Can I say UNC-Charlotte is the dumbest place ever? 1) They somehow lost my immunization records 2) Even though I did the "entrance couseling" early they didn't give me my financial aid...saying it would be 2 weeks 3) Everyone there is a cunt

UNCC has too much redtape.

Unbelievable... (Or maybe not...)

Looking at my online payment account for UNCC, I noticed that this spring I am being billed $1,355 for a meal plan AGAIN... I payed $1,355 the first time assuming that 1.) It would last the entire time here and 2.) I would be eating a lot of UNCC food. Neither of those assumptions held out apparently. I cook everything myself, and the meal plan (while carrying over the leftover cash into the spring) nevertheless MUST be renewed again since I am living in a high rise. Are they out of their minds!? The only way to get out of this is to move into some other type of campus apartment housing, or leave campus housing all together. I'm not paying another 1K plus for something I'm not going to even use. And in case you were wondering, NO, THERE ARE NO REFUNDS for leftover cash. It cannot be gotten back once payed.

Any advice out there? There's still time to change my housing situation (though I'd have to do it fast.)

Special Ed. class assignment, and I need help!

I am a student at UNC-Charlotte and am currently taking the Introduction to Special Ed (2100) in the College of Education there. As part of an assignment, I have to interview one of the following:

-Special education teacher of the class you observed
-Teacher of gifted students
-Teacher of English as Second Language learners
-Speech/Language Pathologist
-School Psychologist
-School Counselor

I also have to observe two special education settings, whether it be inclusion or in a resource room.

I was hoping perhaps that there might be one of the above in this community that I could shadow and/or interview. If so, please comment here or email me at dresdendays (at) gmail (dot) com.

has anyone taken LBST 2102 (global connections) with bonaparte or hammer? i've narrowed it down to those two. i emailed and asked them what their class was about. bonaparte's sounded really interesting (it was about how we view the world through our own cultural lens-i'm an anthro student so that's right up my alley) but work-intensive (a group project!). hammer just told me the title of hers-world religons in america.

i'd appreciate any insight. i checked ratemyprofessor, but hammer wasn't on there and bonaparte's reviews were all for COMM1101. i'm taking 4 other 3000-level classes next semester, plus a friday internship so i need ONE easy thing on my schedule!

Why Is This Campus Like a Zombie Flick w/o the Zomibes on Weekends?

I'm a transfer student from the famous city of Fayetteville (transvestite prostitute capital of the world, or so we like to think so...) so I really don't know Charlotte all that well at all. I'm sure that there are tons of wonderful, interesting things to do here... but I haven't noticed anything. Didn't bring a car with me because I figured big city = you can walk everywhere (no one told me that UNCC was like an island in the middle of a asphalt ocean.)

What do people do for fun on weekends around here? Is there anything to do on campus, or does everyone make a mass exodus off campus each weekend? Does not having a car mean I need to pretend like this is prison and take up studying the Good Book or law texts on prisoners' rights?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I understand that this isn't NYC or LA, but there must be something to do around here...

Can someone suggest a good martial arts school here?

I just moved here to Charlotte in August, and I want to find a local place to train in a martial art. I'm not really picky about which type, because I primarily just want some kind of foundation to build from. The problem seems to be though, that most of the places around here cater more towards children than adults.

Can anyone suggest a good school or teacher in Charlotte? Preferably within 5 miles or less (because I would be walking) of the school?

I appreciate it...

Student Organization

Hi,

A friend and I are trying to get a new student organization started for alternative thinking people, those who don't fit in, anyone who hates working for a big corporations and general weirdos. We're just getting started, but we have half a website so far and two of the eight members we need for recognition. This is going to be an organization where you can choose to either get heavily involved in it or simply join up to show your support for something different, and nothing more. It's totally free and it can be about anything you want it to be about, because really it's just about individuality, freedom, originality and getting people to actually think for themselves.

