    Okay, a close election was stolen illegally by the Republicans. At least half the country clearly wants us to head in a more liberal direction based on the sentiments expressed in exit polling. A majority said they hoped Bush would change his tactics if he won. Bush instead chants, "Mandate" over and over and hopes people forget what they were thinking before the chanting started. The Republicans picked up a few seats in the Senate in questionable elections. They picked up the 4 seats in the House that Tom Delay had illegally gerrymandered in Texas (the Supreme Court has decided this was illegal, not me), no more than that. More people voted for the 45 Democratic Senators than voted for all the 55 Republican Senators, because the Republican Senators mostly come from states with hardly any people living in them compared to the blue states. It seems clear to me that the majority no longer rules in this country, we are being ruled by about a third of the population.

    The way the Republicans rose to power was by pulling this trick that the religious right has pulled many times too. I've read about it on a number of their web sites over the years: HIDE YOUR ACTUAL NUMBERS AND MAKE AS MUCH NOISE AS POSSIBLE. Use terms like "moral majority" to make it seem that there are more of you. Fillibuster and use as many delaying and demonizing tactics as possible. Cheat till you get a majority you don't deserve, then scream that you have a mandate.

    So now that the Republicans have won, we can expect the Democrats to dig in and move as far to the left as the Republicans moved to the right, correct? I mean, they are our last defense against the rabid mob that want to decimate what few rights we have left, who want to criminalize abortion, right? After all, they don't have to PRETEND to represent a huge crowd, they really DO; they don't just represent a few small weird fundamentalist groups and greedy businessmen, they represent the majority of Americans, right?

    Well, no, the Democrats have decided what is best for them is that they change their approach and become ANTI-ABORTION and ANTI-FREEDOM. They've overwhelmingly decided to put this Zell Miller clone named Harry Reid who is PRO-LIFE and who wrote the fucking FLAG-BURNING AMENDMENT as the new DEMOCRATIC MINORITY LEADER.

    So, no, they will NOT get more liberal to hold off the conservatives. They will become conservatives themselves.

    Umm, whaaa--?!?

    So in other words, the country is split in half and our half now literally has NO REPRESENTATION IN THE GOVERNMENT.

    Listen to this "logic:"

    "When you look a presidential election where we lost in every age group except one, I think it time to do some reassessment - and that's one reason why I'm glad Harry is there," said Senator Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California. "I believe very strongly that the voice of the moderates of our caucus ought to have some sway. I have noticed in the past that all the gravitas has slid to the left. All one has to do is look at the map to know that you can't win a presidential election that way."

    We DID win the election, you stupid bitch! You should be spewing the gas fumes that come out of your fetid mouth about the OHIO RECOUNT and all the dirty local elections.

    THE LAST TIME THE DEMOCRATS TRIED THIS APPROACH, IT LED TO THEM LOSING EVEN MORE SEATS IN CONGRESS. That was 2002 and also back in 1994. Both times the strategy was called, "Republican Lite." After the past two years when grass-roots organizations PROVED without a shadow of a doubt that there is a larger group of people moving further to the left than those moving to the right, the Democrats have decided ONCE AGAIN to abandon their base and kiss Republican ass. WHO THE FUCK WOULD EVER VOTE FOR A FAKE REPUBLICAN IF YOU CAN VOTE FOR A REAL ONE???

    Look, in the South Bronx, the woman who had been the state Senator there for 26 years just joined the Republican party prior to this last election because she was scared of losing her seat. An unknown radical leftist ran against her and GOT 86% OF THE VOTE. Now, granted, the rest of the country is not the South Bronx, but the point is that PEOPLE LIKE TO HAVE A REAL CHOICE WHEN THEY VOTE.

    IF BOTH PARTIES ARE ANTI-ABORTION NOW WHILE A MAJORITY OF THE COUNTRY IS PRO-ABORTION, WE CLEARLY ARE NOT BEING GOVERNED BY OUR PEERS. WE ARE BEING RULED BY A RADICAL MINORITY, AND EVEN OUR OWN "LEADERS" ARE KOW-TOWING TO THE RADICAL RIGHT! We have nobody speaking for US.

