Summer Voice Lessons
Greetings, all. I'm a classically-trained singer and am starting a private voice studio out of my home in Longfellow. If you or anyone you know is interested in long-term voice lessons, short-term lessons, or coachings at a reasonable rate, feel free to contact me. Visit lyricbaritone.org or my LJ for more info.

Even though I've lived here for almost 2 years, I'm only just starting to get established. Thanks for your help! I really appreciate this community -- I've still got so much to learn about the cities :-)

Curious: Do you take young students? (I'm talking say 9 year olds.)

Hi, there. Thanks for the interest.

I have taught children that age before and am open to it. I give a free 30 minute consult to anyone who is interested in lessons, so we could discuss this more then.

IMHO, before middle school, the only reason a child should be taking voice lessons is because they are already performing (choirs, solos, stage, etc.) and need some help that they can't get from their directors.

If the goal is to give the child a good musical foundation, then I think they would be better served by taking piano lessons or learning another instrument. Having worked with teens, I know that it is MUCH harder to learn musical fundamentals at that point, since they start getting into choirs and musicals and such, where it's rare for a director to make time to teach the fundamentals.

If the goal is just to allow the child to sing recreationally, there are TONS of childrens' choirs in the area, most of which are excellent and will give your child a basic, yet solid technique and ear.

If you're still interested in lessons, or know of anyone else who is, I'm more than happy to talk with you. Feel free to e-mail me -- lyricbaritone@yahoo.com

All the best!

Thank you! I appreciate your honest, professional response. My 9 year old has been taking piano for....going on five years (she's currently enrolled at MacPhaille). She is also in her school choir.

Honestly, I was only putting out "feelers" - since she is constantly singing and has an obvious love and instinct for music. But down the line - a few years from now - if she's still singing her heart out......

Again, thank you. And all the best to you, as well!
