ISO grassy metro parks for an event
The Twin Cities Guinea Pig Rescue is on the hunt for a grassy park in the metro to host the 9th Annual Minnesota Pignic. The grass has to be chemical free as dozens of hungry guinea pigs will be snacking on and simultaneously fertilizing it.

Low rental cost or free parks would be ideal.

Thanks!

We don't have a date yet, but it's generally on a weekend in early June.

That does sound cute! What a fun idea!

Because the health of these pigs is involved, it sounds like you'd need to be absolutely sure about how the grass has been treated. I suggest calling the Parks & Rec Dept of all the cities you are considering and getting the details about their lawn treatment practices. Of course, their Web sites would give you details of rental fees.

I know of lots of pretty, grassy parks but have no idea of the way the grass is treated in them.

Have a fun pignic!

Newell Park in Midway has TONS of grassy space (and beautiful oak trees for shade), and I don't think it's treated with any chemicals. The St. Paul Parks Dept. would probably be able to tell you. Newell is just off Pierce Butler Rte. and Snelling, near Midway Stadium and Hamline University.

Holy cow. I sure hope you can post the date for this event, because I want to be there. We lost our dear guinea pig, General Haig, because we stupidly put a branch from our Christmas tree in her cage. Obviously, it had been treated with chemicals and she died. Very sad.

Those of us who work every Saturday are begging you to make it a Sunday event.

Hey, I'm in a rural town now, so I can't recommend a park in the Cities, but I wanted to tell you about a pilot program here. Some of the schools are forgoing the traditional chemical treatments and are spreading CORNMEAL on the grass to cut down on the dandelion growth. And to all appearances, it's working! So check that out and you may find a park or school in the Cities that's taking part in this program. :)

Have you checked out Battle Creek Park in the East Metro? It's huge and I'm pretty sure it's all natural.
