Tivo Series 2 keeps 'vanishing' from my wireless network
I have a TiVO Series 2 that is hooked into my houses' wireless network. Everytime I try to use Tivo Desktop to transfer one or two recordings to my PC, the Tivo will 'vanish' from the wireless network, thus completely screwing up the transfer(s). I have to reboot the Tivo in order for it to pop back onto the network. This is becoming REALLY annoying! I'm about ready to hardwire the damned thing directly into my wireless router. Is there any way to stop the tivo from being dropped or, stop the Tivo dropping itself from the network when a transfer starts?? The 'drop' only seems to occur when I'm using Tivo Desktop; otherwise it seems ok.

Wireless router and adapter plugged into the Tivo are both NetGear.

Current Mood: annoyed

I had a similar problem when my Linksys access point was on it's way out. Also, various tivo software revs have been more or less stable with wireless adaptors.

Hardwire should be more stable. The "official" answer you'll probably get from Tivo is to use their WiFi adaptor.

I've never had a problem with my hardwired Series 2 DT. Not that that addresses your current issue, but it might help in your decision.

I only use the TiVo WiFi adapters, so I don't know much about other USB adapters.

But I used to use a Netgear WGT624 router, and from time to time all my TiVos would stop seeing each other, or my PC. If I rebooted the router it'd start working again. Eventually I replaced the router with a Linksys WRT54GL and it hasn't happened again.

You'd probably be better off hardwiring it to the router.

Faster connection speeds, too.
