    toys.
    hey there.
The reason I am posting this here is because in the last few years these lj communities have done nothing but good for me, so this is me giving back.

    First, a bit about me..
I am currently 1 year and 6 months into medical transition. I take 100 mg of injectable testosterone every ten days. I am 3 months post chest reconstruction surgery. Since starting on hormones my entire sexual world has opened and my likes/dislikes have changed completely. With my ever changing body I am more in tune to explore and that's why I am here.. to share my experiences. Basically I took another job up.. testing out sex toys. I have created this on-line journal in order to post about toys I have tested in order to broaden a perspective from someone who identifies as FTM. There are many sex toys out there and the growing trans community seems to be at a loss as to what might better work for their bodies and minds. I would like to be another voice in the mix to help people who might need a reference. If you'd like to add me ([info]toys_for_t_boys) please feel free. I promise I wont fill your page with loads of crap, as I really only do about 3 reviews a week. Usually under cuts as to not take up too much space. anyway, I hope my reviews help in your search for the perfect toy!
ps. I just got started on this project so there really isn't much to read yet.

x-posted. Apologies if you see this a few times.

    FTM Surveys
Jamison Green the former President of FTMInternational is interested in the sexual health and satisfaction of all trans men, whether or not they have had hormones or surgery, and in the experiences of their partners. Two surveys are available for trans men and their partners to help with the research. He will use the data as raw material for a book, tentatively entitled "The FTM Guide to SEX," plus academic presentations and journal articles to educate medical and therapeutic service providers about trans lives.

    Colt's FTM Thesis Survey! Update
    Hey guys,

Based on preliminary results from the first study (over 500 guys, y'all rock!), I am now running a modified version of this study which is also looking into childhood gendered experiences (still has IRB approval). The new study is hopefully also easier to navigate. The good news for you is that if you wanted to participate, but were unable to because I closed the survey, you can participate now.

Even if you already participated, but wanted to re-take it or elaborate on your answers and want to be included in the new dataset (and yet another prize drawing!) you may participate again! Your participation will enter you into the drawing for the grand prize of $250. The results will be presented in the poster session at WPATH (formerly the Harry Benjamin Society) this summer in Norway!

    http://www.hostedsurvey.com/takesurvey.asp?c=Transmen

So basically, if you've already taken the survey last month, please re-take it...and if you never got around to taking it the first time around, please take it. Thanks guys!

Please send questions or comments directly to me: ftmresearch@gmail.com

cross posted everywhere, please pass this around to your FTM friends

    Research call for FTMs
Hello. I am working on the final stages of recruiting for my master's thesis. I will be presenting the data at APA (American Psychological Association) this summer and, if WPATH accepts me, I'll present there as well. Over 400 FTMs have participated so far and I am aiming for 500. Thanks!

Are you 18 or older? Do you currently identify as a female-to-male transgender or transsexual, or have identified as FTM in the past and now identify as male?
A self-identified transgender male, Stacey Colt Meier, is conducting a research study on persons who identify as transgender men. He is a doctoral student at the University of Houston and the results from this study will be used for his Master’s Thesis. The purpose of this research is to help inform clinicians about transgender males.
In order to qualify for this study you must be at least 18 years old. You do not need to be on hormones or have already had surgery to participate.
The study consists of an online questionnaire, which should take approximately 15 to 20 minutes to complete. The questions will assess basic demographic information as well as your mood over the last week, as well as your personal transitioning plans and experiences. You must read and agree to the consent form before filling out the survey. This study has been reviewed by the Committee for Protecting Human Subjects at the University of Houston.
If you complete the full survey, you can choose to be entered into a lottery for a chance to win $250 and ten chances to win $100. Click the link below to access the survey.

    Hey :)
    Hey everyone,

A very happy new year to you all!

My name is Imogen, I live in Cambridge UK. I was born female and am happy with my body but consider my self Gender Queer. I came out as gay at 14 (nearly wrote 144!!) and have been with my partner for a number of years now.

I am a photography student in Cambridge and I am just about to go into the final term of my 3rd year. I have covered quite a few topics over the last three years including self harm, mental health, eating disorders and physical disability. You can see some of my work here: Flickr or my own web site here: Indigo Clouds Photography

This term I want to do a project surrounding 'Gender Queer' and 'Transsexuality'. So I am looking for people who might want to be involved in the project. I will be hoping to photograph a few aspects of the topic including things like: following someone through aspects of their transition, photographing people with their families, following people to Dr's appointments, visiting and photographing both home & work, doing some studio shots (including partners, with/with out make up, in underwear etc) .. For helping me out you would get a copy of your images on a disk, a copy of your favorite 5 printed up to A2 and many many thank yous from me!

