Got wood? [08 Jul 2009|10:35am]

rabid_ferret
What i'm looking for:  leaves and wood from hardwood trees (preferably oak).  I don't need much, just a handful of leaves and a chunk or two of dead or decomposing wood.  Any hardwood tree will do, really.

So...anyone have a hardwood tree in their yard and wouldn't mind me filching some leaves and sticks?

Loving Persian to Good Home - Please [01 Jul 2009|06:18pm]

We have to move soon and just can not take this cat with us. She is an orange Persian. She is shy at first, but once she warms up is a loving companion. She isn't needy, though. She can be a little skiddish. She has all of her claws, but doesn't claw the furniture. She has only been kept as an indoor cat and she is not current on rabies shots. She has no health problems.

Anyone looking for or have room for a loving little princess? Please contact me on LJ.

See her behind the cut )

Graduate History Programs in Tulsa? [29 Jun 2009|01:25pm]

What graduate history programs are available in Tulsa? While TU is appealing on an intellectual level, I don't think it's going to be affordable. So far it appears that OS, OSU, Langston and NSU all leave Tulsa in the cold for History studies.

hopefully the return of a grocery store for n. tulsa [20 Jun 2009|07:34pm]

chimchim237
(Tulsa, OK) June, 2009 – TEDC has submitted a request to the City of Tulsa for $2,200,000 of unspent CDBG funds in order to provide financing for the purchase of the empty grocery store site [formerly Albertsons] located at 1601 North Peoria. The funds will be in the form of a loan to the prospective operator.  The loan must be repaid and the principal returned to the City of Tulsa.  TEDC will administer the loan as they do with their current CDBG allocation under the CDBG business loan fund.  This fund makes loans available to small companies that agree to hire low and moderate income Tulsans as mandated by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

For several months, TEDC has been working diligently with a prospective grocer interested in purchasing the site.  TEDC believes that its client is the most experienced and the best fit for this site.  The operator has been in the grocery business for more than 30 years and has successfully operated several stores in Oklahoma.

The Board of Directors at TEDC has underwritten, approved and submitted a formal request to the City of Tulsa to utilize CDBG funds for the project.  The proposal fully complies with HUD regulations for economic development projects.  Approximately 70 jobs will be created.

“We are excited to be part of the solution to a problem which so many have been trying to solve for so long,” said Casey Stowe, Chairman of the Board of TEDC.  “While I am under a very strict confidentiality agreement and can't reveal names, I can say that TEDC believes that our client is the most experienced and the best fit for this site,” says Stowe.  Casey Stowe is Vice President, Commercial Lending at ONB Bank & Trust and notes that several bankers as well as other highly experienced professionals from the area serve on the Board at TEDC.  “All of our Board Members at our last meeting were very excited about the project and voted unanimously to approve the request.”

“Over the past two years, I have worked closely with many residents and leaders who are totally dedicated to reenergizing the north community.  One constant theme has been the need for a grocery store at the old Albertson’s site. I’m proud that TEDC can play such an important role in this effort,” says Rose Washington Rentie, TEDC Executive Director.

City Council will need to act on the proposed change to the Consolidated Plan.  Within the next 30 days, the item will be on the Council's agenda and discussed/voted on at a Council meeting.  The change is subject to a public comment period.

The Tulsa Economic Development Corporation is a non-profit organization formed in 1979 to catalyze economic development. Public and private dollars are used to extend direct loans and to structure loan projects with local banks, and promising borrowers typically create employment opportunities for low to moderate income individuals, are located in distressed communities, and/or represent populations that traditionally face barriers to securing debt capital.

New marketing committee hosts free movie, music event downtown Wednesday [18 Jun 2009|03:56pm]

chimchim237

In an effort to utilize the amenities, services and businesses popping up in locations all over downtown Tulsa, the Tulsa Convention and Visitors Bureau, in association with downtown businesses, established a downtown marketing committee to create and promote opportunities for individuals to visit downtown after 5 p.m.

"There are so many exciting things occurring in downtown Tulsa, but those individuals who don't live and work here every day may not be aware of the transformation taking place," said Tom Green, director of downtown relations for the Convention and Visitors Bureau and committee chair. "This committee was established to help spur increased interest in downtown and create opportunities for people to take advantage of Tulsa's newest attraction - downtown."

And where current opportunities do not exist, the committee is creating them with events like the Downtown CineSeries, which kicks off Wednesday, June 24. Free and open to the public, the outdoor film and music event will take place on the Greens located on Third St. between the Crowne Plaza Tulsa Williams Center and the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. Food and adult beverages provided by Crowne Plaza will be available for purchase and live music performed by local artist Daniel Walcher will begin at 7:30 p.m. with the showing of Rumble Fish following at dusk.

