omgomg (continued)

This morning the friendly UPS man showed up with a package from the British Consulate that I had to sign for, and I just booked a cheap-ass one-way flight to London on British Airways.

I now have everything I need to go to England. HOLY FUCK I'LL BE THERE IN TWELVE DAYS

Weekend!

WOOHOO!

(Another) 2012 Olympics rant and other stuff.

Ok, so what's this we hear today? The London 2012 Olypics stadium is going to cost half a billion pounds to build! Only to be knocked down after the events are over?! OK, so WTF? They are going to take half a billion pounds, from tax payers, whether said tax payers are in favour of the Olympics coming here or not, to build a stadium for 2 weeks of games, only to destroy the stadium afterwards?

As if to add insult to injury, this is on the same day that it's announced the the government wont be giving out money to help those who are struggling to get by in this increasingly costly world with ever more expensive gas and electric bills. Well that's alright, a few thousand pensioners may freeze to death this winter, but at least we'll have a shiny new stadium for 2012... for 2 weeks. Nice to know the government have their priorities in order! /sarcasm.

Also, how is it I seem to be the only one concerned about this Super Collider machine that's being switched on in Switzerland next week, which has a 1 in 50 million chance of creating a black hole which could engulf the Earth? OK, so it's a 1 in 50 million chance... but that's a 1 in 50 million chance I don't wanna take!

Yeah I tend to get super paranoid about stuff like this, and maybe I watch too much Doctor Who... and maybe I shouldn't have watched The Horns of Nimon last night (a Doctor Who episode which focuses on a black hole that they just happened to be showing on telly), but they can say it's safe until the cows come home, but I'm still gonna be fretting about it all week!

In other news, I'm off to an anti-vivisection demo tomorrow, so wish me luck with that. I was hoping to make it to the protest in Worcester last week, for when David Cameron was there, sprouting his bullshit. Unfortunately I wasn't able to go, so was a bit gutted by that, so I am happy about going to tomorrow.

Apart from that there's nothing much else to write about, so I'll leave it there for now, so until next time (unless of course we all get sucked into a black hole and crushed into a singularity by then),

Stay Beautiful,

Aissa.

P.S. Excuse any typos, not slept well recently due to a persistent cold, and haven't spell checked due to terminal laziness!

Responses To The North/South Circular Challenge

Had a nice load of responses to my and [info]luciddestiny's plan to drive 49 miles through London on a pre-Christmas Saturday at an average speed of over sixteen miles per hour! They include:

From [info]yojimbouk:

"You are insane."

And from [info]paultucker:

"Have you contacted the emergency services to inform them of this insane escapade?

Make sure you have survival equipment (plenty of music, padded steering wheel for when you hit your head on it repeatedly while stuck in traffic).

How long after you set off do we call for the search and rescue?"

And from [info]bog_boy:

"Would there be enough places to stop for a wee wee though?"

I must admit, the last one is worrying me slightly.

Sleep with your head against the sky tonight.
I can't count how many times you have made me cry.
I marvel at the way your hair glows in the light.

There's one who cares for me today.

I've watched you grow up child, you have made me proud.
I love the way your hand fits so nicely in mine.
I always screw up, I wonder how you sing to me.

There's one who cares for me today.

Why are americans so keen on their leaders having served in the military? What's so glorious about war? What essential skills does it teach you?

Photobucket

It would appear I have run out of reasons (and money) to visit Canada
this year. After a surprise visit to Ontario earlier this month, and
now my annual Vancouver Labour Day visit, I have returned to the last
few weeks in my cubicle at I Love My Job Inc.
Whilst in Canada, I took a bunch of photos. I'll resize and upload
them soon, as I only had the patience for that one today. As I'm
sifting through the photos, I've noticed that I didn't take any photos
of people. I got to meet up with some friends and relatives - all of
it eluded film. I'd like to blame Labatt's, delicious Canadian Lager,
for that, as I did have a few (and now that I am at my desk again,
would like some more).
Anyhow, I'll upload those photos soon. And no, it won't be like that
last time where I promised to update with more content soon - I'll
actually do it. I swear.

People talk a lot about women 'shattering the glass ceiling'. As though one single event will occur and then all will be equal.

Chip away at the glass ceiling.

Does anyone know a blog that's easy to embed in a webpage? (by easy, I mean without knowledge of css etc.) I've wanted to do a photo journal for quite a while, but only if I can insert it into my website. (I think you have to have a paid account with LJ to embed it)

and while we were talking about gender...

The Blogalyser reveals...

Your blog/web page text has an overall readability index of 13.

This suggests that your writing style is conventional (to communicate well you should aim for a figure between 10 and 20).
Your blog has 20 sentences per entry, which suggests your general message is distinguished by verbosity (writing for the web should be concise).

CHARACTER MATRIX

male malefemale female
self oneselfgroupworld world
past pastpresentfuture future

Your text shows characteristics which are 53% male and 47% female (for more information see the Gender Genie).
Looking at pronoun indicators, you write mainly about yourself, then the world in general and finally your social circle.
Also, your writing focuses primarily on the present, next the past and lastly the future.
Find out what your blogging style is like!

Most of this analysis falls into the category of "Well, duh". It's my livejournal, of course I write about myself. (I wonder if the Blogalyser recognises <lj user=blah> as writing about my social circle?). I write less about the world in general than I'd like to, but spoons often do not exist. As for my verbosity, well :P~

The male/female analysis based on key words is hilarious, though. Apparently, "the" and "a" are masculine keywords, whereas "and" is feminine. Uh...
