| Status Update |
[Feb. 16th, 2009|10:43 pm] |
Sorry for the long silence. Things have been slow going due to: 1. RL; and 2. the fact that the hosting company's in Denmark, Jean's in UK, and I'm in Australia and all emails from the hosting company is in Danish, which means Jean has had to translate and get back to me about it as due to RL situation, she does not have a lot of time to deal with the website issues.*
Anyway, long story short. The annual invoice they sent out went missing from our (the admins') email and none of us got it. This means the site wasn't paid for and they suspended it. We have the money, which some of you have kindly donated, sitting in a paypal account, now it's just paying it.
I'm right now in the middle of sorting through it, and once again, it's slow since Danish is not a language that I remotely understand and I have to get stuff translated and make sure I'm clicking the right buttons for payment. I'm hoping that they haven't cleaned out their server memory and the site's still stored on it so once payment's gone through, it'll be back up.
* This is also the reason why we have been looking for someone for the last 2-3 years to take over the day to day running of the site. Since we finished university and started working, neither Jean nor I have the time and/or energy to be dealing with the site. Right now, it's almost 11pm my time and I'd rather be in bed. I only got home from work at 8pm after spending almost 11 hours at the office, and to be completely honest, this is the last thing I want to be dealing with, but it has to be done.
While the site practically runs itself most days, we need someone on board who's able to answer questions from fellow members and deal with the general administrative side of things like paying for the hosting and make sure the site stays up etc. You don't need HTML or a lot of computer/technical skills for it, just the time and desire to help keep the site up. So please, someone, anyone, let me know if you can help. Just reply to this entry. |

| Site Down |
[Jan. 20th, 2009|07:18 pm] |
I am aware that the site is down. Currently trying to find out what's going on. Hopefully the entire site hasn't been deleted by the server like they almost did the last time. Fingers crossed and I'll let everyone know what's happening once I know what's happening.
Thank you for your understanding. |

[Jan. 20th, 2009|05:12 pm] |

There's been a couple of messages on the Cha-club message board today about people not being able to access the website. I've just checked and I can't either. I know I did last week, but can't remember what day. |

| Fic request |
[Jan. 22nd, 2008|02:44 pm] |
| [ | Current Mood |
| | frustrated | ] | Hello, I don't know if it's okay to do this here - if it's not please delete this and accept my apologies - but I'm revisiting this fandom after many years, looking up some of my old favourites. However, one story alludes me. I can't recall the author but I seem to remember the title was maybe Dream Angel or something.
All I can remember is that Tom had landed himself in trouble (again) and was going be forced into having sex with one of his alien captors as punishment for his crime (I think maybe he was falsely accused by a jealous husband.) There's some concern he won't survive as the alien's sperm is acidic or some such; Voyager manages to negotiate the punishment being carried out by a crew member - Chakotay.
There was an unfinished sequel that continues the story after the punishment (which takes place in a room on the alien planet with the aliens watching - they were possibly bird like?). I don't think the sequel was ever completed.
Forgive the long ramble, but does any one else remember this?
Kind regards, Es |

| Donations Pleas and Search for New Admin |
[Dec. 11th, 2007|09:14 pm] |
It's been a while since either Jean or I have posted. RL have been kicking our butts and it doesn't seem to be letting up. The payment for the server space and domain is due again soon, and I just realised we have $50AUD left from the last drive (once again a big THANK YOU to those who donated the last time). So now I'm sending out another plea for donations to help keep this site up and running. All payments large or small would be much appreciated and can be done through PayPal here. Both Jean and I are in the middle of a house/moving crisis and just can't afford the extra cash for it.
Also, with the both of us being so busy, and Jean being out of the fannish circles for a while, we need a new admin. If you cannot offer cash, but have time and skills, we're looking for you! Someone with more technical skills than I have to take over the technical aspect of things. While I can do basic HTML, PHP and database skills are beyond me and I just don't have the time to learn it. I'm actually having some trouble getting into the TPD FTP servers at the moment, but once that is sorted, I am actually thinking of finding another host once the term on this place expires. One that is easier to handle and offer a bit more space and bandwidth, and the new admin will have to be able to move the whole archive over to the new server and get things running. If anyone wishes to volunteer, please let me know!
So, that is for this issue of update. Hope everyone have a great Christmas and New Year! |

