Card Info: Insectivores & Lapines
The card info on the insectivores is veery very general and I aplogise for that, but it's the best I could come up with. Thanks again to Thaily for helping me out. Please tell me if those are ok. There might be spelling mistakes and such, for which I apologise in advance. InsectivoresMost insectivores can be found on African and Australian soil. They are mostly solitary and active during night time. They are bizarre and shy creatures that are hard to observe. As the name tells their diet consits only of ants and other small insects such as termites for example. Insectivores, especially anteaters represent curiosity and nosiness. They have the ability to sniff out things and find lost things. They are also lethargic and egoistic, unwilling to bow to the rules of a community. LapinesHares and rabbits are small herbivores found in almost all areas of the world. Commonly misplaced into the category of rodents the specifiy a family of their own. Wild rabbits are in general very social creatures, living in subterran colonies. They have been domesticated first in 16th century and have climbed up in status from fur and meat deliverer to beloved pet and companion. Rabbits are often associated with fertility, luck and tricksterism. Unlike their cousins hares are usually solitary and don’t live subterran. They represent speed, energy and passion as well as indepence and intelligence. They are also known to be jealous and quarrelsome. | 9:10 am [ashalinds_ashes]

Totem Info
I am posting this here, because I am not sure who to send it to. Sorry it took so long. Platypus Totem The platypus is a very unusual and rare creature and a very powerful water totem to have.Water can be attributed to the subconscious and the mysterious, therefore people who have this totem are investigative and curious. During mating the platypi grab each others tails and swim in a circle. This is a symbol of wholeness and people with this totem have strong life lessons associated with completion. Sphinx Totem The sphinx is a totem of cunning and strength, making it an ideal guardian. People with this totem are often quite protective of themselves and others and make good secret keepers. They are both loyal and fierce and the many forms the sphinx has taken in different cultures suggests that people with the totem are very versatile. | | Sunday, May 25th, 2008 | 4:56 pm [bloodhoundomega]

Help with Booklet Blurb?
Hey there! Due to lack of time and knowledge where to get the specific information I am asking you guys for help here. I don't know for the love of my life where to find decent information about spiritual or symbolical or any deeper meaning about the insectivores I drew. Numbat, Giant Anteater, Echidna & Aardvark --> http://bloodhound-omega.deviantart.com/art/Pathfinders-Card-Anteaters-39999032I think I can recover the info I had collected about the lapines and make a booklet text out of that, but I truly need your help with the anteaters et al. Could anybody lend me helping hand there? Please? Current Mood: stressed | | Thursday, May 15th, 2008 | 5:41 pm [laken_steeljaw]

ATTN ProFox and Balaa!
As requested I modified the card back and the card border to fit with the rounded edges. It should fit much cleaner now, and allow the card art to be larger. Here's the catch (there's always one of these, isn't there?)- Due to some technical difficulty that resulted in much swearing, I wasn't able to get a workable .EPS or .AI vector file. I do, however, have two very clean, and very large, .PNG files. I don't foresee this being a problem, except for maybe the border. If .PNG files absolutely won't work, I'll keep messing with it. But so far any attempts to get anything vectored has ended in smoldering wreckage. Please let me know where to send the new files so we can get this done! My card info in case you didnt get it:) Small mammals Small mammals are often overlooked and some classed as pests, however their totems are strong, From the tiny mouse, who teaches us to be cautious in life and not to be wasteful, he is thoughtful and doesn’t make decisions lightly, to the rat, a creature often misunderstood who teaches us to be both social and resourceful, the rat is seen as adaptable and able to cope under pressure. However the shrew, one of the tiniest mammals is thought to symbolize a dark side to a person, yet also a strong determination and drive to succeed, whereas the capybara, the worlds largest rodent, could be said to symbolize nurture and social ness from the way they care for their young. Lastly the endangered bilby, a marsupial found in Australia and a relation to the bandicoot family is said to symbolize loss of soul and desperation, appearing at the moment of crisis or at the end to signify better times are coming, a symbol of courage and survival with strong family bonds. i couldnt think of a way to shorten it, as there are 5 different totems on my card posted here as not sure my emails have been getting through. | | Thursday, April 17th, 2008 | 3:11 pm [ellenmillion]

