More West Wing/Studio 60
I noticed, and [info]truthbealiar did too, in tonight's episode of Studio 60 the name of a familiar legal firm.

The blonde lawyer on tonight's 60 works for Gage Whitney, the same firm Sam Seaborn worked for on The West Wing before working with the President.

This is more proof that Sorkin loves to recycle names and dialogue. Again on 60 tonight, Matt's assistant said "I go home when you go home." Which is just as lovely a sentiment now as when Margaret said it to Leo on The West Wing.

Now, it's impossible to reconcile President Bush with President Bartlett - but Munch dealing with alien conspiracies on The X Files doesn't exactly fit in neatly with Homicide either...

Still not connected to Tommy, though.

ETA: The OC/Grey's Anatomy connection in thread... (also Non-Tommy so far...)

I think it would have been especially funny if, throughout the episode, people kept forgetting the name of the law firm.

The flashback episode of the West Wing where they showed how Josh got Sam to leave the law firm, he kept having to show up at the law firm to talk to Sam because he couldn't remember the name of it and couldn't look it up in the phone book.

Another two that are connected but not YET connected to Tommy are The OC and Grey's. Summer's dad left LA to go up to Seattle to work at Seattle Grace.

So if either of those are pulled in, they are both pulled in.

Veronica Mars is a bit connected to the OC, I think: Something to do with VM being set in "Balboa County," and one or two other references. From there, it's on to Tommy.

By the way, can I suggest two more exceptions to be listed in the rules?

1. Characters from one show watching another on TV. (Harsh Realm on the X-Files, etc.)

2. Sets of actors appearing on another show- The Jeffersons on Lois and Clark, Cosby Show-Cosby, etc.

I don't think those need to be made formal exceptions, given that neither of them constitute one show existing in another universe.

Until I knew of Westphall I always thought that people watching tv shows on other shows made them very MUCH not linked (or referances, X-Files on Buffy, X-Files on Angel, etc.) So I got very very confused when X-Files was watched on Millenium and then they did the crossover. But thanks to Tommy's messed up mind, it doesn't bother me anymore.

There's a Gage Whitney in every universe. In fact, I'd say Gage Whitney is the Wolfram and Hart of the Sorkin cluster of television universes. ;)

Last week I mentioned a couple of newspapers that were in tommy's mind and I have found another connection to one of theme in tele_toby's archives
http://mark.staudinger.net/~idiot/display.php3?post=1055979269&datem=&indateq=&indatee=&sbposter=&sbkey=&keytype=

According to this the Los Angeles Tribune from "Lou Grant" also appeared in "Columbo"

If this counts it would also bring in his wife's show "Mrs. Columbo/Kate Columbo/Kate The Detective/Kate Loves A Mystery"

It would also bring in "Magnum PI" "Kojak" and "The Streets of San Francisco" because Magnum was at a convention with Columbo and the other detectives, and that brings in more shows
http://www.thrillingdetective.com/magnum.html

It would be good if this connection counts, not as good as including that grid wrecker Father Guido Sarducci but still good.

It's always been my contention that Mrs. Columbo/Kate Callahan was not married to the Lt. Columbo that we know, but instead to a different LAPD detective who was also a lieutenant named Columbo.

It could happen; it's not that uncommon a name.....

Kate Mulgrew's character was about 25 years younger than Peter Falk's, and yet it was stated in the original series that Columbo and his wife were high school sweethearts.

Such a theory is just a polite way of keeping it out without admitting to one's opinion of the show itself......

(I forgot all about that 'Columbo' mention of the Tribune by Mark. Just as I've forgotten the third link for the Los Angeles Sun and haven't found it yet in my files. But the other two were 'The Debbie Reynolds Show' and of course, 'My Favorite Martian'.)

Not sure if you guys got my email or not, (I sent it to the smashbc screen name), but 'Heroes' linked with 'Lost' last week.

Nikki/Jessica received a package in the mail, with instructions on a contract hit. Also included in the package was a brochure for Gannon Car Rental, which shows up a lot in 'Lost'. (Most recently as a sponsor of one of the football matches in last week's episode.)

If you got that email there was a link in it to a site with corroborating pics.....

Both 'Heroes' and 'Lost' are already in the mix, but it's nice to see them more closely linked. They always felt like they should be.

good eyes tele_toby

I have been doing some research the past couple of days on the National Inquisitor and the other papers, and what I found might effect both Toobworld and the grid, so I would like to know what both you and Crossoverman think of the connections

The National Inquisitor is apparently very common on tv, I have found no less then 13 more shows that this little tabloid has appeared in bring the total to 16, and surprisingly only one show ALF is currently on the grid

the new shows are
Renegade
Saved by the Bell
The New Addams Family
Smallville
Murder One
Guiding Light
Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman
General Hospital
Weird Science
Port Charles
The Invisible Man
One Life to Live
Melrose Place

I have also found 5 more for the Los Angeles Tribune bringing this papers total to 10

Moonlighting
24
Matt Houston
Wonder Woman
Remington Steele

Finlay I have also found one more for the Los Angeles Sun, bringing its total to 3, however none of them are on the Grid yet

Pasadena

I am sure there are more connections but these are the only ones that I find right now so keep an eye out for them

I have written so much I am not even going to mention Father Guido Sarducci

I'm not sure the NI counts. I understand that this fictitious tabloid was established in movies and TV shows at some points in the 1980s in order to avoid lawsuits by the similarly inclined National Enquirer. This sounds like another 555 case to me.