Filmed in 1983 in Sapulpa, Okla., Rumble Fish was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and written by Tulsa?s own S.E. Hinton. The cast includes, Matt Dillon, Diane Lane, Nicolas Cage, Mickey Rourke, Tom Waits and Dennis Hopper. The film is the story of Rusty James an absent-minded street thug who struggles to live up to his legendary older brother's reputation and longs for the glory days of street gang warfare.

Attendees should bring blankets and lawn chairs.

The Downtown CineSeries is being helped in part by Circle Cinema, Indion Entertainment Group, Tulsa Lawyers for the Arts, Michael Sager First Street Lofts and FieldGuide Media.

The committee hopes the Downtown CineSeries will help increase the group's awareness to other downtown venues so more collaborative efforts can occur to better serve as a partner in the promotion of downtown activities.

"We really want the downtown community to share their events and activities with us so we can help them promote their businesses and disseminate information to a broader audience," said Green. "The goal being that increased activity in downtown Tulsa will in turn inspire confidence in the area's ability to support new businesses and residential areas helping to grow the area."

The goal of the downtown marketing committee is to position downtown Tulsa as an exciting, fun and safe place that is the cultural, entertainment and business center of the region. To learn more about the committee or to get involved, contact Tom Green, tomgreen@tulsachamber.com. To be added to the committee's distribution list providing regular updates about downtown events and activities, email sbrown@tulsadowntown.org or add Tulsa downtown to your social media networks:

Pharmacy recommendations? [17 Jun 2009|09:43am]

thisside
We originally started having our prescriptions filled at the Walgreen's at 31st and Harvard because it was close, and because it was 24 hours.

After the third incident of them losing my roommate's refill authorization from the doctor's office, and being generally unhelpful, we want to take our business elsewhere.

What has been your experience with Tulsa pharmacies, especially in Midtown? Any recommendations?

Shenanigans, Anyone? [16 Jun 2009|01:26pm]

[ mood | bored ]

Okay, so this is mostly just to gauge interest, but I've been watching a lot of stuff from Improv Everywhere lately, and I've been thinking it over. I really want to get an Urban Prankster group together. One of the major problems I'm going to have is that, to cause a scene, you really have to have more than one or two folks show up. I'll need a veritable posse of local T-Towners who can come out and help me make the city just a little more interesting.

I joined two Oklahoma-based groups on UrbanPrankster.com, but as of yet, they both look pretty dead. Hoping to get a bit of interest going there, but who even knows if anyone checks those anymore.

For the record, nothing illegal will be occurring, and almost all events will take place in a public park or something of that nature. If we stage anything in a store or other private place, the management will have been notified of what is going to happen...even if the employees and customers therein have not.

C'mon, guys, it'd be fun. I have a ton of ideas for local missions, but I know so little regarding networking and getting the ball rolling. If I started a Tulsa-based community here on LJ, how many of you would possibly join? Mailing lists are definitely a possibility, too. And if you just find it hilarious but don't want to participate, we could always use camera crew!

I know of at least four or five people that would likely be interested; I just need some motivation and confirmation that other people would want to actually do this. And for those of you who think it's stupid...that's fine. I'm bored, and there's so little to do. This, at least, might liven things up a little. c:

X-Posted from my own journal (as well as a couple communities). Laugh at me freely. Hell, I think it's funny, too.

The picnic has been underway since 11am and will go on till 11pm, the parade kicks off at 7:30pm fom Boulder and Brady and ends at the picnic at Centennial Park at 6th and Peoria. And for the first time there's a fireworks display at, I believe, 9:30pm.

If you would like to march in the parade you can meet up with everyone at Brady and Boulder, the intersection where the Brady Theatre and Club 209 is, at 7:00pm. I'll be there to March with H.O.P.E.!

There's a childrens play area with lots of fun things to do, so you can bring the little ones!

I know, I'm a bad homo for not posting this sooner but I've been busy. LOL And until I purchase a new computer, which will thankfully be next week, I'm stuck using my mom's dial-up. *shudder* You want to know how long it took me to load this page? Do you? Try boiling water, that should give you an idea. *headdesk*

Viola teacher wanted [26 May 2009|08:39am]

We are moving to a school district that does not have an orchestra and as a result, my son is in need of a viola teacher.  If anyone knows of someone they would recommend, please speak up.  Preferably as far north as possible as we are moving in that direction and I would prefer not to drive an hour for lessons.

Bunk Beds for Sale [20 May 2009|04:39pm]

angel_ent

I am selling a nice set of bunk beds for $50. As you can see the beds can either be set up as twin beds (as pictured) or stacked for bunk beds. The bunk beds include headboard, footboard, rails and mattress for both beds. The mattresses are in great condition and have plenty of use left in them.

Here is the Craigs list posting also. . . .