Pathfinders Webpage
Okay, I've updated the webpage again with current artist information, and all of the links that were supplied in reply to my last post. http://pathfindersdeck.comBooklet question: have the funds already been allotted for it? I really want to see this project move forward, and I will do the remaining research if it needs to be done and no one else can. | | Thursday, March 20th, 2008 | 9:48 am [sandrabong]

Domestic Cat and Lemurs
I read that some editing was to be done on the write-ups, so I thought I'd repost mine here to let the community make suggestions. If its gone to press already, forgive the post! ;) Lemurs The lemurs of Madagascar have evolved independantly from their primate cousins to become truely unique animals. Lemurs can be found both day and night, with each species having evolved to fill every niche from ground to tree tops. Lemurs are matriarchial-ie the females are in comtrol/ Most live in large social groups of extended family. The word lemur is derived from the latin 'lemures' meaning 'spirits of the night' or 'ghosts'. Lemurs were most likely named thus from the chilling calls they make, especially the Indri lemur. The first visitors to the island thought spirits and spectres of the dead roamed the forests! (for lemurs in the trees are hard to spot except for the occasional spooky eyeshine!) Card meanings Upright Surrounded and supported by friends and family. Good fortune. Mysteries revealed. A clear life path. Reversed Omens, bad luck, ill fortune. Feeling haunted and alone. Loss of friends and family. Hidden path. Confusion. Secrets. Pictured in the card-clockwise from bottom- Ring-tail, Red Ruffed, Grey Gentle, Aye-Aye, Indri, and Crowned Lemurs. Domestic Cats The cat has been worshipped as a god and villified as a deamon. This extreme contrast is reflected in the very nature of the domestic cat of today. A beloved pet purring in a sunbeam becomes a prolific predator at sundown, with over 1000 prey species to choose from! Scholars now believe the cat is a self-domesticating animal decent from the desert/African Wildcat of the Middle East. As agricultural villages developed, vermin of all types were attracted. The wildcats followed their prey into the villages and quickly became valued companions. The Egyptian cat-goddess Bast is protector of hearth and home and the fields which support it. She is a goddess of joy, pleasure, fertility, music and dance. She is also protector of mothers and children. Cats have long been associated with magic, luck, the sun and the moon, sexuality and fertility. Upright Lifes comforts and pleasures. Home, family, good fortune. Contentment. Your household is in order. Magic, dreams coming true. Healing. Success in what you put your efforts to. The addition of family members, both immediate and extended. Sit back and enjoy the sunbeam! Reversed Unsettled home or homelessness. Travel. Need for cleverness. Aggression. Unpredictable times ahead. Arch your back, fuzz your tail and take a defensive position! Pictured on the card Siamese, Persian and Abyssinian. Kittens- Maine Coon, Burmese and (sleeping) Scottish Fold If anyone has any suggestions, post them please! Hopefully it'll help with the editing! Thanks much-S Current Mood: as normal... | | Wednesday, March 19th, 2008 | 1:40 pm [ellenmillion]