    THE HALF OF THE COUNTRY THAT VOTED FOR JOHN KERRY IS THE NEW SILENT MAJORITY, we are all (and I mean ALL) utterly and completely disenfranchised by our elected officials.

    Say goodbye to abortion, say goodbye to education, say goodbye to freedom, say goodbye to due process under the law, say goodbye to any dream you ever had of true equality for women or non-whites.

    Karl Rove went on "Meet the Press" last week and said it is his goal to make sure the current Repuiblican majority is "permanent." By permanent, he admitted he probably "only" meant 50-60 years. He said trends in politics tend to last 30-40 years, but the Roosevelt New Deal lasted 50-60, and he means to eradicate the New Deal. That means say goodbye to Social Security, say goodbye to any safety net at all.

    Say hello to survival of the fattest.

    And don't bother to write your Democratic reps. They're too busy voting against abortion and voting for more oil wars.

    We are DOOMED. Not by lack of numbers, but by sellouts and cowards.

    It occurs to me one way the left can be better organized in terms of media presentation, and it would involve networking better.

    When I once got asked to be on this other guy's public access show, this guy named "Maddog," I accepted but only after a plan popped into my head. I had a suspicion that it was a setup. He said he wanted me to play a mental patient but wouldn't say more. I told him I don't do improv. He said he'd interview me and the girl on my show about the show if I did this improv bit with him. I said okay, but then I got together with a co-writer and wrote 14-20 one-liners and possible comebacks to his zingers that he might try to pull on me. Also, I wrote down notes for whatever I wanted to plug, and hoped that adrenalin would fill in the blanks.

    The show started and none of his lines were half as clever as I had feared, I got lots of jokes in that he had no response for, and when he sat there saying NOTHING, I started directing his camerapeople and editor what shot they should take and giving plugs for myself. He started yelling on camera about how I had broken character and saboutaged his show! Just because I hadn't been his patsy. The next day on the street, this woman who then worked for Disney and now works for DC comics asked me if it was an Andy Kaufman gag we had worked out beforehand! But no, I had actually assumed control of this guy's show and caused him to lose his temper on camera MERELY BY BEING PREPARED WITH A DOZEN JOKES THAT TOOK A HALF HOUR TO WRITE.

    Now, the FOT News shows are not amateur public access productions and the Janeane Garafolos and Tim Robbins of the world are not going to be able to take over their shows so easily. But spending a half hour or hour with some possible comebacks geared toward the other people you know are going to be on the show would decrease the chance of them just becoming tonight's rotating liberal patsy that gets ganged-up on.

    FOT News beat CNN in the ratings so CNN has decided it needs to "be more conservative." I didn't know FACTS could be liberal or conservative--oh that's right, I forgot that CNN is entertainment and not news. MSNBC has decided it needs to position itself to the right of CNN so it can catch the audience who thinks CNN is too liberal and Fox is too conservative. Yes, I know they're all missing the obvious fact that whoever reported REALITY would get the 67% of the public who doubts all the current talking heads.

    I was listening to Randi Rhodes on Air America last week talking about how the election was stolen and then she excitedly read an e-mail she received from a Congressional Democrat (below) that he had written to the GAO. He had cced Randi a copy, telling her that he heard her talking, then went into action. Today the letter (again, below) made it back to me from one of my media friends, who had received it from one of his mainstream friends, and so on.

    It's nice this story is getting some play on the net and it's nice that Randi Rhodes can affect policy, but REALLY--

    LET'S GET REAL--

    If the Dems did even 1/100th of this, it would be all over CNN and a huge national scandal by now. The Republicans would have been all over this in every way imaginable. Bush would not have conceded like Kerry did, and the Republicans wouldn't be getting their policy from listening to the radio. The Republicans find stuff out that they then tell Rush Limbaugh to report, not the other way around!!! The Democrats should know things BEFORE Randi Rhodes knows them! And if Kerry had not conceded, he may (probably) would still have lost the presidency, but the question of voter fraud would be big news and not something circulated on the internet and looked up on Snopes.

