Is anyone else having trouble updating their housing lottery application?

I keep trying to update my address, phone number and e-mail, but the system never saves any of my changes. I tried to update these things the moment the housing office asked me to do so, but I got a warning letter the other day which said that I hadn't. When I logged into the system to try to fix that, surprise, nothing had changed. The system says that it takes one business day to make changes, but I don't think it's ever worked for me, because it's still storing the address that I had before I transferred here.

If I call housing, will I actually get someone on the phone who will help me? I don't think I can appear in person to fix this, because the deadline is Tuesday at 5:00pm and I have class in the morning and work all day right after that.

question about LA landlord-tenant law

Are you guys familiar with the LA landlord-tenant laws? And more specifically, the rent control laws? They state, among other things, that if someone renews a lease, they are not subject to a rent increase higher than 4%, and that someone is entitled to interest on their security deposit payable yearly. However, all rent protection laws are invalid for property built after 1978.

My question is, how can I find out when exactly my building was built? I live south of Wilshire on Ashton. I want to ask my landlord for the information, but he's being really shady and rude and I'm afraid that any attempt for me to further negotiate with him (he recently proposed an absurd rent increase on the grounds that we are beyond maximum occupancy, when he had clearly stated that we were at maximum occupancy last year) will result in my rent being quadrupled for next year.

"sponsoring" a child

I know this isn't the proper forum for this, but...

I just got back from a backpacking trip and it's motivated to do more internationally, so I'm starting small by "sponsoring" a child. Has anyone done this before? Do you have any recommendations for organizations with very low administrative overhead? (i.e. not the big fancy ones that advertise on TV) I'd prefer South America just so the child wouldn't have to write me in English if they didn't want to, or even Africa since I'll probably be traveling through there in the next year or two, but obviously the most effective organization is a priority. Thanks!

If you are interested
in the individual components, feel free to contact me regarding those as well.
Please respond to this post or contact me directly with any questions.

Thanks and Go Bruins!

I've got a pretty OT question to ask, but I figure this is as good a place as any to try.

I'm hunting down new car insurance with my dad, since the current policy we're stuck with is pretty ridiculously expensive. Anyway, on with the burning question: I was wondering if any of you know exactly how much extensive researching goes into handing out a "good student" discount?

I'm not a full-time student since I've found a pretty nice job that's taking care of bigger needs, at the moment, but I'm aware that you have to be a full-time student to get the discount in your policy.

Any suggestions?

Car washing

Hi! I was wondering if anyone can tell me about any places in Westwood where I can go wash my own car? Are there any gas stations, etc. where they have a hose and an area for this? I'd prefer not to go to a regular car wash just because I like doing it myself, but I happen to live in an apartment complex with a tiny gated parking structure where there is no room for me to wash my car inside. Thanks so much! :)

Weekend salsa?

Live super close to campus!!

I am looking for a female roommate ASAP to share a room with me in a 2bdrm/2bath place!!!
The place is on Hilgard and it is really close to campus (south campus is only 10 minutes away!!)
It is also one block away from major Westwood restaurants and Ralphs.

The apartment itself is really clean and in a secured building. We have a huge wraparound balcony. Most of the tenants are older people or grad students so it tends to be quiet. There is laundry on-site and a bbq grill and lounge chairs on the roof.

You would be sharing the room and the bathroom with me. I am a Public Health grad student and I am generally pretty nice, easy-going, and responsible. The other room only has one girl living there. For sharing the room, the rent is $635/month. Utilities come out to be around $30-40 per person per month. The new lease begins August 1st so you would have to pay the first month's rent plus a security deposit. But, you can move in whenever.
If you want, you can also sublet the place for session C.

Email me at gnupur@gmail.com if you or you have friends who are interested. Thanks!!!
