[info]ldyxlayzee: I'm looking for a subleaser for Fall 2009

Hello wonderful people! I need your help!

I am planning to study abroad this Fall quarter, so I won't be here. Due to special circumstances, the girl that agreed to be my subleaser can't anymore. Therefore, I am currently looking for a FEMALE subleaser to take over my spot for this Fall quarter 2009. The room is a double, but the room is very big (12.6' x 13.10')  and my roommate is very easy to live with. The room is already furnished with a bed and desk, but these can be removed if you would like. Rent is $440 each month (September - December) + about $15 for internet and utilities. Since December is a short month with the quarter ending sometime during the middle of the month, I am willing to pay half of that month's rent to accommodate you.

The apartment is on Lebon Drive, so it's really close to the UCSD campus. It's walking distance to 2 shuttles stops: Nobel and Arriba and near the city shuttle stops as well.

If any questions, please don't hesitate to email me at plasticplushie@gmail.com.

[info]thehaloeffect: To Upcoming Graduates

I graduated in spring quarter and forgot to return my graduation gown, haha. If anyone is interested, you can have the gown and cap for free. That'd save you about $40. The gown is for anyone that's around 5'5 and the cap is one size fits all.

If you want it, leave a comment with an email and we can arrange a time for you to pick up. Have a great summer, yay you're almost done!

[info]gingaling:

Quick question. I've been out of school for 6 quarters dealing with personal craziness and am contemplating finishing my degree at UCSD this coming school year. Does anyone know what the readmissions process is like? I've already submitted the application and the transcripts from attended school. I spent one year at a CSU and don't but I don't think I should stay because there are rumblings that lecturers will be laid off and the courses available to me are at risk of being cut.

What would jeopardize my readmission?

[info]merrygolds: Freshman Fall Quater Schedule

Hi Tritons! I'm an incoming freshman at Muir and I'm super excited for my first quarter at UCSD! My planned major is Molecular Biology with a possible double-major/minor in History or Poli Sci. My career goal is to become a medical researcher. Here is my tentative schedule:

Math 20C
Muir 40
Chem 6A
TDGE 25 (Public Speaking)
Wildlife Conservation (Freshman Seminar)

Is this schedule too tough/easy? I have no college credit for any science course, so maybe I'm at a disadvantage? I want to be able to graduate on time, but I don't want to be overwhelmed my first year. If you've had these courses before, please share your experiences. (: Gracias!

[info]lanikan: German Lit

I just received an e-mail from the lit department notifying me that the German lit series I need to take to fulfill major reqs is canceled. Not only that, they're not planning to offer it next year (2010-2011).

I took German for the last three quarters to qualify for the lit series, and now I'll have to take another foreign language so that I can take another lit course.

So I was just wondering if anybody else has received any notification of other abruptly canceled classes. I would guess that it's probably an effect of the budget cuts or maybe something came up with the professor who was supposed to teach the class.

[info]staying__gold: has anyone had a provost's honors certificate mailed to them?

I'm applying to PharmCAS right now and one section asks to list any honors I might have. The only thing I can think of is that I've had Provost's Honors every quarter, but I wasn't sure if that really counted because I only see it on my transcript. I searched online and found this:

Each quarter, students who achieve Provost's Honors (3.5 GPA or higher with at least twelve graded units) receive a special recognition certificate and honors is posted to the transcript. Upon achieving Provost Honors for all three quarters in the same academic year a special recognition certificate will be mailed to the permanent address listed. The college also sponsors an annual student/faculty honors banquet to recognize the top two hundred students in the college. Capstone Senior Honors Seminars are also available.

I've never received a certificate and have never heard of that... does anyone know anything about this? Thanks!

[info]vanagan: contesting a grade.

Has anyone ever contested their grades before? I know the appeals process for grades at UCSD only states that you can appeal a grade if you feel it was given based on non-academic criteria (race, gender, etc). but idk... one of my classes' final exam was an online one based on material that the professor never ever lectured on. My grade for the online final compared to the rest of the course work is drastically lower. Our lectures were once a week for three hours each - yet the prof. used the last two lectures to talk about a project we had to do as well. Is this kind of thing contestable? or should I just move on and live with it?

Hi I was wondering if anyone knew which Stafford Loan Lender would be best.
Here is the order they have it:
#1 Discover Student Loans(Discover Bank)
www.discoverstudentloans.com
#2 Nelnet Academic Loan
www.nelnet.com
#3 National Education
www.nationaled.net
#4 Access Group
www.accessgroup.org
#5 EdAmerica
www.edamerica.net

If no one actually knows which would be best for this years Stafford Loan Lender, does anyone happen to know which rates were the lowest?

Thanks!

[info]pjammer: UCSD Anonymous Confessions - Act IV

So.

For the fourth year in a row and in the spirit of PostSecret (and following the lead of the [info]ucla and [info]oberlin communities), it's ANONYMOUS CONFESSION time for UCSD.

