11:44 am - Just a reminder

laurel
It's been well over a year since I posted a reminder here, so I figured it was past time I did.

I no longer update this journal with my TV Picks, you should add [info]rsstvpicksnet to your friends list if you haven't already and you want to read the picks on your friends page.

You might also be interested in following TV Picks on Twitter: twitter.com/tvpicks though I haven't been posting much there (yet).

My personal LJ is [info]laurel obviously, links to my contact info and other web/net stuff can be found at laurelkrahn.net.

TVPicks.net was featured in Entertainment Weekly's "Best of 2007" issue and also in a "best of Twin Cities web" list in Mpls St. Paul magazine. Nifty!

10:19 am - TV Picks Reminder

laurel
Remember, if you want to see the TV Picks on your f-list, you need to add [info]rsstvpicksnet to your list; this community has been obsolete and not updated for quite a few months now.

There are also other ways to subscribe to the picks or be notified when new picks are posted.

And yeah, my picks for Monday are now online at www.tvpicks.net. I'm back after a summer break.

11:14 am - best april fool's site IMHO

laurel
I am very proud to have been part of putting together this year's TeeVee April Fool's site. (I didn't contribute a lot, anything brilliant is probably the work of my fabulous co-conspirators. I've been a fan of the website since the beginning and I'm honored to have joined the ranks of the Vidiots during 2005).

You guys gotta check it out.

1:50 pm - another reminder

laurel
Just another reminder that if you want to continue to see the tv picks on your Livejournal friends page, you should add [info]rsstvpicksnet to your friends list.

I have posted picks for today, but they haven't gone across yet-- many days it seems to take hours for Livejournal's feed reader to notice I've updated which is kind of annoying. There is, sadly, nothing I can do about that.

If you are impatient and would like to receive notification or picks via email or to use a different system or feed reader to follow the picks, you should check out the available options at www.tvpicks.net/subscribe.

10:47 am - Laurel's TV Picks for Thursday

laurel
I have no idea why [info]rsstvpicksnet doesn't seem to notice the updates of the website until hours later. It's peculiar, because other feed readers notice that the page has updated right away.

If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this or who I should pester, let me know.

In the mean time, I'll tell you: picks for tonight are now up.

laurel
TV Picks are up at TVPicks.net.

If you want to read the full picks on your friends page, check out [info]rsstvpicksnet and add it to your friends list. Yesterday's update showed up late, but the problem should be fixed now and the picks should come across soon.

You should visit www.tvpicks.net/subscribe/ to see other ways you can get the picks.

I'll probably stop sending notices to this journal/community about updates to the picks soon.

12:49 pm - Reminder: Picks have moved

laurel
If you want to read my TV picks on your Livejournal friends page, you'll want to check out [info]rsstvpicksnet and add it to your friends list. [Picks for today are up at the website and should be showing up at [info]rsstvpicksnet soon.]

I'm not gonna be posting TV picks to this community any more (though maybe we can chat a bit about TV here, so if you're up for that, you can leave this community on your list).

Be warned that the full picks are what is syndicated, so you'll see the complete picks on your friends page. There are, of course, other ways to read the picks which are available.

I'll be posting a couple more reminders this week as I make this transition.

3:34 pm - Important Announcement (Really!)

laurel
Hey everybody,

For years now I've been manually adding my picks to this Livejournal community so people could read it here. Also manually updating a mailing list. Etc. etc. Etc. The existing RSS feed was fed by the Livejournal, believe it or not.

Well, with the upgrade to the website, I finally have feeds working for real. So you can now read TV Picks at [info]rsstvpicksnet and I recommend that you add that feed to your friends list.

This means that I will no longer be posting TV Picks to this community, you've gotta read them via the feed mentioned above.

We could keep this particular community around for discussion of TV and/or the picks, if any of you are interested. But to get the TV Picks on your friends page, check out [info]rsstvpicksnet. You might want to keep this community on your friends list for the next few days, in case I run into any trouble with the feed.

If you use an RSS/feed reader, you can also simply add the feed to that instead of viewing it on your friends page. And, of course, you can still read the picks on the website.

