All right, in celebration of Gravitation Ex's track 76 being released at the end of this September, I will now leave a few recommendations from the fandom Gravitation by Murakami Maki (村上真紀). As I find new fanfics and/or fanart, I'll continue to post, because that's just how much I love this fandom!
It's really a shame there aren't more Suguru x Hiroshi fics, but here is a list of wonderful fanfiction by some very talented writers!

I am a writing major, so anything I recommend is going to be extremely well written, or stories with great plots and characters. Review: It all begins when a misunderstanding between Eiri and Shuichi causes Eiri to mistakenly harm Shuichi before he flys off to New York to escape, in hopes that his own lack of presence will heal Shuichi in ways he feels he cannot.

Fast forward two years, in chapter one of Illusions of Life, Eiri learns of Shuichi's destructive behavior as a result of his disappearance. He is flown back to Japan to calm the now bitter singer, but learns that Shuichi no longer trusts anyone, including himself.

As Eiri settles down in his new lavish home, he finds out the most crazy thing has happened...Shuichi owns the apartment across from him, and there are only two apartments per floor of the building! They learn this is no coincidence, and the meddlers have set this up so gravity can take over and pull the ex-lovers together again...

This sounds like the typical "Yuki runs off to America and Shuichi becomes bitter" story, but Despina is, to be quite honest, the pioneer of those stories in this fandom. Each story gets deeper under the skin of the characters of Gravitation, and shows them in a brand new light; it is a "what if" trail that easily picks up where Murakami Sensei has left off (even as she updates her latest Gravi tracks) and just absorbs the reader into the story. Ever since I started reading this series, I have been sucked in and have awaited each and every update. Even though the updates have a gap in between them (since Despina has a busy life, as many of us do) I find myself re-reading each story, still in awe of her portrayal of the characters.

Go read all of Despina's work...it's wonderful!

Review: By the end of reading this, I have begun to melt as Yuki Eiri drops his barriers and opens up to Shuichi in a way that is entirely believeable. What starts out as a cute Shuichi seducing Eiri to sleep with him, turns into an emotional display of Eiri's feelings, though unlike most authors, Nishizono doesn't go overboard, and keeps Eiri quite in character.

Very sweet and romantic, and if you're down, it can turn you around.

Review: I love it when Tsubaki has updated these stories. Each story is stand-alone, and can be read in any order. It's simply a collection of sweet stories featuring our two bishies; it's relaxing to read and isn't too emotionally involving, though, there are a few of them that are involving, though they leave the reader with a sense of fullfilment.

Review: These stories depict a sense of comfort--even in the throughs of a lover's spat--between Eiri and Shuichi. Ralphiere really brings out the lazy and content side we don't often see from Murakami sensei, and adds a sense of calm affection in these boys' relationship. Although Eiri and Shuichi fight a lot, their opposite personalities clashing along the way, they always come back together in these stories, creating comfort in the reader, knowing that everything will be alright in the end.

Review: Although incomplete, this is another of Ralphiere's ingeniously amazing pieces...

Eiri cannot help himself...even though he has never outright told Shuichi that he loves him, everyone knows, even Tatsuha, who willingly gives his body for Eiri to use when Eiri is too mentally unstable to handle the present.

Shuichi knows Eiri has some sick quirks, and because he loves Eiri, he goes along with them. One day he returns to find Eiri and Tatsuha blazed out of their minds on alcohol and "pills"and when he kisses Eiri, the vaguely familiar taste on his tongue mortifies the singer; Shuichi must decide how much he really loves Eiri, and if he can handle this new side of Eiri.

Tatsuha knows it's wrong, but when Eiri returned from New York, he was so alone, and Tatsuha just wanted to make things better because he loved his brother. Tatsuha still knows it's wrong; he knows Eiri only loves Shuichi, will always love Shuichi and the singer will always love his brother, the bitter writer. Tatsuha can't help but love them both...

Absolutely genius, I tell you. I'm not one for incest, but this story has my mind reeling.

Review: Such a lovely flow, showing the evolution of how Eiri warms up to Shuichi. Even though the author can be so cold to his little lover, Shuichi will take it; he will take the pain; he will be a massochist, if it means Eiri will stay with him.

I don't even know how to describe this story beyond that. It's really lovely, and LuvWriter does a wonderful job showing the progression of Eiri and Shu's relationship, as well as keeping them true to their characters.

Review: I'm also not one to read alternate universe-type stories, but I find this one absolutely fascinating!

Life on the street is not easy, but throw in the fact that a gorgeous man known as Yuki Eiri becomes a regular and Shuichi is out of his mind. The other regulars become harder to handle, and Eiri begins to tell Shuichi he'd rather fuck at his own home than at Shuichi's dreary, run-down shack. If that's not confusing, than hearing Tatsuha say "Oh so you're Shuichi. Eiri's been doing better since he met you," is downright terrifying.

