HD TIVO or not...
So time is quickly ticking away on the lifetime transfer for S3 tivo's.  My wife and I are currently deciding if we should get one or not.  We love our S2 Tivo.  Right now we have a SD TV in the living room with the TIVO, and a 37" HDTV in our bedroom (no TIVO).  So we could definatly use it.  Most likely we will be getting an HDTV in the living room within the next year or so.

So, my question is...is the S3 Tivo worth it.  It will cost about $850 to get the box and transfer lifetime (unless anyone has seen cheaper).  What does Tivo offer that a Comcast  DVR doesn't (we're in New England).  I know that Comcast will be offering Tivo menu eventually, which makes the decision hard.  Any help with this decision would be great.
thanks

I love my Series3 and don't regret buying it at all. But it is expensive.

If you can afford it without regret over the money, I'd get it.

You can't really use the Series 2 on HD at all. The picture quality is atrocious. So, if you're ever planning to use it on HD, do yourself a favor and buy the Series 3. I love mine!

Sweet Beautiful HDTV

I'm not convinced that Comcast will ever been better then owning a standalone box. My HDTiVo is amazing and I'll be able to get video from the net onto in a few months.

We were seriously on the fence a long time, and lived with the Time Warner dvr for a while... but truly, it was a piece of junk -- very nonresponsive to remote input, randomly -for no reason knowable- not recording requested shows... just clunky and horrible to use..

Our S3 has only been up and running a week or so, but we are glad already we made the switch! We've had TiVo's since the s1's back in 2000.. and once you are used to the TiVo, it's hard to put up with the other stuff...

I figure the Comcast offering will be Tivolike, but just like the DirectTivos are limited, it probably will be too, and I didn't want to be cut off from whatever innovations they develop for the s3.

Also.. watch your online sales... you can find them around $630 or so.. and then I know you have the $200 transfer, but still.. in our lives, it did turn out to be worth the expense.