| TPD Status |
[May. 13th, 2007|09:22 am] |
Hey guys, apparently the server we were on decided to switch servers without telling us hence none of the php are working at the moment. All the contents on the site are still there, just that the script is not working. We're fixing the problem now, but I'm not sure how long it's going to take since it's a rather tedious process and RL is leaving us knackered most of the time, but it will be fixed ASAP.
Jean has also let the provider know exactly how she felt about the no warning, so hopefully this won't happen again.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we sort this out.
As I am not on any other Voy lists/coms out there, would appreciate if someone could get the word out to the other list if possible.
Thank you. |

| Fairy Tales Challenge |
[Mar. 3rd, 2007|07:02 pm] |
First challenge of 2007. Was tempted to make this an Easter challenge, but we've done that before. Since I'm sorta attempting to put out a multi-fandom zine with a friend this easter, and the theme of the zine is fairy tales, I thought why not?
So here it is, Fairy Tales. Retelling of a popular fairy tales in a Voy setting, fairy tale AUs, Tom's favourite fairy tale as a child, whatever you can think of! As long as it relates to Fairy Tales (and Tom Paris, but that's a given) in some form or another, it's good to go!
No min or max length, so be it a drabble or an epic, it's up to you! Deadline is 30 April 2007, whichever side of the world you're on.
Questions? No? The go forth and create tales of winged fairies with blonde hair! :D |

| Christmas, Holiday, Shore Leave Challenge! |
[Dec. 2nd, 2006|03:39 pm] |
I can't believe it's December already. RL has been not quite kind and it's only going to get worse. But since neither Jean and I have been posting anything, thought I'd just pop by and tell you we're still around, just really really REALLY busy.
Since Xmas is just around the corner, thought I'd issue a Christmas/shore leave/holiday challenge. Our favourite pilot on shore leave, the Paris clan celebrating Christmas, Delta aliens' take on the holiday! Whatever that tickles your fancy! As long as it's holiday, shore leave and or Christmas related! Deadline's Christmas day, which means you have up to 11:59PM on 25 December 2006.
Feel free to spread the challenge around! And go forth and have fun! |

| Trouble logging in to TPD |
[Aug. 4th, 2006|08:36 am] |
Fot the past week, including just now, when I've tried to log in to TPD in the mornings, I get a message telling me I'm not authorized to view this page. The two times I've had time to try again in the evening (Melbourne time) I had no trouble. It's very strange. Has anyone else reported any trouble logging in?

| Recomended reading list |
[Apr. 4th, 2006|09:14 pm] |
Hey guys,
I think it's time to update the recomended reading list on the site again. It's been a while. Problem is, I haven't been that active in the fandom lately and haven't read that many fics. So, your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to come up with a list of fics you've enjoyed. Preferably some newer ones too, we don't want to just recycle the few old classics! There's nothing wrong with them, but we need some new blood, so to speak. ;)
Of course, you can still rec older fics, by all means! I just want to make sure all the bases are covered. :)
So, give me your fav fic, your fav series, etc. Gen, slash, het, multi-pairing, send'em over! |

TPD Easter Bunny Challenge! |
[Mar. 28th, 2006|10:03 pm] |
I've issued an Easter Bunny Challenge for the TPD.
Now that Easter is not far away, thought I'd issue an Easter themed challenge. Any fic featuring Easter (and Tom of course!) is welcome! They could be explaining holiday to Neelix, or Neelix could've done some digging on his own and found the long forgotten tradition, or Q turned up and instead of Tribbles, Voyager was infested with multiplying bunnies! So, go forth and write! :D
And now to add a little extra dimension to things, anyone wishing to submit artwork/manips for the challenge is also more than welcome to post them on this community. Feel free to spread the word of the challenge! Think about it, Tom and fluffy cutie bunny! ;)
And people, feel free to post in this community. I'm thinking of making this a place for fic recs and discussions as well, if there are enough people who are interested. |

| X'mas Challenge! |
[Nov. 25th, 2005|10:40 pm] |
Many thanks to Mandy and Darksusie for their submission in the last challenge! And also a great big thanks you to those of you who continue to donate funds to the TPD!! *big hugs!!*
Since X'mas is about a month away, thought I'd do a X'mas challenge. Rules are simple, pick 4 things from the list below and include in your X'mas themed story/snippet/novel etc. Like I said, simple. :D
1. Maple syrup
2. Vegemite
3. Big Ben (the clock tower in London, yes)
4. Penguins
5. Aladdin's lamp (with or without Jeannie, up to you)
6. Stonehenge
7. The phrase "Oh. My. God. It's an EGG!"
8. Llama
9. UFO
10. Santa
11. Zombies, and last of all
12. The phrase "Get that... that THING away from me!"
There's the list! Go forth and have fun!! And come on! More than 2 people this time! Please??

