trek_news. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new posts, to seek out new fics and new communities, to boldly go where no fan has gone before.Starfleet Personnel:
trek_news is Star Trek fandom's first newsletter devoted to bringing together each day's batch of Star Trek-related news and fannish pursuits in one easy-to-read package. With all of the different franchises, and now the upcoming movie, we try to bring you as much as possible, but we're human and miss things. We, as editors, rely on our readers to find interesting posts. Unlike a newspaper, we do not have a large staff that can cover every corner of fandom, and we can only do our best in searching for interesting things. For this reason, we welcome all submissions. When making submissions, include the link. Also please include the subject line: Link for Trek_News. If you'd like something worded in a special manner, include that too.
What do you link?
Though we primarily limit ourselves to LJ, we may also grab a few newsfeeds from different websites. We only link to public posts, and will remove any undesired linkage on request.
Archives/Websites: The
trek_news will link to public archives. It does not link to personal archives/website regardless of whether it is on Livejournal or somewhere else.Challenge posts: The
trek_news will only link to challenge posts (either on a private journal or a community) if the challenge runs for a week or longer. Any challenges that run for less than a week will not be linked to. The trek_news will not post reminders of challenges deadlines.Communities: The
trek_news will post new communities, regardless if they are open or closed membership. However, the trek_news will not post challenges or other announcements directed at members of closed communities. We will list master lists that result from said challenges. In addition, we will not link to new communities that are created for the purpose of posting stories by a single authors and/or cooperations.Discussions/Questions: The
trek_news will include all questions and discussions that are relevant to the fandom. There is a certain amount of subjectivity in this area, and for example we won't link to 20 posts on the same subject, however we do try to give a broad and varied range of opinions.Fan Art: Fan art will be included. Headers must include at a minimum pairing or character if gen and ratings. For minor characters (i.e. anyone other than the regulars), please include the franchise. Not all editors are familiar with all franchises. Requests for commission will not be posted.

Fic searches: The
trek_news will only link to fic/thematic searches when they're for a rare pairing and/or for a specific theme. For example: we will not link to a random Kirk/Spock fic search, but we will link to a search for Kirk/Spock While at Kirk is at the academy stories. Illegal issues: Anything that violates the copyright laws in regard to the movies, shows, books and/or soundtracks will not be included in the
trek_news. i.e., we won't like to illegal copies of the movieRants: As long as a rant is directed at something fictional, for example a character or a fanfiction cliché, the
trek_news will link to it. When a rant, community or something else is directed at people and/or their work specifically (writers, artists, archivists, etc) the trek_news will not link to it. (For example: trolls, MST communities, etc)Rec posts: The
trek_news will link to rec posts/websites. RPGs: The
trek_news only includes new RPGs that haven't started play yet or have just started. We will only advertise these RPGs once. The snitch will not advertise searches for new players for existing games. What don't you link?
Possible Trademark/Copyright violations: Anything that violates the copyright/trademark laws will not be linked to. Examples are art commissions, sale of unauthorized Star Trek products, etc.
File Sharing Posts: Anything that violates the trademark laws in regard to the movies, shows, books and/or soundtracks will not be included in the
trek_news. i.e., we won't link to illegal copies of the movieRPF: For the moment,
trek_news does not link to RPF.Privacy: The
trek_news wants to guarantee the privacy of every poster. For this reason, we never link to flocked posts. On occasion, posts are flocked after we link them, in which case a simple post will be enough for us to remove the link. Moreover, if anyone wishes for us not to link/remove a post, we will always respect the poster's request.Disclaimer: The
trek_news reserves the right to reject any submission, if it feels that the poster is trying to circumvent our rules or if the post is detrimental to the trek_news and fandom in general. trekwatch. What does this mean?trekwatch is our friendly neighbourhood watchlist - without it, compiling the newsletter would be much more difficult. If you've been friended, it only means that you've posted Trek-related material and we're ready to link anything else you might post. We can't see any of your locked posts, so please don't friend trekwatch back. If you're uncomfortable with being on the list, for whatever reason, just contact us via e-mail or comment on any of our posts and we'll be happy to remove you.I'm not on the watchlist, but I post fanfic/write filk/share my thoughts/compose epic poetry about Star Trek. Does this mean I won't be linked?
If you're not on the watchlist, or if you don't post to one of the communities on the watchlist, chances are good that you'll fall between the cracks and get missed out. But don't despair! Just e-mail or comment requesting to be added to the watchlist, and we'll be happy to do so. Even if you'd rather not be on the watchlist, let us know if you've got an individual link you'd like us to include. Hailing frequencies are always open!

If you suspect the life of an editor isn't for you, you can still help by letting us know if we've missed any links, communities, or users on our watchlist. It is also immensely helpful if you post your fanfiction with a header - that is, include at least the title, characters and/or pairings, and a rating somewhere before the body of the story.
We'd also be overjoyed at the prospect of a banner and/or complete layout - e-mail us if you're interested in helping out on the artistic side of things.

We're currently looking for enthusiastic fans willing to volunteer for posting one day a week - all information about formatting, as well as using the watchlist, will be provided to you, and we'll do our best to answer any of your questions. If there's sufficient interest, we'll also work on developing a pool of backup editors to sub in when our regulars are unavailable.
