Toronto Fireworks
I've had the pleasure of seeing most of the fireworks displays at Ontario Place since I was a young buck since I've grew up in a condo with a view. Maybe it's one of those things where when you're young things seem bigger but I've seen other fireworks displays around the world and I found this weekend's attempt at celebration with fireworks to be quite average. I've been to much smaller cities that have put on quite impressive fireworks displays.

What do others think of our fireworks displays? Would you like to see more money invested into holiday fireworks? How much do you enjoy them? Do you make special trips to see the fireworks?

I'd like them so much more if sitting on the beach watching them didn't involve morons shooting roman candles at one another (and at random people on the beach).

It's a lot of money to spend for a city that's already in financial trouble. I guess corporate sponsorship takes away some of that, but I have a feeling our tax dollars are involved somehow....

Doesn't make sense to me that some small (and in some cases impovrished) cities I've been to manage to gather the scratch to fund some truely miraculous fireworks displays.

Undoubtably our tax dollars are involved. I guess I'm one who wishes more tax dollars were used. =o)

Ummm, no. There's enough money wasted on that as it is.

Why do you feel money is being wasted on it, or rather, that it's a waste of money (albeit not a complete waste by how I read your reply)?

I only care when it really counts... Canada Day! And while we're at it, Toronto should funnel all their fireworks budget to Ottawa... :D

How would you feel if Ottawa gave Toronto money for more fireworks?

I actually don't really understand the appeal of them. I've seen enough that unless they manage to make a sparkly Jesus appear, I couldn't care less.

It's a rare enough event and I think lots of people go because the kids seem to like stuff that blows up and is all flashy pretty colours. =o)

I almost never bother with organized firework displays. My husband and I live near Viewmount Park, where a lot of families just gather and fire off their own stuff. It's a lot more fun than standing in a big crowd, even though there are morons who pretend they don't notice you standing next to ground zero before lighting three Roman Candles at once.

I thought that they were a little lame this year. Very low to the ground and not as big as they usually are.

I love fireworks. The more money the better! Take it out of the salaries of councillors

I think we need them MUCH more often so that you dont get 3 million people at the beach all at the same time. Also, how about having them in SUMMER?!??!!?!? It was extremely cold at the beach yesterday afternoon so I didnt bother going back. Even july first is too early in the season when you're near the lake.

Lets have them every 2-3 weekends from through july and august so not everyone tries to go to every one of them, and we'll have warmer weather and a better change to have 1 or 2 without rain.

I love fireworks! I always go. Last night, it took me 1.5 hours to get to Ashbridges Bay and 2.5 hours to get home. Still worth it.

I love your enthusiasm!!! Why dos it take so long to get to Ashbridges Bay and so long to get back home? Do you live in Nunavut?

I live at Bathurst and Wilson. i walk to the corner, take the wilson bus to york mills station, take the subway south to bloor, transfer to the danforth line, take the subway east to coxwell, wait for the bus which goes to queen and walk in.

coming back, there's so much traffic that even after you eventually get on a bus with another 80 thousand people, it just sits for a very long time.

Sometimes i feel like i live in Nunavut.
