Community Profile

TS Fresh Air is a community for recommending fic in the thriving Sentinel fandom. The requirements are few: anyone can post a rec for any genre of TS story, it just has to be no more than 2 3 years old. By now, we've got a lot of outlets where we can find recs for the classics -- this community is specifically for those fresher pieces. ;-) (Note: To encourage rec'ing activity and because those original classics are very long ago now, I've upped the age limit a bit. - ainm, 2-24-08)

And I *mean* anyone -- for now, I'm allowing anonymous comments, though LJ doesn't allow anyone without an account to make an initial post. If someone without an LJ happens to want to rec something, feel free to follow the guidelines below, then e-mail the info to ainm @ livejournal.com or fluterbev @ yahoo . co . uk (remove spaces). The more the merrier! I want to encourage recs, encourage dialog, encourage those currently writing & reading in the fandom, not discourage anybody.

Still, we have to have *some* sort of structure here. :-) So when you post a rec, please use something along the following lines:

The subject of the post should have the story title & the author's name

The body should include the following:
Story Title: [title]
Author: [name], [LJ name if known]
Genre: [gen or slash]
Rating: [G - NC-17, and if the author doesn't specify, please try to guess]
Warning if it's something really severe (e.g., death of canon character, underage sex, bestiality)
Location: [URL for a net story, zine info on a physical zine story -- we're going for inclusive here, so zine stories are welcome!], [size if it's available, so people can know what they're getting into {e.g., 22K}]
Summary: [if you feel like it, & it can be done without spoiling the story, a short summary]
Why It's Worth Checking Out: [don't feel you have to write a novel-length description of why this is the coolest thing ever, just let us know why you're bothering to recommend it! :-) ]

It might be an idea to check that list out before posting a new rec, in case it has been recommended before. Also, it is a good place to go looking for recs if you simply want to find some stories to read :-)

A few other rules/advisements:

This isn't a fic announcement community (but ts_news is!). That's not to say that very new fics can't be rec'd, but I want someone to have read it first and then decide it's worth rec'ing. Also, partly to avoid the fic annoucement trap and also because it just seems a little weird, I would prefer no self-rec'ing. (Bribe a friend to rec you or something, just don't rec yourself. ;-) )

And of course I'm expecting us all to be reasonable & responsible, when rec'ing or commenting. Critique of a story ("this style doesn't appeal to me personally") is OK; trashing a story ("this shit should never have left the author's hands") or an author ("this bimbo should never write again") is obviously *not* OK. Remember, the point here is to *encourage*, not discourage. (I *will* police! :-) )