Grunhilda does an amazing job of pulling the characters out of their normal element, and puts everything Eiri and Shu holds precious at stake. The second story is the sequel to the one-shot, and I highly recommend both!

Picture this: a sheltered young woman finds herself wooed by a spoiled young man who appears at first glance to be a jerk, but proves to have hidden depths. Can she get over her initial bad impression and learn to love him?

Sounds like a romance novel, doesn't it? Or even the plot of Beauty and the Beast? What it actually is, is the plot of this fabulous story of how Belle and Gaston both grow up a bit (okay, Gaston grows up a lot) and learn to love each other as they are, not as they would wish each other to be.

I'll admit it, I only started reading this novel because it was huge and because the idea intrigued me. Man am I glad I did! TrudiRose does a brilliant job with this fic, from the writing (spot-on, with clever twists on canon dialogue), to the backstory (no Beast, but every character in town has a history, even if we don't get all of the details of each one), to the characterizations.

Let's talk about the characterizations for a minute. Disney's movie is good for what it is, but it is still directed for children and, as such, is very black and white. Trudi's fic is geared towards adults and thus she plays in shades of grey. Belle isn't perfect, for one thing. Even in the movie she's biased against those who don't read (and remember, in this time period the vast majority of the populous would be illiterate) and she is distinctly unimpressed with everyone in the village. Gaston, on the other hand, isn't completely worthless. He's a brilliant hunter and, yes, while he brags shamelessly, this does mean that he has a knowledge and familiarity with the forest that not many people can match. He also never backs down from a challenge and is highly loyal (even if he hasn't yet learned how to demonstrate that loyalty). Most importantly, he isn't a sociopath (as he clearly is in the movie). Heh. As I read what I just wrote, I can't help thinking of how Elizabeth Bennet was so prejudiced and Mr. Darcy was so proud.

Ahem. Anyway, by going deeper into Belle and Gaston's characters, Trudi succeeds in making both of them much more human and likeable (as she does for the rest of the characters, even LeFou!) I found myself totally invested in their rocky but burgeoning relationship, from Belle's attempts to turn Gaston into a great reader (ha!) to Gaston's discovery that being nice makes him even *more* popular (Gaston, as Belle notes, is the only person she knows who can be 'selfishly altruistic'). By the end of the story, I was a little in love with Gaston myself (I know!) and Belle has learned far more about understanding differences than she ever learned in the movie.

TrudiRose started this enormous undertaking with a simple idea: would it be possible to plausibly write a romance between Belle and Gaston? The answer is a resounding *yes*!

Please bear with me! The community has been quiet for the last few months. No excuses! I take full responsibility for the lack of content.

We'd like to try something new to get things up and going once again. Starting next month, every couple of months, we'll be hosting a Love/Shout-Out Month. During the month, we'll be throwing our old regular reccing setup out of the window in favor of something a little more broad in scope. We'll need, at the very least, four volunteers to participate during these Love Months. We'll be asking them to share a few of their very favorite fannish things of the moment. They'll be expected to contribute by posting about something that they are loving each week for four consecutive weeks. Your favorite things could include anything from brand spanking new fandoms to rare-pairing fic you've recently enjoyed to authors not to be missed to music in the form of character playlists ( i.e. songs that Gwendal listens to while knitting *G*). Volunteers have the option of sticking to one fandom for the duration of the month or if he/she is a multifannish butterfly, giving us a taste of four different ones. The choice is yours!

Subject matter and rec format is up to you. All we ask is that you provide us with good working links and a brief rundown on why you're recommending it.

It's interesting because the author uses it to explore Wolfram's character, like what if he got pregant, how would it change him, and how would he react. Why Must This Story Be Read? I guess I have a thing for bittersweet fics. *g*

This one's short and packs a punch. Kubota dreams about another type of life he and Tokito could be living, one in which the ever-present glove doesn't hide anything to worry about. The author gets across just how much Tokito has come to mean to Kubota, how much they both depend on each other for, well, EVERYTHING in a not entirely healthy way that, amazingly enough, still manages to be sweet.

I find it extremely difficult to describe my favorite WA fics because the possibility for angst in the canon is way up there, but! There truly is so much sweetness between the two main characters despite - or maybe because of - the way they live their lives, that finding a fic that manages to balance out the bleak and the sweet is a wonderful find indeed. This ficlet is definitely one of them, in my opinion.

It must be the glove thing that makes him wake with that pricking sensation in his eyes and an ache in his throat he has to swallow against several times.

... It's funny. In a deadpan manner entirely appropriate to the violence, insanity and dorkitude these two spread about them.

Normal people generally don’t find themselves back to back with an asshole who’s got way more mommy issues than skin pigment and shooting at perhaps 1/3 of the Sicilian mob in some fuck-knows-what-goes-on-here warehouse because of an address cock-up.

