| Halloween costumes/80s clothes? |
[25 Oct 2006|03:57am] |
I'm going to an 80s-themed Halloween party this weekend...but I don't have ANYthing 80s-ish. Does anyone have any 80s outfits/clothes (for a girl, mediumish-size) that you want to get rid of/sell for cheap (or even just lend me--I'm neat & very very rarely spill)? e-mail: dkmxfka (at)hotmail.com
Seriously, all I have are semi-80s-ish earrings, and that won't quite cut it! Thanks!

| I've been robbed - AGAIN |
[25 Oct 2006|08:17am] |
My car was broken into two months ago. Thanks to responses from my post here, I found an amazingly inexpensive auto glass place (yay). However, this morning I go to my car (underground parking) and it was broken into AGAIN. This time the window wasn't broken, but they really effed up my door lock/handle and stole the cheap-ass stereo I just purchased (read: less than $120).
My question this time - any recommendations where I can get my car door fixed? I'm not willing to pay much because my car is old and I'm getting a new one soon. But, I need to at least fix the handle so that it isn't jimmied upside down.
Bonus question: Even though my apartment complex says they don't cover theft, shouldn't they bear some responsibility if they don't have enough security. For goodness sake, I pay upwards of $1,000 a month to be safe and now I'm stuck in my place for almost another year on my lease.

This Friday, October 27th Trash Film Debauchery will be showing DEATH RACE 2000!
This movie is great. Basically, David Carradine runs around in a leather jumpsuit brooding, Sylvester Stallone is stressed out about everything, and every year violent role-playing psychopaths are placed behind the wheels of high performance killing machines and sent across the country. Their Goal? To finish alive with the most points from running down as many pedestrians as possible!! The point system goes as follows: * Male adult: 20 * Male teenager: 40 * Male infant/toddler: 70 * Female (any age): 10 point bonus * Senior citizen (regardless of gender): 100 And i may be wrong, but i'm pretty sure you get a bonus if you run down someone who is handicapped. What fun! Oh, and David Carradine's name is Frankenstein and there's a grenade built into his fake hand. It's all very funny. Plus there are boobs and if i remember correctly the pope gets run over so there's something for everybody. Bring the kids!
WHAT: DEATH RACE 2000
WHEN: Friday, October 27th at 9pm and again at 11pm
WHERE: The WEST BANK AUDITORIUM which is located in the lowest level of Willey Hall at the University of Minnesota - West Bank. ( Here is the exact address: )
HOW MUCH: FREE!!!!
 BRILLIANT

I need a winter jacket.
Has anyone been amazed at any thrift store's collection of winter jackets?
Anyone recommend any department stores for their selection?

| Speaking of coats... |

I'm a recent transplant...lived most of my life in Kansas and the past two years in Birmingham, AL. Consequently, I have no idea of what I need in a winter coat up here.
I've seen this amazingly cute wool swing coat at Urban Outfitters and by Kansas standards it'd be a perfect winter weight, but it's a little "spendy" (as they say) and I'm worried about putting out the dough and still ending up cold.
So what say you, Minnesotans? Is your standard wool-with-silky-liner coat good enough, or do I need to just suck it up and go buy a baby seal parka that makes me look like the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man?

| Vote No on Educational Levy |

VOTE NO
ON THE EDUCATIONAL LEVY ON NOVEMBER 7TH
I recently received a likely not cheap to produce piece of propaganda from District 622 about the upcoming educational funding referendums. District 622 wants to get its greedy hands on more of your hard earned cash.
I’m planning to vote against these referendums.
I wouldn’t be the first person to tell you that salaries for school district employees are way too high. In District 622, principals earn about $80,000 to $100,000 dollars a year for doing too little. Principals could easily live on half of that. Teachers earn as high as about $65,000 a year. I looked on the district website for the salaries of administrators, but I could not find any specific information. Why isn’t this information easily accessible? Administrative salaries are usually in or at least near the six figure range. This is way way way too high for doing too little. We need to slash these salaries.
Many of these high earning district employees don’t even live within the boundaries of District 622 like I and many other taxpayers do, thus higher taxes will only benefit them while hurting us!
When I worked for District 622, I attempted to be as useful as possible. I consistently attempted to make use of myself, but in my second year especially, my supervisors would not let me be used to my fullest capacity. For example, I once volunteered to help a special education student after school for math, but my offer was refused for legalistic reasons.
I volunteered to teach summer enrichment classes in Latin, self actualization, leadership, and others subjects for FREE and these classes required NO extra supplies at all, but the district denied the children this opportunity. Why should District 622 get more of your hard earned cash when it doesn’t even use the resources it has?
There are many more reasons why the school system does not need more of your hard earned dollars. I have written a book entitled 95 Theses Against the School System, which I offer in PDF format and on occasion in hardcover format, for FREE. So if you are interested, send me your email address.
Instead of this terrible school system, we need homeschooling and free schools (schools without mandatory curriculum and compulsory attendance). Long live homeschooling and free schools! May the current school system forever perish!
