The WeaKnees blog shares the news that TiVo has dropped the price of the TiVo HD from $299 to $249, and of the TiVo HD XL from $599 to $499, effective today. WeaKnees also has some great deals on expanded TiVo units, as well as units with backup drives so if one drive fails, your shows don't vanish.

Though summer is the most cherished of seasons, it’s also a time for a pop culture phenomenon known as television limbo. In summer, syndication is king, and reality shows sadly take up precious primetime slots. But once the weather takes a jolly stroll down the thermometer, it’s time to return once more to your old boxy friend. A slew of shows are popping up on the radar this season, some good, some mindless slot-fillers. Get the dirt on some of this year’s new shows, along with a few returning favorites.

I just got an HD tv and I have a regular old series2 Tivo. I haven't been home to check it out for myself yet (my boyfriend is hooking it up today), but I have been wondering if since my TiVo is standard def, if our live tv is going to be HD. Since TiVo records even your live shows so you can rewind and pause, I wasn't sure if that meant tv shows were always being fed through the TiVo first...

I'd love to get feedback from anyone who uses a TiVo series 2 with an HD tv. I have been considering getting the TiVo HD, but since we just bought a HD tv, I am not sure if I could afford it...

I am looking for a TivoDesktop Windows alternative that incorporates tivodecode. Getting sick of the two step process. Additionally Timewarner will be fixing the CCI Flag overuse in next 10 days before the SDV change over. So manual work will only be getting worse.

Thanks for any help

I have an older (4+ yrs) Series2 that "froze up" on me with a blank screen yesterday.  I unplugged it, waited a couple of hours, plugged it back in and it has been stuck on the "POWERING UP" screen for a couple of hours. I went ahead and repeated the above process a couple more times, same result.

I am guessing that I am out of luck and will have to get a new drive for it?  I have no idea really. Anyone have any tips or hints on this one?

Thanks!

The glitches could no longer be ignored. Having moved from occasional to constant, I finally ran a scan on the hard drives of my single tuner (but massively upgraded) S2. Primary drive failed the test. Ah yes, this would explain the constant glitches and the big lockup yesterday. After rebooting from the lockup is when the glitches had increased to constant.

What to do, what to do? Do I go ahead and replace the drives in the S2? I've done it before, so it's not like it would really be an issue. Just obtain the drives and go. But that single tuner has really been cramping my style, you know? Plus, what to do about Mondays on the new fall schedule? I'm not giving up Heroes, wife isn't giving up House. And Thursdays...she hates The Office, so trying to convince her to let me give higher priority over Fringe for that is NOT going to end well. No...the single tuner as our primary TiVo really hasn't been a viable option for awhile now.

After a brief bit of pondering and discussion, it becomes clear it is time for a dual tuner solution, which has the added benefit of moving the current TiVo to another room (after I address the drive situation) and using it there. I figure if I'm gonna open the wallet, make it worthwhile. TiVo HD XL with lifetime ships Tuesday (stupid holiday...).

Of course, this means the S4 will be announced next week. I took that bullet for the rest of you, my friends. Enjoy it.

I have been playing around with Pytivo and KMTTG and Streambaby, but I was curious if there was any option to play files straight from the computer as if they were on the Tivo drive assuming they are in .tivo file format?

Is TiVo Desktop Plus the only program to transfer videos from my PC to my TiVo HD to watch? I really can't afford to buy the program.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: I installed pytivo and it works perfectly!

So...this past weekend, finding that the higher channels that are on expanded basic are now unreachable without a box; had been using direct coax from wall to TiVo to TV for my subscription S2 DT (currently have a lifetime single tuner S2 TiVo as well)

I'm reading what's going to happen and how will I get to record more than one program on the DT. Until I find this in the support FAQ;

" Because the Digital Transport Adapter uses the DVR’s coax input, these DVRs become single tuner when used with a DTA. "

Is there no way around this? Will I need to end my DT subscription if this becomes a single tuner?

Please advise. I'm thinking the worst...

TiVo adds new Web videos, option to watch niche content

by Don Reisinge

TiVo announced Wednesday that it has added hundreds of free Web videos to TiVo Series3, TiVo HD, and TiVo HD XL DVRs. Also, subscribers who are interested in watching video podcasts that they can't find through TiVo's listing can enter RSS feeds manually to watch the show on their TiVo box.

Starting Wednesday, subscribers will be able to watch free video podcasts from several providers, including CBS, Fox, Oprah, and more. (CNET News is published by CBS Interactive, a unit of CBS.) They can watch a single episode or subscribe to all the podcast's shows by opting for a season pass.

TiVo also announced that it will allow users to input video podcast RSS feeds to watch those shows that they can't find on their TiVo Web Video listing.

To do so, subscribers will need to use the "Custom RSS Feeds" option in the "Browse Web Videos" menu. That option will allow them to input a show's RSS feed with their remote. If it's a valid link, they can decide to watch a single episode or subscribe to the feed through Season Pass. They can also watch past episodes.

To maximize the amount of content available to its subscribers, TiVo has provided show producers with guidelines for getting their Web videos ready for the DVR. The shows must be made available through RSS (RSS 2.0 is preferred). The video must also be in H.264 format.