In truth, they’re supposed to be shooting at the Russian mob on the other side of the city.

Talk about fucking embarrassing.

Also, this fic has the best description I've seen (and it's ignored a lot in fanfic, because let's face it, it's kind of weird, and difficult to pull off convincingly) of that moment when Badou just flips mid-fight. Man, there are an awful lot of split personalities in Dogs, aren't there? Well, that's cool.

Or, Unlikely Pairings Fridge Has Converted Me To, Part the Nth T_T. Character observation is awesome, and the scenery is very pretty (the author has a very particular writing style that will probably annoy the fuck out of some people, but a) it works really well here, and b) I think it's cool, so there). Naoto is restrained and delightfully awkward. Badou is SUCH AN IDIOT. Giovanni is an absolute smug little shit, as is right and proper.

Why Must This Story Be Read? This short piece hurts me, but it also has a certain truth to it that anyone who's read Wild Adapter has surely wondered about; we've all seen the eventual effects of W.A. on those who use it, on those who are anywhere near them when they lose control.

So what about Tokito? What if there's no cure for his condition, what if it worsens? Basically, what if there's no happy ending?

Like I said, this story hurts. But I love it, because the characterizations are dead-on, in my opinion, and - like the manga itself - it doesn't back away from harsh reality and I can't help but appreciate that.

The edge of Kubota's mouth twitched, and Tokito reached up to kiss his sigh away, his fangs on Kubota's lips reminding him of the beast who lingered inside and stole away the cat's sanity second by second, day by day.

Why Must This Story Be Read?

The Yu-Gi-Oh fandom has a lot of bad Egyptian mythology. (Gratuitous swearing by Ra, anyone?) This story is something else entirely. Although I can't claim to know a lot about Egyptian mythology, this fits with what I do know. More importantly, it presents some really interesting possibilities about Bakura. This is a dark and chilling story that will simultaneously captive you and horrify you. It's not for the faint of heart, but it's definitely worth the effort it takes to read.

Neat little piece of character observation. optimus_fridge has also written a fic like this, so -- well, take it as read that the idea of Badou talking and talking about whatever random shit passes through his head, and Naoto just sitting, not saying anything, but not leaving either, jives as natural with the fen. And Rabid has Badou's voice down.

Why Must This Story Be Read?
Very atmospheric. Ensemble drama. Vivid, nasty, sexy imagery. What are the Native Americans doing here? This manga's set in Europe, however vaguely. This is a fic about how Haine and Badou are insane and violent and damaged and yeah, that's about it, really, but it works for them. And me haha :P~

And Badou can be such a suicide punk sometimes, too close, too serpentine the way he flicks his tongue and wonders,

“What’s the game today, Stray Dog?”

Sometimes it is death and destruction, but it is always, always blood.

Why Must This Story Be Read? What I love about this fic is how clearly it spells out just who has the actual power in this relationship, and it ain't our nearly-sociopathic former gang leader.

Told from Kubota's point of view and set after Dice 41 (the most current published chapter), at first glance you might think it's a simple story about sex. It's not. However, the sex - hot and tender and all the things I adore - is important since Kubota hasn't yet figured out how to communicate the extent of his devotion to Tokito through words.

He thinks to himself: He couldn't explain it, especially when he could live his life never having sex again, and not notice the lack of it. This, however, was different.

But maybe Kubota doesn't really need to learn the words, because Tokito obviously gets the message, giving Kubota what he wants despite delightful embarrassment, as usual.

It's about as close to fluff as you can get with this pairing, and yet it's also a accurate look at just how much Tokito effects Kubota's very existence.

Why Must This Story Be Read? The story is an exploration of what the early days may have been like, when Kubota first brought Tokito home, and how their relationship progresses from one of uncertainty and curiousity to one of mutual dependence. Kubota's fascination with his "cat" is delightful as well as thoughtful. Tokito's slow-growing yet inescapable trust of Kubota is dead-on and utterly charming.

However, you also get a good sense of the precariousness of their newfound relationship, the fact that they are trying to create something stable out of their extraordinarily unstable lives. You can't help but root for them at every new smile, new touch; the new sense that who they are together balances out the difficulties of who they are separately. They may not have the healthiest relationship in the universe, but the author manages to show us the sweetness and loyalty that just might make everything turn out all right.

Link: And Tokito would smile, and Kubota would smile back, and the rest of the world just faded.

Why Must This Story Be Read?
An unexpected pairing that, possibly because of this, gives a new insight into both characters. The reason for the pairing is set up well and is made believable, and by the end I was left with the delighful sense that the two characters now shared a secret with each other, and that a link had been made that had not been there before. The writing is very good and the sex scene is intense. This was a very satisfying read.