Having dealt with subjects that are often unknown to family members or friends I am more than happy for people to remain anonymous. As you can see from my self harm images most participants don't have their face in the images. I would like for some of those who wish to take part to be able to have their face in the images, purely due to the nature of the project.

I don't have any money to pay those who take part but I could help with travel costs if people are on a low income and I am more than happy to provide accommodation in the form of the sofa in my front room!

Please feel free to contact me with questions, anything you might like to know. Also, feel free to pass this post onto friends who might not see it on LJ or even to other communities. I would also like people to take part in a survey that will be part of the final project so if you would like to receive that you can get in touch.

Finally, during previous projects people have contacted me suggesting that aspects of the project might be highlighting the 'wrong' parts of the issues. I warmly welcome this contact and can only understand the subject to a point with out this source of information.

    My contact details:

    E mail - Imogen.Jo@Gmail.com
    Mobile - 0754 99 33 030

    Thank you for reading,
    Kind Regards,

    Imogen May

    Community-Based Participatory Research
      Hello!

I'm an undergraduate student at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Currently, I am working with various professors and graduate students in a collaborative project with representation from Pacific Pride Foundation, Gay and Lesbian Alliance of the Central Coast, UCSB, and community members. We are members and allies of the local lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, and are working to improve community support for LGBT individuals in Santa Barbara County and nearby areas.

We are currently looking for transgender individuals who live, work, or socialize in Santa Barbara County and nearby areas [Oxnard, Ventura, Lompoc, Santa Maria, and San Luis Obispo] to complete an anonymous and brief (10-15 minute) survey.

If you choose to participate, you will be asked to answer questions about issues, concerns, and strengths of the Central Coast LGBT community. Upon completion of the survey, you will receive a $5 coupon for amazon.com or have the option to make a donation to the charity of your choice.

If you are interested in participating, please follow this link [https://survey.ucsb.edu/communitysurvey]. From this secure website you can read about the survey, complete the survey, and get your coupon.

Let your voice be heard! Please feel free to forward this message to other members of the local LGBT community.

LGBT Community Collaborative of the Central Coast

    Much Appreciated & Best Wishes,

    Todd R. Avellar

Cross posted, only so I can get the word out
Hey guys, I don't know if this is allowed, but I made a new group for transmen in the BC area, so it would be easier to set up events and meetups to have fun, and possibly make friends with people who know what you're going through. It's for facebook, and here's the link!

    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=69363290096&ref=mf

If you know anyone who might be interested, that'd be cool if you passed it on. I have no trans friends here on the island, and I'd like to make some connections so I don't feel so alone on this less traveled road. Thanks again.

    Transphobia on Dr. Phil
It seems Dr. Phil likes to capitalize on transgender misunderstanding and hatred on his show.

"You fool me once shame on you, you fool me twice shame on me"

We must commit to no longer stand idly by as Dr. Phil continues his knack and enjoyment for stigmatizing trans folks.

More information and ways to take action here.

Might the "Bradley Effect" Also Hold True for Queer Issues?
Today's open forum is set to examine whether we may see something similar to the "Bradley effect" on queer issues in the upcoming election.
"The Bradley effect, less commonly called the Wilder effect, is a proposed explanation for observed discrepancies between voter opinion polls and election outcomes in some American political campaigns when a white candidate and a non-white candidate run against each other. Named for Tom Bradley, an African-American who lost the 1982 California governor's race despite being ahead in some voter polls, the Bradley effect refers to an alleged tendency on the part of some voters to tell pollsters that they are undecided or likely to vote for a black candidate, and yet, on election day, vote for his/her white opponent." (Wikipedia)
The "Bradley Effect" was a shocking dose of reality about the inconsistency of polls to determine how truthful people are about their voting decisions. It also went on to show the racial implications of the governor's race.

While it is now 26 years later, the notion of a "Bradley Effect" has resurfaced because Barack Obama, a bi-racial candidate is running for president of the United States of America. It is interesting to ponder whether people are indicating they will vote for the democratic ticket while in private will vote against it because of the racial implications.

I also wonder whether this can be applied to certain LGBT issues up on the ballot this Nov. 4th. There are marriage amendments in California, Arizona, and Florida this year. There is also the question of a constitutional convention in Connecticut and a ban on adoption by unmarried co-habitating couples in Arkansas. All of these referendums hold major implications for Americans straight and gay.

People opposed to gay rights often argue that they "have gay friends" or are "not bigoted against gays." It has become increasingly unpopular to be associated with "homophobia." Is it possible there is a segment of the population that claims they will vote against these marriage amendments and in favor of LGBT rights while secretly espousing another point of view to hide their own fear of being labeled a bigot?