TiVo's inclusion of more video podcasts follows a long line of upgrades the company has made to its platform over the past year. In October, TiVo announced that Netflix streaming was coming to its DVRs. HD content from Amazon's Video on Demand service was added earlier this year. The company even announced plans to bring Blockbuster Video on Demand to subscribers. Now, TiVo subscribers can supplement all that professional content with thousands of Web shows that they might already be enjoying on competing products, like the Apple TV.

TiVo's new Web videos and the option to add custom RSS feeds are available now to TiVo Series3, TiVo HD, and TiVo HD XL owners.

TiVo's Star Showcase Sweepstakes does not seem to be working on my HD TiVo, but it works okay on my Series 2 TiVo.  Is it not available on HD TiVos?

So I have a tivo series 2 and recently moved to a new apartment with new cable. I hooked my tivo up and every now and then when it's suppose to record a show on a channel that is double digits, it'll only go to the first digit and not record the right channel (ie. instead of channel 53, it records channel 5, etc.). It doesn't do this every time so I am confused on what is going on, anyone else have this problem in the past?

BBC America premieres its HD programming tomorrow, with emphasis on Torchwood, Doctor Who, Being Human, and Primeval.  I expect that cable providers adding it to their lineup will keep the non-HD channel available, so scheduled recordings should still go off as planned.  If some companies replace the non-HD channel with the HD one, hopefully TiVo will still record because it has the same channel number.  If you have recordings scheduled, you might want to check your lineup tomorrow before they start so you can switch the scheduling to the HD channel if it's there.

For those of you that have a TiVo and also use an antenna to receive your tv signal TiVo has created a page about the transition tomorrow.

http://www3.tivo.com/form-apps/show.do?pg=/setupandsupport/digitaltrans/digitaltrans.html

Get ready for Digital Antenna Transition '09

Starting June 12, 2009, full-power U.S. TV stations will discontinue use of analog signals and will broadcast only digital signals. By law, full-power television stations nationwide must stop using the old method of transmitting TV signals known as analog. Digital Television (DTV) is an innovative type of broadcasting technology that will give you crystal-clear pictures and sound, and more programming choices than ever before.

Did you know... With TiVo HD, you're ready for Digital Transition regardless of your TV set. TiVo HD works on HD TVs and standard-definition TVs. Its built-in digital tuners will automatically receive the new-and-improved over-the-air digital channels with an over-the-air antenna on June 12th, 2009 without having to purchase or install a digital converter.

Just want to share with the community - I've got a great system I just installed that lets me watch and control my Tivo from EVERY TV in my home - all without having to put a TiVo at every TV, network them all up and pay monthly for the priviledge. This unit (BOCS) actually has three inputs so I have two TiVos and a Windows Media Center hooked up to it. Now from every room in my home I can call up normal cable TV or any of those three connected devices. Every TV can be watching a different thing, and it took me only about an hour to install.

Seems like exactly the kind of thing I've seen folks around here asking for for a long time -

The company is www.bocsco.com

And I found them for sale at http://www.amperordirect.com/pc//bocs-mediahub-offer01.html
(But give them a call because I think you can get another $35 off the web price...)

There is a nice review over on the AVS forums - http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=16002683#post16002683

Let me know what yall think

I'm pretty sure I already know the answer, but there isn't any way to move the shows on a TiVo's My DVR Expander external drive to another drive, is there? I have a 500GB My DVR Expander on my main TiVo HD, and just got a 1TB drive for the other TiVo HD.

What I'd like to do is put the bigger drive on the main TiVo, where I do most of my TV-watching, and put the smaller one upstairs on the bedroom TiVo. But since the TiVo splits every program between internal and external drive, there's no way to separate the external drive from the TiVo unless it's all empty.

I suppose I could switch the basement TiVo-and-drive with the bedroom TiVo-and-drive, and reprogram all of the season passes on each, to end up with the bigger drive downstairs, but that seems silly. :-)

Thanks for any suggestions!

Apparently I don't read this community often enough, because as my TiVo was recording The Simpsons tonight I was shocked to see the new flag icon and read the details. One week or 24 hours after you start? What are these production companies thinking? I'm really, really disappointed at this, and I'm going to write to TiVo and anyone else to tell them so. I realize the "you can't record this to a DVD" is fairly bogus since I most certainly can record it directly onto my DVD recorder without having to use the "save to" feature, but still, I'm amazed at how paranoid the networks are becoming. (I was also shocked at which shows were now marked with flags, like TLC - WTF?)

Anyway, just figured I'd come here and whine. Don't mind me. :)

Way back before I had an HD TiVo, I remember in one of the upgrades for Series 3/HD, they added an ability to find channels by name or by call letters instead of numbers. Maybe it was just by name (like Food or HGTV) instead of channel numbers. Or maybe I just dreamed up the whole thing.

I can't figure out how to search for it and can't find it by stumbling. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? Or how to find it?

On the flip side, I just read via Twitter that on my HD, when you get to the end of a program, you can backup!! Yes! Instead of the stated options of Keep or Delete, there is a hidden one of reverse. Now, maybe everyone knew this but me. In case they didn't, I offer.

I have a lineup issue that has now gone unresolved for three months, with two separate cases open... *sigh*

In trying to find TiVo's support phone number and hours of operation on their site tonight, I found that the form to report lineup issues has returned -- and it's being redirected from http://www.tivo.com/lineup as it once was.
