| | KMFDM | ] | 2:29 AM 7/9/09 · I just finished watching a film called Bled, a vampire flick with an interesting spin. That's not really important to this, if you're at all curious just follow the link, as I'm more curious about something else. The film vaguely follows Dracula type scenario but in the special features there's a part on "creating incubus".
The understanding I had since I first read Dracula, roundabout when I was 8 years old, was that the vampires in the book were succubus. Incubus were actually a more sexual type vampire that weren't so much after blood but other bodily fluids.
Do the math.
In the years since I've heard numerous debates about this, as to what are and aren't succubus and how they differ from incubus.
Thoughts? |

8:24 PM 6/22/09 · Hands down, in the whole of the Star Trek universe, my favorite alien species (if that's even appropriate given who They are) is the Borg. They are unrelenting, They are impossible to permanently stop (no matter what the last 2 episodes of Voyager may've implied) and They are quite frankly the most impressive thing I've come across in the series since the first time I worked out how to turn the TV on when I was like 2 years old...
...least until some mad genius decides to hybridize tribbles and pirahna!
What's your favorite alien species from Star Trek?
Last big question I asked regarding the fandom focussed on Enterprise. A lot of people, more than I thought, actually loved that show...which made me feel a little bit less alone. One thing fairly common among the lot of them was a dislike of the whole story arc involving the Xindi and I'd like to ask specifics; most of what I got on that was vague.
Don't know if it was a big deal with me, I liked the whole bit fine.
What specifically didn't you like about the whole storyline involving the Xindi? |

| cyberpunk show with 3d printerbot |
[Jun. 18th, 2009|10:44 pm] |
Hello!
First, I want to bring up 3D-printers. This small building was made with a 3D-printer bot. I think it's neat! The guy who built the 3D printer bot is going to use it to print something for my cyberpunk music shows next week in NYC. Other robots may also be in attendance.
What is this show, you ask? It is the music of Psyche Corporation, a fairytale darkwave cyberpunk band named after a custom dream-manufacture company from the future. In this future, neural/bluetooth type implants allow people to download dreams from the Psi-Net, or upload themselves to special-reality servers. It's fun like that. Because of this history (future?), the Psyche Corp. band of this century has a mission to incorporate performances with dreamscape or cyberpunk-related artworks or inventions from local artists. If you're in NYC next week, you should come see us!

| A "concensual hallucination" |
[Jun. 15th, 2009|11:15 pm] |
The last time I cracked open "The Cybercultures Reader," I remembered to highlight a few passages because I knew it was only a matter of time before I'd revisit digital technology again. Now in case you're not too keen on the subject, I encourage you to give this article a chance, anyway. Beneath the cold, steely, mechanical, cybercultural exterior, my main goal in writing is to encourage you to practice unconventional thinking and the exploration of controversial issues. I'd rather ask questions than answer them. The answers, I leave in your hands. Read on.
A "consensual hallucination" is a phrase that belongs to William Gibson. Before we explore this concept by way of Popperian cosmology, think about it in terms of cyberspace and the collective experience we all share online. Karl Popper's theory is a good foundation for this topic because it dissects reality into three states. The tangible world of the physical exists alongside the chimerical world of thought, and most importantly, they interact.
The constructs that make up our online identity are perhaps the realest of all intangible concepts. "Hallucination" refers to our ability to portray ourselves to others online with such a high level of control, some question its authenticity. Every aspect of our personality can now be summed up by an online biography and the photos we choose to display. "Consensual" refers to the exponential growth of acceptance among internet users to adopt these mediums as a standard for self-identification. Nearly every member of Facebook or Myspace is well-versed in the subtleties of social networking terrorism. Anything from a status update to a tagged photo can be utilized for self-expression or as a means to incite a particular reaction. So have we truly adopted a better, more advanced way to establish our presence, or have we merely learned another language? Is authenticity important anymore?

| Duncan Jones (a.k.a. Zowie Bowie) Talks About His NASA Experience And His New Movie Moon |
[Jun. 11th, 2009|10:59 am] |

Ground control to Major Tom, Duncan Jones (aka Zowie Bowie) talks about his amazing new movie called Moon, which was screened recently for NASA -- at their request. Mining Helium-3 of the dark side of the moon might sound far-fetched, but it's actually something NASA's working on. Just watch this film before you volunteer for the low-gravity mining job though, since all might not be as it seems.....
When asked about the NASA screening in an exclusive interview, Duncan told SuicideGirls:
"We did a screening at the NASA Space Center in Houston and the beauty of it was that it wasn't a PR stunt, we didn't organize it. There's a professor at the Space Center who does a lecture series and he asked me if I wanted to show the film. He'd been reading online that we'd done this film about Helium-3 mining and that's something that people at NASA are working on. We went down there and we did the screening, it was a fantastic experience, and we did a Q&A afterward. They asked me why the base looked so sturdy, like a bunker, and not like the kind of stuff they are designing that they are going to transport with them. I said "Well, in the future I assume you won't want to continue carrying everything with you, you'll want to use the resources on the moon to build things" and a woman in the audience raised her hand and said, "I'm actually working on something called Mooncrete, which is concrete that mixes lunar regolith and ice water from the moon's polar caps." So, it was great - they basically started talking amongst each other and I just sat back and watched them. It was truly an amazing experience."
The full interview can be found HERE.