Great work on spotting the paper, though. Melrose Place would, of course, bring two additional shows in, as would Saved by the Bell.

There was also a 'Columbo' from the ABC years for the National Inquisitor. Can't remember the details on the plotline, but Columbo was sitting across from a woman who was reading an issue of the tabloid and a story on its front page caught his eye.

So... That'd mean, if the Inquisitor counts, that even Marvel Comics (read: not TV shows) are in the mix? 'Cause GL and Marvel Universe did/are doing/whatever a crossover.

Grey's Connection

I just found this site, and automatically thought of a way that shows how Grey's Anatomy (and therefore the OC) are connected:

On Degrassi TNG, which is already connected, two of the characters are fans of Grey's Anatomy and mention Mc Dreamy: http://popculturejunkies.com/2007/02/17/degrassi-mannys-forbidden-love/

Not really how the Tommy Westphall Universe works. We try to find connections that put the two shows in the same fictional world - so crossover of character or fictional places ties shows together.

Obviously the kids of Degrassi watch Grey's Anatomy as a TV show - they don't visit Seattle Grace, which would place them in the same universe.

Paris Section Criminelle sans Belzer?
[info]johnmunch
2007-03-07 09:47 pm UTC (link)
According to this site (http://www.lawandorder-fr.com/news/?news=158), filming of Paris Section Criminellle is well under way, and the first episodes will be broadcast around June or August. I may be wrong since my French is almost non-existent and let's not talk about the automatic translation (but it is always good for a laugh). However, the article, dated March 5, 2007, does NOT mention our good friend Richard Belzer in any way. A crossover with LO:CI is regarded as highly theoretical since LO:CI would have to be extended to a seventh season (and PSC to a second one) which seems doubtful or, at least, not quite certain to the French correspondents.

an unaird crossover with Spaced and the X-Files
(Anonymous)
2007-03-09 07:32 pm UTC (link)
This is kind of strange but it might count

Apparently a BBC sitcom called Spaced filmed a scene were one of the main characters met Dana Scully from the X-Files, however the scene was cut before the episode aired.

I know this is a long shot and I have never even seen Spaced so I have no idea what the context of the conversation would have been, but from what I have read the show sounds interesting.

Don't worry if the crossover doesn't count I will not continually mention it in later post like I do with Father Guido Sarducci

Another National Inquisitor
(Anonymous)
2007-03-11 04:01 am UTC (link)
I have also found another show that has featured the National Inquisitor bringing the total number to 18, The Young and the Restless

This would also bring in 6 other soaps- The Bold And The Beautiful, As The World Turns, Our Private World, Another World, Somerset, and Texas

Since I did not list most of the other Inquisitor and Tribune shows connections to other shows earlier, I will do it now:

Saved by the Bell is connected to 8 shows- Good Morning Miss Bliss, Saved By The Bell: The College Years, Saved By The Bell: The New Class, Hang Time, That's So Raven, Cory in the House, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and Hannah Montana

Columbo in addition to the possible seven mentioned above, would through Magnum PI bring in 6 more shows for a possible total of 13- Hawaii 50, The Law And Harry McGraw, Quantum Leap, Simon And Simon, and Whiz Kids

Melrose Place was connected to two shows- Beverly Hills 90210, and Models Inc.

All the ABC soaps are connected to, All My Children

Murder One apparently had a sequel series called, Diary of a Serial Killer

Burke's Law in addition to its 3 incarnations, had a spin-off called Honey West

Finally Moonlighting had a crossover with, Hart to Hart

These two little papers could bring in about 60 new shows to Tommy's mind, I would like to see the news stations do that (I really would, what ever happened to GNN ZNN and CNB?)

If any body else knows of any more connections to the above mentioned shows please post them

Did I mention that Father Guido Sarducci would bring in 4 new shows- Square Pegs, Tales of the City, More Tales of the City, and Further Tales of the City

Only four years to go for L&O; spin-off for Heroes
[info]johnmunch
2007-05-15 01:55 pm UTC (link)
While waiting for answers to my queries, some news for the audience.

'Heroes' got a semi-spinoff named 'Heroes: Origins'. Six new episodes will air during the summer introducing new characters which may or may not be picked for the new season of the mother show.

The L&O triptych stays whole. L&O Classic and L&O: Criminal Intent got reneweed for another year, Classic´s 18th and CI´s 7th. IN a turnarpound of procedure, CI is being broadcast on USA Cable first and rerun on NBC later. Since USA is part of NBC the show has not really left the building, so to say. To surpass 'Gunsmoke's record 20-year run, L&O will have to stay on the air for three more years after the 2007-2008 season.

And expect another massive update of Westphall's Wanderers in very late May/early June.

Oh, another question: Did or did not 'The FBI' (1965-1974) ever do a crossover with another show? There is a submenu at www.1965thefbishow.com that suggests so but their com button gives a 404 - the site is under construction.

I'm surprised I didn't see more publicity for it as the night approached, especially considering it happened during Sweeps.

Connecting Tommy to The West Wing
(Anonymous)
2007-06-05 06:10 am UTC (link)
Since Sports Night is already in the Tommyverse I have found a connection between Sports Night and the West Wing. The Fictional Company Shearson. The company is referenced in the Sports Night Episode Donna and the Deep Blue Sea and by Sam Seaborn in Shadow of Two Gun Men Part two. This connection, if accepted, leads to an interesting problem with adding Studio 60. There is a poster of Bartlet for America hanging on one of the walls in the studio however when Alison Janey was the guest host they refer to West Wing as a tv series she was on.
