Library returns
I'm just wondering if anyone's ever had a problem with returns. There's a book I returned at Koerner on Wednesday, but under my account online, it says I still have that book on loan. I don't think it should take this long for them to run the book back into their system, since I returned a few other items that same time, and they've been returned with no problem.

Has anyone else had this happen? And if so, what would be the best way to go about it? It's my words against their's, I know.

Thanks for any help!

ETA: Problem fixed, thanks for the help.

I have not had problems.

I'd stop by and check if it does not clear up.

Also, remember what time of year it is. Massive check out/return season, for papers and exams.

Hope it gets sorted out.

That's a good point, and thanks!

As someone who used to work in circulation in a library (now just about to graduate from the UBC library school), I can tell you this kind of thing is more or less impossible to completely eliminate. It's very unlikely they haven't got to it yet, much more probable that it slipped through without a scan. Go and talk to them; find the book on the shelf if you can.

I was pretty surprised to have to this happen, too. It's the first time, so I'm definitely gonna go talk to them ASAP. Thanks for the advice.

Oh, and if you can't find it, keep renewing it to avoid fines until it turns up.

I thought about doing that as well. But I found the book on the shelf and they've fixed the problem. Thanks a lot for your help!

Always return your book in person

I had that happen once... they shelved it without checking it back in. I didn't notice until I had over $150 in late fees. I had to appeal, and they were assholes about it even though it was their fault.

Go find the book on the shelf and have them scan it back in. In front of you.

I ususally check the day after to make sure it's been gone through, and just now, finding the book and watching them scan it in is exactly what I did.

$150 in fees? I hope that wasn't around exam time. Like students need any more reason to panick and stress, hey?

It was in the middle of term, thank goodness. I was more pissed off when they phoned me after my appeal and said "if it happens again, you'll have to pay." WTF? They fucked up... and they refused to admit they were wrong.