    So I think Laura Flanders is right--
    1. The election was stolen by the Republicans and must be investigated and acted upon (if you agree, please donate to http://www.blackboxvoting.org).
    2. Even though technically we won, the party should still be re-organized and reinvigorated. Terry McCauliffe must go, and the red states must be infiltrated with gusto. It's far more likely that we could win them back than that the Republicans can win the northeast, so let's go for it.
    3. (Not a Laura Flanders point, but my own point): Anti-Christian bias hurts the Democrats. The Republicans love the born-agains more than the real Christians, but the Dems have abandoned the real Christians. The Christians who have not abandoned science (the majority of them in this country) either vote Republican or don't vote because they think the Dems look down on them. These are good people, and good people are natural Democrats. We've forgotten that religious tolerance works both ways. I'm not atheist, I'm agnostic, and I have had enough study and experience to understand that all god forms are real that psychic energy is invested in--real to that psyche, at least. To mock other people's gods or prophets is completely UNscientific and utterly presumptive.

    Rx from Doctor Dean: "We will not be silent."
    See, if Nader were for real and not full of shit, he'd be doing things like Howard Dean is doing and like Paul Wellestone used to--creating organizations and institutions that can train new politicians that understand the concept of working for the public good.

    This is very much where the right-wing was in 64 after Johnson beat them, only Johnson TROUNCED Goldwater. Nevertheless, Goldwater was cited as the inspiration for Nixon and for Reagan. The conservatives didn't try to "go mainstream" after they lost in 64, they decided to dig trenches and look at it as a long-term battle to sway politics to their vision. People act like the Yankees were always successful and the conservatives always controlled the government. The conservatives were NOWHERE in the 60s but won the presidency by 68, the Yankees had to PAY a local radio station to carry their games in 1973 but were world champions by 1977. You can change almost anything if you're willing to work at it for a few years in a row.

    Dean is right (below), you have to look at it in the long term and continually develop a farm team of future stars. This is precisely the formula we need to follow. ~~Peter

    Montana, one of the reddest states, has a new Democratic governor.

    First-time candidates for state legislatures from Hawaii to Connecticut beat
    incumbent Republicans.

    And a record number of us voted to change course -- more Americans voted
    against George Bush than any sitting president in history.

    Today is not an ending.

    Regardless of the outcome yesterday, we have begun to revive our democracy.

    While we did not get the result we wanted in the presidential race, we laid the
    groundwork for a new generation of Democratic leaders.

    Democracy for America trained thousands of organizers and brought new
    leadership into the political process. And down the ballot, in state after state, we
    elected Dean Dozen candidates who will be the rising stars of the Democratic
    Party in years ahead.

    Tens of millions of us are disappointed today because we put so much of
    ourselves into this election. We donated money, we talked to friends, we knocked on
    doors. We invested ourselves in the political process.

    That process does not end today. These are not short-term investments. We
    will only create lasting change if that sense of obligation and responsibility
    becomes a permanent part of our lives.

    Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "Our lives begin to end the day we become
    silent about things that matter."

    We will not be silent.

    Thank you for everything you did for our cause in this election. But we are
    not stopping here.

    Governor Howard Dean, MD

    CLICK TO WATCH ME VOTE FOR KERRY

    People outside of NYC should be jealous of us, I had ONE person on line in front of me and one behind, that's it. Nobody challenged my vote and the one cop there smiled and nodded at me for coming out early to vote. It was very easy and very nice. I've heard that the Republicans are out in most of the states where it might be close though, including New Jersey. This one NJ guy called Air America already saying he was challenged by a repug but he won the challenge. If that happens to you, try as hard as you can to vote and settle for a provisional ballot only as a last resort. We don't know if those will even be counted.

    But I think it's gonna be a fairly easy Kerry victory.

    Jimmy Breslin announced this morning that Kerry has won and he (Breslin) is retiring. He says he's not even staying up to watch the results, he knows Kerry won.

    Mallard Fillmore, the worst and most republican comic strip of all time, announced this morning that Kerry will win.

    Dude. KERRY LANDSLIDE.

    BUSH 'TOOK COCAINE AT CAMP DAVID'
    I wonder if Kitty Kelley is going to turn up dead of an apparent suicide like the last writer who wrote about Bush and cocaine?