Inspiration:

UCLA's 1000+ comment thread

Oberlin's giant-ass confession thread

UCSD Anon Confession thread from last year

Post a secret, a crush, a confession ... anything goes.

Anon comments are enabled.

Also - I've turned off new UCSD posts and put everything into a moderation queue ... this will be the most recent post on the [info]ucsd page for the next 96 hours and then we will resume normal postings.

Have fun. And play nice.

Or not nice, whatever.

Just don't go making death threats or whatnot.

NOTE 1: link to facebook of the anonymous confession community.

Post suggestions, idle threats, personal insults to me there. Whoohoo.

NOTE 2: Highlights of notable threads from original anon confessions post.

EDIT 3: Original 1800+ comment anon confessions post.

Saturday morning, regular posts on [info]ucsd will resume (though this thread will remain active so long as you kids behave).

Is anyone here taking Chinese Popular Religion with Professor Jordan?

I've finished most of the take-home final but am still ill at ease with some of the answers...since most of them seem like they could one way or the other.

I would love to confer with someone online via aim or in person. Anyone??

(Btw, it's not illegal for me to ask bc the professor himself said he couldn't possiby stop us from conferring with each other if we did)

[info]sky_is_falling: girl who got her laptop stolen on the 6th floor in geisel

So I'm in Geisel studying for finals and in the bathroom stalls there's a flyer saying that someone stole this girls Sony Vaio laptop. She said it's old and crappy and makes it sound like whoever stole it looks like they know its not gonna really sell, but it's got a bunch of really valuable pictures on it (like most of ours do) plus she's a 4th year grad student, so she' s prolly got a bunch of work on there too. I know how bad it is to have a computer reformatted and to lose everything. Its your life ya know. Anyways she said to give it to a friend, or return it yourself, no questions asked, or to drop it off in the first floor of the Communications Department MCC. She put a phone number (619) 929-4320 and an email address dDowningw@gmail.com.

I don't know here at all, but figured since I haven't seen her post on here that it might be helpful to get the word out. Even if you don't believe in karma, it'd prolly make such a huge difference for her if you a) have it and give it back, b) know someone who suspicially has a new yet old looking Sony Vaio laptop and maybe see if they're being shady about it.

To the least I'm sure if you wanna sell the laptop/know who has it, I'm sure the things on it mean more to her than the laptop, and the person who took it prolly only cares about the laptop than the things on it, so at the least, maybe burn the things onto a disk and find a way to get them back to her. Then everyone kinda wins. I dunno, seeing flyers like that (or like the lost maltese dog that gets seizures and needs its medicine) always make me so sad and just hope hope hope that someone finds it/ returns it to them.

Just trying to do my little part in the big world.

[info]sky_is_falling: 21st birthday

What's a good thing to do in San Diego for your 21st? I want to do something fun, something I can't do while I'm under 21. Any good bars? (my boyfriend hates the concept of bars so I'd like to go to one that is kind of nice) also i might have some friends coming to visit that are under 21, are they any places that allow in 18+ and 21+ that are fun to go to?I want to be able to do something like buy a drink, but I'd like some of my younger friends to be able to be let in too. Shoot any kind of fun ideas my way, kept Disneyland because I can't get all of my friends to go there with me (though I am signed up for my free birthday =D ) Or maybe just fun stories of places you went on your 21st?

People should talk more in this group :) So I'll start, hi I'm Heidi :)

[info]sdskyline: below full time status WITH financial aid

I'm on financial aid right now, and I really want to/need to drop this class [yes, for a 'W'] but I'll be at 9 units if I drop it. Anyone have experience of having to deal with the Financial Aid Office if dropping below full-time student status [12 units]?

Thanks for the help in advance!

[info]adventurekidd: Hard Schedule?

I am slightly terrified of my classes next year.
I don't know if I will be able to juggle CHEM 140A (Ternansky/Whitesell), PHYS 1A (Douglas Smith), CHEM 6BL (Berniolles), and TDMV2 (Tonnie, Sammartano). I heard that 6BL is time consuming, and 140A is really hard. I also heard that PHYS 1A with Douglas Smith was really bad. I want to take Physics continuously, and he is the only teacher for Fall 09, so I'm stuck with him. :(

I am not sure if I should take Ternansky or Whitesell for Chem 140A.

CONS
  • Whitesell is at 8:00 am.
  • Ternansky is really hard.
  • Whitesell doesn't teach you crap.
  • Ratemyprofessor says Whitesell is really bad
PROS
  • Ternansky prepares you for the rest of O Chem.
  • Whitesell is easy?
  • Ratemyprofessor says Ternansky is really good.
  • Whitesell will help balance out the stress level
  • Ternansky's curve is really low
This is just stuff that I've heard from the people around me. I don't know if they are all true, I hope to get your guy's input. Thank youuu. :D My sign up time is tomorrow at 7:40 pm.