| Oct/Nov Challenge |
[Oct. 8th, 2005|01:50 am] |
Now that the crisis is over, both online and in my RL, figured it's time to have some fun! :) I originally wanted to do a Halloween challenge, but thought that 3 weeks might be a little short, so I'm combining it with something else, if someone wants to take it and make it a Halloween thing, go for it!
I'm taking a page out of the voyager_week old challenges that they use to have where a word is picked every week for people to respond to. The challenge today, boys and girls, is "lamp".
It can be about a lamp, it could simply feature a lamp in the story somewhere, like Tommy getting hit in the head with one (*wince*), it could be told from the lamp's POV, or it could be as simple as a lamp being mentioned somewhere in the fic.
Since it's a 2in1 challenge, those who wants to go for the Halloween one, it's due on Halloween, for those who think they can't finish it by then, deadline is 15 November. Post it here, post it on the site, as long as you post it somewhere in these 2 places, it's fine.
So, go forth and write!
And feel free to pass this message on to anyone/anywhere else that might be interested. :) |

Passing on a message from Jeanette:
Wow, don't even know what to say...
When I paid for everything last year before moving to England, I had thought that everything would be okay with the TPD and I didn't have to worry about anything. I left Genie in charge of controlling everything but the one thing I was still in charge of was being the official owner of the domain and the web-hotel. So imagine to my surprise when I completely by coincidence checked out the TPD on the day it went down. Have to confess now that I probably check in on it once a month or so, have no internet at home sadly enough and hardly any time at work for it. Usually it wouldn't concern me much, would just check the IP location instead but everything just seemed to be gone - completely.
E-mailed the host quite quickly early that morning and was happy to see a swift reply, what I wasn't happy about was the reply they gave me. "You haven't responded to any of our mails nor paid the bills for the added charges." I had no idea about any mails of any kind or any extra bills, had I known we'd have sorted it out (most likely moved everything while there was time to somewhere cheaper) but as I had apparently (according to them) ignored paying the bills and then also ignored the reminders for the bills they had shut it all down. Now, back when I moved I informed them of my new address but apparently they have still been sending it to the old address but yet they weren't anymore lenient towards us. It was either pay the bill + the extra fees for late pay and then have the webhotel re-opened, or they would delete the back-up within 48 hours.
I must confess that I was very close to just saying "oh well, that's life" and let it be as I knew I was nowhere in any financial position to pay. I just finished my degree (did well btw) and while I have a job it doesn't pay that well yet as I currently only have a junior position and I am pretty much just making it due from one paycheck to another. At first we thought we had more time, thus the message was send out that it would be back up in due time when we had the money but as facts were that it would be COMPLETELY gone so it was either cough up or let so many years worth of work and so many stories disappear. While I might not use the TPD myself much, it is my baby, my pride and joy - and all of yours as well. I wouldn't have kept it running for so long if it hadn't been for all of you, authors as well as readers.
I made the decision to take half a day off to sort out some money, scrap it all together and five minutes after paying I did regret it slightly but I don't regret it all right now. It honestly makes me quite close to tears to realise how much you all want it and care for it as well, Genie can even testify that I jokingly first said that she was welcome to do a donation but that I didn't think anyone would participate. It embarrasses me how wrong I could be.
I don't even know how to say thank you enough times, and I now feel really stupid for even for a brief second having considered just to let it pass.
You should all thank Genie for running the TPD as well as she does. If Genie chooses not to take over the financial side of the site, are there anyone else willing to do it?
Thank you again so much for showing your appreciation of the TPD, it makes me unbelievably happy to know that while I can't sit around reading fanfic whenever I want or go on to the TPD, at least all of you are enjoying it.
Thank you again and again and again, can't say it enough. Wish I was a lot more articulate, don't think this thank you note brings enough justice to how greatful I really am.
Wish you all the best, may the TPD keep running forever!
Sincerely, Jeanette |
