone want a clothes hanging rack? You can view it here.
ALSO we have a fridge going, $200 ONO.
*given I've already packed the study, this is very unlikely **collected into the skip