    It's not the snorting and smoking that bothers me, it's the typical lying. Since Bush wants to make a big deal out of what Kerry did when he was young, what did Bush do when he was young? Was he leading anti-war groups and speaking before Congress like Kerry? Was he a role model and a hero like the young Kerry? Read on to find out...

    BUSH 'TOOK COCAINE AT CAMP DAVID' Sep 6 2004
    And wife Laura liked dope, says book

    By Emma Pryer

    GEORGE W Bush snorted cocaine at Camp David, a new book claims.

    His wife Laura also allegedly tried cannabis in her youth.

    Author Kitty Kelley says in her biography The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty, that the US President first used coke at university in the mid-1960s.

    She quotes his former sister-in-law Sharon Bush who claims: "Bush did coke at Camp David when his father was President, and not just once either."

    Other acquaintances allege that as a 26-year-old National Guard, Bush "liked to sneak out back for a joint or into the bathroom for a line of cocaine".

    Bush has admitted being an alcoholic but, asked during the 1999 election if he did drugs, he said: "I've told the American people that years ago I made some mistakes.

    "I've learned from my mistakes and should I be fortunate enough to become president I will bring dignity and honour to the office."

    Later an aide clarified his remarks saying Bush hadn't taken illegal drugs in the past 25 years.

    Kelley says that the Bush family covered up scandals because of their wealth and influence. She claims George W started drinking at school and continued at Yale university to overcome shyness.

    Former student Torbery George says in the book: "Poor Georgie. He couldn't relate to women unless he was loaded."

    Another says: "He went out of his way to act crude. It's amazing someone you held in such low esteem later became president."

    Wow, the republicans got a democrat to go on stage and say that Dick Cheney is good and Kerry is bad? Umm, before you think it's a republican victory of sorts, you might want to read the following...

