TiVo launches pre-emptive legal strike on Forgent over patents. TiVo filed suit against Forgent in US District Court in San Jose, CA on May 17th. Forgent claims a patent on DVR technology and they've been pursuing companies to license it from them. They've just lost a suit against EchoStar, who they were claiming infringed on the patent. TiVo apparently felt that Forgent would be pursuing them, so they filed the pre-emptive suit seeking a ruling that the Forgent patent is not valid or that TiVo is not infringing.