Webpage renewal...
Okay, folkses! I've done a very, very basic run-through and purged a bunch of old stuff out of the webpage. I will be doing a more comprehensive job later-ish and turning it into .php with an external .css file, headers and footers, etc., so it's easier to update. I'd also - if there are no objections! - like to do a bit of a re-write of the text. I'll post what I come up with here for review. Additionally, the contact form does not appear to be working. It was still going to Watergazer previously, so I suspect any correspondence in the interim has been lost, alas... I'll make replacing that a priority. (If, like me, you had forgotten the address, is it pathfindersdeck.com) Profox - can I get a current list of artists and their cards? Or just point me towards it... I went back a few pages in the community and couldn't find it. Any other graphics or goodies that you'd like added, let me know now. Do we know our final sales price? I will need copies of all the cards if we will be posting all of them - or would you prefer to have just a few samples as we have now? I definitely would like a copy of the card backs and box if we have it. The rest of yous - if you want a link listed at the site, please post it below! IE: Ellen Million - link to ellenmillion.com Please give thought to how you want your name listed, including capitals - I will repeat it exactly as you list it. Ie: Watergazer or watergazer. | | Wednesday, March 5th, 2008 | 1:05 pm [wolfsjal]

Panda and Rhino
I'm sorry this took so long... I just finished moving and other fun chaotic things. But here are the blurbs for my two cards; Panda and Rhinoceros. Let me know if I should email this somewhere or if it's fine just posted here. :) ~Wolfsjäl Rhinoceros: Inner and Ancient Wisdom, Strength, Durability, Patience, the Ability to Discriminate. There are five species of rhino, all of which are endangered. They are the White Rhino and Black Rhino of Africa, and the Indian, Javan, and Sumatran Rhinos of Asia. They are a comparatively ancient creature, having not evolved much since prehistoric times. The rhinoceros gives birth to one young at a time, and has a very long gestation period (17 to 18 months). This means that Rhino can help us to learn how to bring a project or idea to fruition after careful consideration. Rhino can remind us that sometimes we must wait a long time to see the results of our efforts. Rhinos are powerful animals, and though they have poor eyesight, their hearing and sense of smell is keen. Thus Rhino is also associated with strength -- particularly inner strength -- and teaches us that we can learn to discriminate even when things are not as they appear to be. Panda: Polarity, Balance, Ability to See Unseen, Adaptability, Playful Kindness, Patience. Pandas are generally solitary creatures. Both the Giant Panda and the Red (or Lesser) Panda are good climbers, and can be symbolic of being able to see clearly without being seen. Despite the fact that Pandas should essentially be carnivorous, both species eat plants almost exclusively; particularly bamboo. So Panda can teach us about adaptability and the wisdom of learning from our environment. The black and white Giant Panda is representative of polarity and balance, and both Pandas have distinct mask markings in their fur, reminding us to think about ways in which we might be using masks in our own lives. The Red Panda is sometimes also known as a 'Fire Fox,' and like their larger relatives they can show us the importance of slow, deliberate movements and setting a suitable pace. | | Saturday, February 16th, 2008 | 2:24 pm [profox]

Update time
Alright, update time! #1 - card descriptions Everybody should have received an email from Balaa asking for the descriptions. If you don't have that mail, say so! #2 - web site Davuu reminded me that our web page is woefully out of date. Anybody with a Dreamweaver license feel up to taking this one on? #3 - status Everything is in, accounted for and paid up. As soon as Balaa has finished the booklet, box and proof, we're printing :) That's all for now. I hope to give you more frequent updates, but when there's nothing to say, what can I say... ;-) Cheers, The Fox Current Mood: accomplished | | Thursday, February 14th, 2008 | 11:26 pm [davuu]