This is our (pretty crap so far but hopefully soon to get better) website:

renegademonkeys.talkhost.info (our constitution is under "info," which is pretty much all that's on there so far)

Email me at renegademonkeysgroup@gmail.com if you have any questions or want to be a founding member. We're *trying* to get free t-shirts for founders, to spread the word of our club.

on campus part time job (10 hours/wk) $9/hr

I know the semester hasn't even started yet, but if you will be a UNCC student this fall and are looking for a very part-time job I wanted to alert you to the opportunity. I saw it on the UNCC jobs website this morning.

The official title for the job is Public Information Worker II, but basically you will be working the UNCC Switchboard. This is a number that anyone can call to get transferred to a department, person or building. So for example I call 687-2000 and you pick up the phone and say "UNCC Switchboard, how can I direct you?". I ask for the Belk College of Business, Dean's office. You would look up the phone number there and transfer the call. Pretty easy, yeah?

Right now they're looking for someone who can work 12pm-2pm Monday-Friday and they prefer someone with switchboard experience. It pays $9/hour which is very good for on-campus. Again you have to be a currently enrolled student to apply.

If you're interested just call Cathy Brown at 704-687-4286 and mention you saw the posting on the UNCC jobs website.

Also there will be a part-time on and off campus job fair on August 25th near the library and career center.

kitten to a good home

An adorable little kitten was left abandoned at my apartment complex. She actually ran into my apartment when I opened the door the other morning to walk my dog. I can't keep her though because I wouldn't be able to afford to get her all the things she needs. She's a beautiful black and white kitten. She's black all over except for white feet and some white on her belly. She seems to be about 6 weeks old or a little more; but she's pretty small. I have more pictures that I will email upon request. Please let me know ASAP if you're interested. I'm located in the University Area! I thought I would try adopting her out before taking her to the humane society. I'm asking $5 to ensure that she goes to a good home. Thanks!

There's also a picture of her sleeping beside my beagle over on my myspace page.

Michelle
Transferring over

Hi, my name is Kevin. I have just been accepted to transfer over to UNCC. I was taking classes over at Elon University and then took a few classes at CPCC. I'm planning on finishing up my degree at UNCC. I want to continue my major of Information Systems. So who is in that field of study and can give me some advice on that major, professors in that department, anything else you can think of.
I'm currently living in Charlotte and working at an Auto Bell Car Wash.

This is Stupid Yet Vital...

This is not that important, but I still have to know...

I'm coming to UNCC this fall as a junior transfer, and I have to ask: Are there any places near/on campus for Chinese or Japanese food? I think that I'd die if I were stuck eating burgers or pizza for two years...

Also, on a more practical note... What have been your experiences with dorming at UNCC? Likes, dislikes, things that I should know?

Any Japanese Students Out There?

Hey, I haven't actually begun attending the school yet, but I'll be transferring in come fall. I have a question for some of you...

Does/Has anybody here take/taken Japanese courses at UNCC? If you have/are, what do you think about them? This is one of the few schools in North Carolina that actually has Japanese above the 2000 level, so that made a big impact in my school decision. I'm interested to hear what people think. Thanks.

Pasting this directly from my latest personal journal entry, at the suggestion of nurrynur

I'm exactly 3 classes (plus student teaching) away from graduation...now, I wonder when they'll offer those three classes. I'm taking SPED 4111 this summer, and then will have to take SPED 4112 and 4210 at some point before I can student teach. And I still have to be a full time student for the rest of my time here, in order to stay on the parents insurance. Any suggestions for easy A bullshit classes I can take?

found! a coffee mug!

i was walking past the bench on the curvy sidewalk that runs parallel to the sidewalk that runs past the library. there was a stainless steel coffee mug on the sidewalk. my friend that i was with insisted that i take it since it was a nice mug, but i already have one, and! i think the mug was practically brand new. it still had the barcode sticker on it and whatnot.

anyway...

if you or someone you know has lost this mug, please leave a comment! i will happily return it to you.
