| Language Software |
[Jul. 12th, 2009|07:53 pm] |
Can anyone recommend a language software thats inexpensive? Rosetta Stone is more than my budget can afford but I have heard such great reviews about it. Does anyone know of a less expensive software thats close to Rosetta Stones reputation? If it helps the language I need to learn is French.
Thanks! |

| internship course credit |
[Jul. 9th, 2009|10:24 pm] |
Hey guys,
Does anyone know if there are internship courses (through CCL) that begin during session C? I realize the timing would be strange but I am interested in an internship that requires credit, and the deadline to add an internship course was last week.
Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks. :) |

I'm thinking about commuting in the Fall and I was looking into applying for a Student Parking Pass and I was reading about the parking permit audit. It sounds like a REALLY SCARY process, has anyone out there ever been through a parking permit audit and is willing to share their experience?
I'm not worried about gettting caught lying because I really will be commuting all the way from Whittier to UCLA but the website makes the audit seem HORRIFIC... heehee
Thanks! |

| Question? |
[Jun. 20th, 2009|10:22 pm] |
Hi there,
I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but if someone could please help me out I'd greatly appreciate it! I was wondering if UCLA has some sort of psychology lab or some such where they pay participants to answer questions and participate in their experiments? My friend up north at UCB gets paid like $15 an hour to answer money-making decision questions in something called X-Lab up there and I was wondering if UCLA had something similar going on. It would be great to make a little extra cash this economic downturn lol...
Again, apologies if this has been asked and answered before, I'm afraid I'm new here! Thanks so much!

| Polynesian Luau |
[Jun. 16th, 2009|07:55 pm] |
June 27th is the South Seas Polynesian Luau at Gemini Manor
This year all new and mostly new guests will have the opportunity to be taken on a Gemini Manor tour given by a Polynesian beauty.
If this will be your first time to visit Gemini Manor make sure to get there early because the tour is at 8:30pm sharp and there will be no repeated tours. The event starts to really swing by 9pm and touring to show off each of the rooms is too difficult after 9pm.
NOTE: if the request for tours (prior to the event) is high I may schedule a earlier tour.
Saturday June 27th Gemini Manor will hold its annual Polynesian South Seas Luau.
Tickets include:- Free valet parking
- An all-you-can eat buffet
- Open (non alcoholic*) bar
- Buffet
- Polynesian dancers
- Fire Performers
- An evening filled with song and dance.
*Due to licensing Gemini Manor cannot provide alcohol. Guests are encouraged to bring their own alcoholic beverages. However, Gemini Manor rarely runs short on alcoholic beverage gifts.
Buy your tickets by June 25th and tickets are only $12. At the door $15 -- Event entrance without a ticket is not guaranteed
PayPal: GeminiManor@Live.com - I’m sending the tickets USPS & putting names on the Will Call list
Money order or check can be sent to Gemini Manor
At the door the price is strictly $15
For New Members Specials check out my LJ entry on the party.

Feel free to express your own opinion.
( blah blah blah )
I'm graduating this year and frankly, I'd much rather hear from Kareem Abdul Jabar than this Linkin Park shithead. That band sucks and I don't care if that guy holds the world record for highest IQ. His band fucking sucks and every time one of their songs comes on the radio, I want to ram a jackhammer into my ear.
I suppose we could have done worse, like turning it over to the egomaniacs who run our student government (I probably would've told my parents to cancel their plans to attend if that had happened), but that's really not saying much. I still can't believe those Bruins United dickwads thought it was a good idea to come to my door. Freshmen and transfer students, consider investing in claymore mines in addition to your texts next spring quarter. Bruins United must be destroyed, because they're fucking annoying. |