12:03 pm - Laurel's TV Picks for Friday

laurel
Best Bets:

New Bernie Mac Show (FOX, 7pm)
New In Justice (ABC, 8pm)
New Battlestar Galactica (Sci-Fi, 9pm and midnight)
New Monk (USA, 9pm and midnight)
Charles Grodin, Jordana Brewster on The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35pm)

News & Notes:

The Sci-Fi Channel begins airing reruns of John Doe tonight (Sci-Fi, 6pm) with the first episode of this series that only ran for one season on FOX. Dominic Purcell (of Prison Break) stars as a man who awakens to find that he doesn't know his own name nor recall anything about his life, but he seems to know everything else about the world, science, etc. He ends up trying to figure out what happened to him, while also helping the police with some cases. Jayne Brook (of Chicago Hope) plays a police lieutenant who works with him sometimes. John Marshall Jones, Sprague Grayden (of Joan of Arcadia, Over There), and William Forsythe also star. I liked the show, though I ended up missing several episodes-- will have to catch them on Sci-Fi. There was never any resolution, alas, to the mystery. Not a great show, I'd rank it as "above average with potential for more."

Still taking it easy on my right arm which means less typing and time spent online. Dangit! Very frustrating. May not do picks for Saturday, should be back with picks for Sunday or Monday.

Featured Pick:

Laurie Metcalf (of Roseanne) guest stars as a somewhat unstable woman who leads Adrian to believe he's married to her. Why would Adrian fall for this? Well, he ends up with amnesia in this episode and winds up in a strange small town (where a crime is commited, of course).

It's interesting seeing Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub) not know who he is and to see which aspects of him change and which stay the same. What does he remember? Meanwhile, his friends back in San Francisco are very worried as they don't know where he is nor what happened to him. A better episode that last week's new one, in my humble opinion.

This new episode titled "Mr. Monk Bumps His Head" debuts this weekend on USA (USA, 9pm and midnight tonight; 5pm Saturday; 11am Sunday).

Featured Pick:

Series premiere of Skating With Celebrities (FOX, 8pm). This episode airs at a special night and time; episodes will air regularly on Mondays at 7pm.

Scott Hamilton hosts this new entry in the "with celebrities" reality category. The pairs trained together for a month before their first routine before the judges in this episode. The pairs are judged on both technical merit and artistic by Dorothy Hamill, John Nicks, and Mark Lund. There are challenges for each pairing beyond the fact that one partner is an outstanding figure skater and the other . . . isn't.

I figured singer and broadway performer Deborah Gibson would be a good match for the theatrical skater Kurt Browning and I was right on that score. Of course, Browning is at an additional disadvantage because he's not a pairs skater and Ms. Gibson isn't a skater at all. I won't tell you how they (or anyone else) did on their first program in this episode because that's the real fun of these shows (well that and seeing training montages).

Olympic medalists Bruce Jenner and Tai Babilonia have known each other since the 1976 Olympics, which makes them the oldest pair on this show, but also means they've got great chemistry together (as they have been friends for a long time). Jenner is an athlete, but an older one with plenty of old injuries that could cause problems.

Actress Kristy Swanson and pairs skater Lloyd Eisler face another sort of problem: one of them is right-handed and the other is left-handed so this causes difficulty in planning their routines. Should Eisler try to switch his moves to do them the opposite way or should they just each go their own way?

Actor Todd Bridges (of Diff'rent Strokes) and pairs skater Jenni Meno seem to have a tough time with training. Bridges is an experienced roller skater, but soon learns that ice skating is quite a bit different. Meno finds that she has trouble matching Bridges' dance moves.

Skater John Zimmerman and Jillian Barberie (of NFL on FOX among other things) may disagree on how to approach the competition. Barberie wants to go all out and push the envelope of what they're ready for as a pair, but Zimmerman and their trainer and choreographer are less sure that's a good idea.

Actor/comedian Dave Coulier (of Full House) plays hockey a lot so he can surely skate, but skater Nancy Kerrigan is not so sure his skating style will work in the competition.

All in all, it's a fun show with some surprisingly entertaining skating routines. There will be seven episodes. Episodes will air regularly on Mondays at 7pm.
