I've recently discovered the fine world of gears and steam power, and would like to dress appropriately. Are there any good shops for clothes, jewellery, etc in or around Brighton? (If not then somewhere easily accessible in London?) I'm cautious of buying online, as I have a rather strange set of measurements.

I have plans for a costume that puts the punk into steampunk, but need quite a few little locks to make it work.

I had no idea there was a Cornish Steam Jazz Band! How simply marvelllous. I live a short walk from Boscarne Junction so will probably walk up to see the 'skirmish'.
Nota Bene: I will happily ship to the UK; simply contact me with your location and I can let you know the shipping cost.
It can be difficult to find the old-fashioned sort of suspenders that button onto Victorian trousers. Professor Gravel, noted chronologist and adventurer, recommends the following anachronistic accessory.

These button-end suspenders have a charming clockwork pattern against a burgundy background. Accented with brown recycled leather and brass findings. Adjustable. See other photos here. Peruse more Theriaca Fina creations here.

I am preparing a steampunk outfit and wondered what kind of make-up is acceptable as steampunk? Are there any particular styles that would fit or perhaps as little make-up as possible? I also wondered if nail varnish would fit a steampunk theme and if there were any particular colours that it would be good to use? My outfit is based around black, white and pinstripe.
Thanks x
Having been a bit of a steampunk fan for a while, I'm contemplating a trip to a Victorian Steampunk themed night at a club in a couple of months, and I have simply nothing to wear.
Where does one go for blouses and skirts that are suitable, or easily made suitable, without spending a fortune? Ebay is being unhelpful, as anything I like is invariably the wrong size.
This isn't helped by not knowing quite what I want, but I'll know it when I see it.
Also, how does one accessorise to make the outfit steampunk rather than just victorian? Goggles are out unless they look like they'd work with my glasses.
Also, again, how does one go back to speaking normally? 8-)

"I was making adjustments to an automaton of a conjurer who could make shadow puppets by way of adjustments to levers secreted beneath his robes when I made a discovery that could retrieve my lost abilities..."
"Playing idly with this gadget made me wonder and so roughly with more hope than sense I strapped the device to the remnants of my left hand and pulled the levers on the back of the statue. To my greatest joy my hand straightened, I pulled another and my hand closed. I shouted with unrestrained joy and set to work on the contraption that was forming before me."

Also I will be hosting a steampunk meet up at next weeks Whitby goth Weekend. The meet will take place at Sherlocks cafe (A delightful cafe decorated to resemble 221B Baker Street just along the mian road from the elsinore and little angel) at 4 o'clock on Saturday the 26th of April. I hope to see as many of you there as possible. If you will be attending, please leave a comment as it would be nice to get some idea of numbers.

so many people have stopped me and admired what I was wearing. It is great for a casual day look. One person actually stopped me and told me how steampunk I looked, not knowing that I knew of the genre he was talking about...
I would love it to go to a great home for more wear......

The weather is changing, my friends, but here in the Theriaca Fina laboratory we strive to control the elements of time, weather and temperature with shelves filled with various compasses, dials, and gauges. Might I introduce the Key to the Weather, my latest creation?

By tinkering late into the nights by gaslight, our dear Professor Gravel has mastered the very weather itself. Here is his barometer set, featuring gauges for barometric pressure, temperature, and relative humidity. The barometer has a jeweled wand. The set is bound in brown recycled leather and adorned with brass and silver gears and a brass ring. A Victorian ribbon holds the Clavis Solis (fair-weather key). See other photos. Measures 23 cm long, 12 cm wide, 3.5 cm thick. Key is 6 cm long.

Specifically, I'm shooting for artwork to submit to two roleplaying games, Unhallowed Metropolis and Victoriana. Work would be TFCD which would mean you get copies of the original shots to do with as you please. If any of the artwork is accepted, then there will probably also be credits and thanks in the book the artwork is printed in.
Samples of my photography can be found on my LJ, the Unhallowed Metropolis site, and my Deviant Art website.
Contact information can be found in my LJ profile and I'll gladly answer questions.
It's finally up! It took me ages to work it out, but it's now done! Please go along and see, and let me know if you run into any problems that I can fix :)

I've made a group on flickr for just steampunk clothing, costumes and daily wear. So focussing exclusively on the garments.
I thought it would be a fun group to have around and I hope many people join Steampunk fashion.
I'm posting about it here too because I know a lot of people have flickr :)