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    JUST THE FACTS:
    ZIG ZAG ZELL
    While U.S. Senator Zell Miller has signaled his support for George Bush, the facts are Miller and Kerry have the exact same record when it comes to defending the nation and Miller even called Kerry an "Authentic American Hero" who has "Worked to Strengthen Our Military."
    "I've been going to Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinners in Georgia since the 1950s, so I've seen a lot of speeches," says Sen. Zell Miller (D-Ga.), easily the Senate Democrat most supportive of the Bush agenda. "Kerry's was by far the best speech I have ever heard given at a function like that. He talked about citizen-soldiers and he talked about the flag raisers at Iwo Jima. It was a very good, touching speech." (Salon, Aug. 10, 2001)
    FACT: Zell Miller Lauded John Kerry as an Authentic American Hero
    "My job tonight is an easy one: to present to you one of this nation's authentic heroes, one of this party's best-known and greatest leaders -- and a good friend. He was once a lieutenant governor - but he didn't stay in that office 16 years, like someone else I know. It just took two years before the people of Massachusetts moved him into the United States Senate in 1984. -- U.S. Senator Zell Miller (Remarks to the Democratic Party of Georgia Jefferson Jackson Dinner 2001)
    FACT: Zell Miller Said John Kerry Worked to Strengthen Our Military; Fought for Balanced Budgets
    "In his 16 years in the Senate, John Kerry has fought against government waste and worked hard to bring some accountability to Washington. Early in his Senate career in 1986, John signed on to the Gramm-Rudman-Hollings Deficit Reduction Bill, and he fought for balanced budgets before it was considered politically correct for Democrats to do so. John has worked to strengthen our military, reform public education, boost the economy and protect the environment." -- U.S. Senator Zell Miller (Remarks to the Democratic Party of Georgia Jefferson Jackson Dinner 2001)
    FACT: John Kerry & Zell Miller Have Supported the EXACT Same Amount of Intelligence Funding
    Kerry & Miller Have Supported the Exact Same Intelligence Funding in the Senate -- Since joining the Senate in 2000, Zell Miller and John Kerry have supported the exact same funding levels for America's Intelligence agencies. John Kerry served on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence for 6 years and is the former Vice Chairman of the Committee. Kerry joined the Committee in early 1993 and served until early 2001. Zell Miller has not served on the Intelligence Committee, Armed Services Committee or the Foreign Relations Committee in his four years in the Senate.
    FY04 Intel Authorization (2003, Unanimous Senate Voice Vote 11/21/03) FY03 Intel Authorization (2002, Unanimous Senate Voice Vote 09/25/02) FY02 Intel Authorization (2001, Unanimous Senate Voice Vote 12/13/01) FY01 Intel Authorization (2000, Unanimous Senate Voice Vote 12/06/00)
    FACT: John Kerry & Zell Miller Have Both Supported Increases in Defense Funding -- including the Largest since the 1980's
    John Kerry & Zell Miller are Both Strong Supporters of America's Military & Voted for the "Largest Increase in Defense Spending Since the Early 1980's" -- John Kerry and Zell Miller are strong supporters of the U.S. Armed Services and has consistently worked to ensure the military has the best equipment and training possible. In 2002, John Kerry & Zell Miller voted for a large increase in the defense budget. This increase provided more than $355 billion for the Defense Department for 2003, an increase of $21 billion over 2002. This measure includes $71.5 billion for procurement programs such as $4 billion for the Air Force's F-22 fighter jets, $3.5 billion for the Joint Strike Fighter and $279.3 million for an E-8C Joint Stars (JSTARS) aircraft. Kerry's vote also funded a 4.1 percent pay increase for military personnel, $160 million for the B-1 Bomber Defense System Upgrade, $1.5 billion for a new attack submarine, more than $630 million for Army and Navy variants of the Blackhawk helicopter, $3.2 billion for additional C-17 transports, $900 million for R&D of the Comanche helicopter and more than $800 million for Trident Submarine conversion. The current chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, John Warner (R-Va.) stated:
    "The defense spending increase for FY03 is the largest increase in defense spending since the early 1980's-reflecting the importance of defending the homeland and winning the global war against terrorism. The funding included in this bill will help to ensure that our military has the tools it needs to defend our nation." (2002, Senate Roll Call Vote No. 239; Websites of U.S. Senators Warner, Daschle, Dodd accessed 7/25/03)
    Toward a New Kind of Liberal Tolerance
    The republican/intelligence/neo-fascist community has been sending people to join our organizations or pretend to be our friends for years now for two main reasons:
    1. They can get information on us till we realize they are operatives, and
    2. Once we realize they're operatives, they hope others will view us as paranoid and that we may in fact become paranoid.
    For this reason, especially in THIS election year, non-famous Liberals (i.e NOT Janeane Garafolo or Al Franken) ought to be more tolerant of each other's need for proof of legitimacy. I don't mean signing loyalty oaths, I mean if something suspicious is going on and another liberal asks us to explain our side of it, we SHOULD. We should keep proving who we are to each other and not get angry when asked for proof over and over. The last stripper I tried to be friends with started publicly attacking me when I questioned her motivations one day when suspicious things started happening. If she had nothing to hide, she wouldn't have done that. It doesn't mean she was a republican operative, but it obviously means she wasn't really my friend. A friend would have understood the situation I live in, or at least tried to.