| SUBLET MY ROOM PLOX |
[Jun. 8th, 2009|09:12 am] |
I have my own room in Jefferson Court (433 Midvale) for $950 a month. My roommate was an international student and he bailed on me several months ago, so I've had my own room ever since. The same thing happened two times to the guy in the room next to me, who has also been living in his own room for a while. And the guy in the last bedroom will be living by himself as well by the end of the month. Basically, if you move in here, you'll be living with two other guys who will have their own rooms (and bathrooms) for at least the rest of the summer.
Basically, I'm looking for one (for $950 per month) or two (for $425 each) males or females to take my spot until mid-September. (The place is fully furnished and you'll also have your own bathroom (as well as two closets.)
My housemates are quiet, clean, introverted guys. One is majoring in some geoscientific shit that I can't even begin to understand, and another is a Ph.D student in Math from Turkey. I'm seeking the same type of guy(s) or girl(s) to take my place. They've been by far the greatest roommates I've had in college and I would hate to rock their boat one bit. (I'm graduating on Friday.)
Comment here or e-mail me at gabriel.butler@gmail.com if you're interested. |

| Linkin Park's Brad Delson to keynote UCLA commencement |

Guitarist, UCLA alum replaces previously scheduled speaker James FrancoBy Office of Media Relations | 6/5/2009 5:26:18 PM
Brad Delson, a UCLA alumnus and lead guitarist for the Grammy-winning band Linkin Park, will deliver keynote remarks at the UCLA College of Letters and Science commencement ceremony on June 12, campus officials announced today. Delson earned a bachelor's degree in communication studies from UCLA, graduating summa cum laude in 1999. His band Linkin Park was signed by Warner Bros. Records in 2000 and has released three albums that have sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. The group's unique blend of alternative rock, hip-hop and electronic music has earned them critical praise, numerous industry honors, Grammy awards and an international audience of millions of devoted fans. Delson and his bandmates are devoted to several social causes. Linkin Park established a nonprofit organization called Music for Relief to aid victims of world catastrophes and combat global warming. Since its establishment, the organization has raised nearly $3 million, helping victims of the South Asian tsunami, Hurricane Katrina and the recent Southern California wildfires. Delson and his wife established the Delson Scholarship Fund at UCLA, which annually awards four-year scholarships to extraordinary students from Huntington Park, Calif. "Brad Delson is not only an innovative musician, but he is also a social activist who is committed to change through education," said Judith L. Smith, dean and vice provost for undergraduate education in the UCLA College of Letters and Science. "I am thrilled that Brad will be helping to commemorate this important occasion in the lives of our graduates and their families, and we are grateful that he has agreed to do so on short notice." The ceremony, which will take place in Pauley Pavilion, is the primary commencement event for UCLA's graduating seniors. Delson was picked based on recommendations from a selection committee after the scheduled keynote speaker, actor and UCLA alumnus James Franco, canceled the week prior to the event because of filming commitments. In a prepared statement provided to UCLA, Franco said: "I deeply regret not being able to keep my commitment to giving the commencement speech at UCLA's graduation this year. Unfortunately the date conflicts with me needing to be on location to begin pre-production on my next film. I wish everyone in the 2009 class the best of luck in all of their future endeavors." UCLA is California's largest university, with an enrollment of nearly 38,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The UCLA College of Letters and Science and the university's 11 professional schools feature renowned faculty and offer more than 323 degree programs and majors. UCLA is a national and international leader in the breadth and quality of its academic, research, health care, cultural, continuing education and athletic programs. Four alumni and five faculty have been awarded the Nobel Prize.

| [ | mood |
| | drained | ] | S ince James Franco is gone, let's welcome the latest Angeleno and newest Tonight Show host, Conan O'Brien!
http://dailybruin.ucla.edu/stories/2009/jun/3/franco-cancels-commencement-keynote/
Conan gives amazing speeches as seen here... http://www.february-7.com/features/conan.htm
Five reasons Conan should speak 1. He is ridiculously smart graduating magna cum laude from Harvard. 2.Very funny having been president of National Lampoon and a writer for the Simpsons, back when it was funny. 3. He lives right there in Brentwood. 4. What better way to welcome the latest host of The Tonight Show than to have him speak for the greatest school in Los Angeles. 5. He is a real person and has worked his way up, not taking the usual path expected.
If we get enough people wanting him, he has to come. PLEASE CONAN COME TO UCLA!!!!
