Unofficial blog for Trans Students in the NUS to share information about what the Trans Rep is up to and open up dialogue on what should be done and how it should be done.
Membership is moderated. Only members can post. Content will be mostly (un)moderated by the trans rep for the time being.

Provisional posting guidelines:
- Unless you've got a good reason for making posts open to the public, it's probably a good idea to make any post to
transstudents friends-only. This means that only members of the community can see the post and protects the privacy of whoever feels they need it. Whilst the existence of the "Stealth" lifestyle may be increasingly a controversial issue within the trans community, one of the things this comm will hopefully be useful for is increasing the participation of those trans students who want to keep a low profile. Without this increased participation and accessibility the NUS Trans position is in a fairly shakey position in terms of it's ability to representat trans students. - The views expressed in this community may not be representative of the views of the NUS as a whole, and this is currently very much an unofficial blog by and for the student trans community.
- Try not to start arguments and don't use abusive language. Abuse (including but not limited to transphobia, sexism, ablism, homophobia, biphobia, sex-negativity and sexual harrassment) isn't appropriate anywhere but in places like this it specifically gets in the way of any attempts being made to sort out the state the world is in.
- As this community has at most an unofficial connection with the NUS for the time being and owing to the fact that trans students often come in and out of tuition, taking years out and switching courses in order to make "fresh starts", it will eventually be open to supporters of trans students in the NUS, and those who are going to become trans students. However, as this is an NUS-focused community those who aren't trans student NUS members won't be able to take part in the community beyond posting. And until this sort of thing is agreed to by a few more trans students than just
fobix we ask that people don't apply for membership if they're either not trans or not in NUS. - First and foremost this is an NUS-Trans-centric community, Trans Students in the UK is what we're talking about and that's what we're dealing with first. Secondary to that we've got young trans people's rights (if only because it has so much overlap with student trans issues) and then trans rights in general.
- Don't forget that not all trans people are transsexual or women. We encourage the involvement of trans people of all flavours, and the inclusion of male-identifying and/or female-assigned people (that is to say that trans men are very welcome, as are non-transsexual transpeople and your input is valued).
- Whilst the community may serve as a convenient tool for sharing ideas about what can be done for trans rights through the NUS LGBT campaign, the connection between this community and the NUS is (I repeat) UNOFFICIAL, and as such, any decision making that takes place is informal. Me and Emma obviously are working in our capacity as trans reps but this community has no real clout (other than that you can hold us accountable if we say we're doing something trans-students-rights-related and we don't do it).