    Been lurking
    Hey there
I just read some of your post. I have a similar story. My parents were willing to put me through college under a condition that I will retain my virginity for the husband ( oh, the GREAT prize now, isn't it!) and marry and have kids. This was always how they say  condition sin qua non. I found out when the police supervision of my virginity became impossible (on top of many other odd things in my parents behavior). I run away at 18, like many of us do here, and lived my life as it goes. Throughout some future time, my parents made an effort to reach out, in response to mine, and offered me college tuition. Tuition came with ropes attached: female dress, attire, order to 'stop this shit' ('shit' here meaning being who I was, a gay transsexual male!), marry, be fruitful and multiply. When I tried to explain to my parents my situation, my mom would always meanly smirk and say: well then, you are an adult male, why do you need our college money for? So they just took my money, the ones they've been saving since I left them, and gave lots of it to cousins, cousins and more cousins. Now I have nothing against cousins: god bless them all. Only I am now without education, stranded, almost contemplating a career in sex industry (like many of my trans brothers and sisters do you know) and well, wasting my time and life fighting at the levels where I will make no difference whatsoever and will get swallowed up by the system.
I passionately love learning, college, interaction on the subjects of metaphysics, mathematics, philosophy, space, sci-fi, current events. If people want to check me out, drop a note, be a friend and perhaps well, give an advice or two how to go about not loosing my mind and pushing through all this crap around, that'd be much appreciated. I am in NYC, so far I had witnessed some shit happening to alt, anarchist, goth and punk communities, we kind of seem to be largely outnumbered by mundane and normal, not to even mention real practicing pagans.
Peace ya all and the person who inspired this post, princegold, heads up!

    Hello
    Just saying hello.

My father very much wanted me to be a girl and he very much as a female wanted to put me through college. When I turned out to be a boy, my mother (the control figure) didn't want this and revoked all my priveledges.

I still intend to go back to school even though I have some very real mental health problems. I am depressive type schizoaffective and I have obsessive compulsive disorder.

I have tried to work and live and have at a minium but I am in counseling with a wonderful homosexual male like myself whom I can talk to about all my problems. It's hard for me to have female counselors and I can usually only emotionally relate with men.

I have a male partner for a year whom is very supportive and I am dealing with his child rights and human rights. I am just looking for more friends. I realize that alot of people are close-minded about me because I have mental health problems and because I am gay and trans but they are out there.

I am just looking for more friend connections.

    Confused By Women
I have gotten real confused over my niece and I don't think I have handled some it well.

I never suspected any woman would want to be protected.

What I have thought I knew about women must be wrong.

Many women seem to thrive, get off on and like being victims. I figure there must be alot of masochistic women but certainly as many masochistic men.

I should have told my niece in the past that I would protect her because that is what she wanted to hear from me. She wanted to hear that she is weaker than men, when in all actuality smaller is no disadvantage of all and women are no weaker than men.

Her lesbian victim, weaker stance confused me considering she is a violent dangerous personality.

It's kind of like how people mispercieve men as being dangerous so many times. I have never been affraid of a man in my life. I have always seen them as much more immature and weaker spiritually than all the years that I have had to fight against women for my real self.

     Hi there,
My name is jaime, I'm 22 years and sort of out, sort of closeted... I'm out about being gender variant somewhere on the ftm spectrum. But not out about being GAY or Bisexual. No one knows that part yet. I allude to it sometimes but only as a joke.
I've only dated 2 people so far and they've all been women. I'm only just coming to terms with the fact that in general...women do not turn me on physically...I mean in a BIG way...unless I'm...you know..interested in the first place.

But..guys..they really do make me interested without me even trying. I always thought that kind of thing didn't matter. That it was love etc that mattered which is why I never dated guys.

So well, this is something I want to explore.

Right now I'm chatting with a bioguy I met online, I'll see where that takes me (hopefully a safe and sane place). I'm keeping a log of this encounter in my journal.

eh, it's kind of scary. The only guy I know anything about is myself and I don't think that counts. We're going on a date soon and I've never been on a date with a guy...I don't think it's the same as with a girl. But I don't want to make assumptions and not be as PC as possible.

Anyway, more info on me: Pre op, pre t and not really wanting either. Well, I would love to naturally have a flat chest and testosterone, but I'm one of those people that can't stand hospitals and grew up thinking doctors and surgery and etc were 'evil'...I dont even like vaccines. I'm afraid of medically changing anything about me. I almost died from tonsilitis because I wouldn't go to a doctor and get some penicillin...

    :sigh:

On a good note, I'm a marine science geek and I love to read. I also like to people watch.
