17 марта 2009 года в эфире BBC Radio 1 была представлена первая песня с нового альбома под названием «Battle for the Sun». 20 апреля на Radio 1 состоялась премьера нового сингла Placebo. Песня «For What It’s Worth» станет первым синглом с нового альбома «Battle For The Sun», в отличие от уже доступного для свободного скачивания титульного трека, который в официальную дискографию Placebo не войдет. Также на эту песню снят видеоклип.

«Battle For The Sun» будет более тяжелым, чем его предшественник, «Meds»: группа попыталась вернуться к более раннему саунду времен «Without You I’m Nothing», хотя обилие струнных аранжировок сделает «Battle For The Sun» в какой-то степени экспериментальным.

«Мы очень гордимся новым альбомом.», — говорит Брайан Молко. Кроме того, по словам фронтмена Placebo, будет самым концептуальным альбомом группы: «Наши предыдущие записи были всего лишь наборами песен. В этом же альбоме слова песен объединены общей тематикой».