    When people come up and flatter you and desperately want to be your friend, a warning bell should go off in your head and you should be on guard. Flattery is usually the opening attack of the con artist; you should condition yourself to be repelled by it under most circumstances.
    I lost 2 friends on 911 and the Republicans are saying I support Al Quaeda
    I read a recent poll in business week in which 35% of those asked said they would change their political party affiliation for $500.
    FIVE HUNDRED! That's not even a month's rent.
    There are a lot of people desperate to sell out, it seems.
    Case in point: Pathetic has-been, former musician, former admitted drug dealer Bobby Steele, who once told me that the Rothschild family (read: "The Jews") is really a lizard species with forked tongues, spied on me for years looking for something he could twist to use against me. Who put him up to this I don't know, but since he's been working as a moderator on a neo-fascist web site recently, I can hazard a guess. The web site in question seems to mostly be visited by liberals who want to tell Bobby he should commit suicide, so I don't think it's reaching it's intended target audience, if such a thing as a fascist teenage voting bloc still exists. Bush has made skinheads unfashionable.
    Anyway, on this site, Bobby has free reign to lie continually, spouting his "facts" that not even Dick Cheney would stand behind. His recent attacks on me claiming I support Al Quaeda are as low as the swift boat liars' commercials.
    But it doesn't matter what they say and do anymore. Nobody believes them.
    How do I know? Bobby's link to my site on the page he claims says I support Al Quaeda got a grand total of 2 hits. Two.
    So Bobby can go on and on spreading lies about me and trying to ride my coattails, but apparently, NOBODY CARES WHAT HE SAYS.
    Bobby, give it up, you're over.
    I'm jealous of Ted Rall. He gets smeared by more colorful lunatics like O'Reilly and that self-loathing racist Michelle Malkin (who has a new book out saying that putting Japanese people and Arabs into concentration camps in the United States is a good idea). At least people have heard of the creeps that attack Ted.
    The new swift boat veterans for Bush ad doesn't lie about Kerry's record in war. Instead, in it, the veterans explain that they are bitter, angry old men still pissed off at Kerry for working to end their wonderful Viet Nam war.
    The commercial should end with them saying, "...and so that's why we all have been lying in your face about John Kerry all this time."
    This morning, Unfiltered had a really good interview with a female scientist who had data on exactly how toxic fish have now become, thanks to the Bush administration. Basically, STOP EATING SUSHI. It's made mostly from large fish and large fish eat smaller fish, live longer, and accumulate more mercury in their system. Since Bush has deliberately raised the level of mercury in our waters to toxic levels as a favor to businesses that gave him money, tuna fish is now poisonous to humans and cats, so is grouper and alot of other stuff. There's a web site you can go to linked from their blog at http://unfilteredradio.com/ to send them a strand of your hair and find out if you are already carrying a toxic amount of mercury in your system.
    https://usa.greenpeace.org/mercury/
    So far, 23% of those people testing themselves on the greenpeace site have dangerous levels of mercury in their bodies thanks specifically to DIck Cheney and George Bush and their contributors in the coal industry.
    To call the Bush administration stupid is to be kind to them. To call them evil is to be kind to them and they don't merit kindness of any sort. There need to be new words created specifically to describe the level of inadequacy, corruption, duplicity, moral bankruptcy and greed they have created; I've heard of seven levels of Hell and they've created the 8th by themselves.
    Likelihood analysis of all possible outcomes of election based on state-by-state polls
    Calculations by Prof. Sam Wang, Princeton University. Your comments, including reports of possible errors, are welcome.
    I originally did this calculation to help think about how to allocate my campaign contributions. I believe that one can make the biggest difference by donating at the margin, where probabilities for success are 20-80%. To read a discussion click here. Since trends are currently in Kerry's favor, I recommend that Democrats give to the Senate campaigns of Tony Knowles (D-AK) and Inez Tenenbaum (D-SC) and to the DSCC. For those of you still wanting to reinforce the national election (see the bias analysis below), I recommend the voter registration and turnout organization America Coming Together. For the optimists there is the DCCC. To point out the obvious, the converse interpretation of these calculations for Republicans is currently to direct resources toward retaining their majority in Congress.
    This calculation is a snapshot in time. It takes a large number of state polls and calculates the likeliest number of electoral votes if the election were held today and reflected those polls.
    Results as of Monday, July 26, 2004 based on state polls as compiled by RealClearPolitics:
    Counting the last six polls the current probability of a Kerry win is 85 percent. 270 electoral votes (EV) are needed to win. The current 50th percentile outcome for Kerry is 295 EV. The 95 percent confidence band is 263-327 EV.
    Kudos to Jim "Kitty" Kaat
    Jim Kaat, announcing the Yankees/Blue Jays game today started talking about a player on the Blue Jays named Carlos Delgado. Delgado refuses to stand when "God Bless America" is played in the 7th inning at Yankee Stadium and he says it's his way of protesting the war.
    Kaat commented that he was shocked at some of the hateful things people were saying about Delgado and added, "Hey! Didn't Muhammad Ali throw out the first ball at the All-Star Game? He refused to go to Viet Nam, he was called a draft dodger, but he's an American Hero!"
    He pointed out that the management of the Toronto Blue Jays has publicly defended Delgado's stance and Michael Kay was quick to point out, "They're not defending what he said, they're defending his right to say it."