Breaking the silence
...at least for a short while. balaa - I can't seem to reach you, no mail goes thru. Could be a problem at my end, all I am getting lately is offers for Viagra and nigerian stocks. Ahem. Not sure whether I will have the opportunity to go online, so this is the last post from me until after new year. Balaa, Foxfeather, please update the community with your current progress. Tamen, Watergazer, do you still want to submit, or is that on hold now? That's all from me. May you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I hoped it would never come to this, but I guess our cozy little forum is no exception from the rest wrt drama. Everyone is free to write whatever they want, but please, keep things on topic. If you have issues with something, come to me first. Mail address is in the community description. Custom booklet
As it turns out, the printing company we are getting the decks done through DOES offer custom booklets as an option. My assumption after looking at their site was that they dealt primarily with regular poker type playing cards, but I was wrong :). Now the thing that must be decided by the community in order for us to get a reasonably accurate quote for the extra cost to cover the booklets is the following: Size: ie physical dimensions based on the following> *Do we want it to fit into the box with the cards? *Make it slightly bigger than the deck and just bundle the two? Now there are pros and cons to each of the above. Con to the smaller booklet, it may need to be more pages to leave the info on each page readable, plus making the smaller booklet fit into the already small box will add that much more size to the tuck box which in turn also costs extra. Cons to the bigger booklet obviously could be cost, though this may not necessarily be the case if we go with a slightly bigger book but have a smaller # of pages. Number of pages we will need Do we want to dedicate a seperate page to each card or try to fit 2 cards info per page to minimize the number of pages? Obviously the higher the number of pages, the higher the cost. Color choices: Options are; full color inside and out, color outside & B&W inside, all black and white Currently there are 84 cards in the lineup to be printed, this may go down by a few. So if we were to dedicate 1 page to 2 cards, that would make the booklet 42 pages, or 21 pages (back and front) + 2 pages for the cover (optionally + pages for credits?). I think I have that right! That's the basic nitty gritty of it. I have told Profox, I will happily design the booklet, if the end quote we receive is reasonable and we can all live with the extra costs. But in order to get the estimate of cost, we will need the info above so I can give it to the printers. So the forum is open to discussion! If I overlooked anything, please speak your concerns!**On a personal side note, I will be hard to reach for about a week starting Thursday. I am not sure if I will have any internet access, but I am assuming not at this point.** | | Tuesday, September 25th, 2007 | 5:22 pm [xxbalaaxx]

Booklet alternative?
I have been conversing back and forth with Profox on the editing work for the deck and in the process stumbled across a few ideas. Profox suggested I present the ideas your way so the community can be involved in the decision making process, as is only fair! Now the first thing that I have been milling over and over about is how to include credits to all the artists involved in the deck. I imagine buyers will want to know who did what work...and the artists involved deserve the credit! I recall seeing mention in the community journals of a compilation cd including all the artworks and descriptions. But the idea of going to a cd just to find out who did what piece seems a bit cumbersome, certainly not outrageously unreasonable, but still. So the first idea I had was adding the title of each species to the front of the card along with the creating artist. Or alternatively, as I have seen done in other decks, include an additional card listing each card and the creating artist. However, since this deck IS larger than others, a problem with this would be making sure all the species/artists names fit on a single card. Also since this is not a playing card deck and will be lacking suits/numbers, each card should still be labeled in some way to identify it..for those not extremely versed in their animal species ;). The other idea I came across came after I purchased another animal themed tarot deck online. Instead of a standard back for each card, the species, creating artist and description of the species could be printed on the back of each card. This would make immediate referencing a LOT easier for people that do intend to use the card for any sort of spiritual guidance. It would also mean we would not require an external booklet or even cd (though a cd is still a fun idea to incorporate imo :) ) Of course, a single template will be used for each card, hopefully still unifying the deck on some level. The one downside to this choice is we would be losing the gorgeous card back design created by Laken, though I could try to incorporate her design into the template. So what do you guys think? Feedback and ALL ideas are welcomed and encouraged! If you guys want an example of what I mean, I will mockup something quickly! As a sidebar I have been working up a random advertisement page for the deck..it doesn't really have any specific relevance and isn't yet done (I'd like to add example cards, a text excerpt etc)..but thought I'd share it just the same: ( rough ad page ) | 1:19 pm [tamen]

Missing Cards/Payments
Soooo. It seems some folks are still behind on payments and such. I'm willing to take/pay for another card, since I have some free time, and would be more than happy to take something that someone else is unable to complete in interest to get the deck closer to being finished. -Tamen |
