So, I'm curious to see who out there will be going to either or both of the following.
First, the Gothic Charm School Tea Party Picnic in New York City on July 18th:

I will be there with bells on, and it should be a great deal of fun. Come and meet the Lady of Manners herself! It will be at Greenwood Cemetary (http://www.green-wood.com/).
Second, the annual Time Travel Picnic at the Tuxedo, New York Renn Faire on August 1st:

I've had a great time at this event each year, and we've consistently gotten fantastic pictures. Come and have fun and meet new people!

For the past several years I have had a dream.... A simple, humble dream.... A dream of going to a Rennaissance Fair....
Dressed like Victorian explorers.... Who have traveled through time.... For the single, noble purpose.... Of socializing with Medieval people.... Because it would be fun.
To celebrate my birthday
Because I thought it would be a lot of fun, I propose for a bunch of us to meet up at the Tuxedo Ren Fair on August 1st (that's a Saturday) and that we dress to the nines. Whether you dress like a Victorian time-traveler, a Rennaissance local, Steampunk mad scientist or in whatever else you would enjoy, please come and bring people to have fun! Dress up however you like, but be sure to dress up!
This was the first meet up of its kind and will go strong for years to come.
The site for the Ren Fair is http://www.recfair.com/NY/index.php
Cheep tickets till July 24th get them here now! http://www.recfair.com/NY/index.php
The meet up time and so forth will be worked out on this LJ comnunity..

This will be fun and this time its going to happen..even if its just like 4 of us...

Ladies and gentlemen,
It has been previously lamented that there seem to be no wintertime steampunk events for the east coast. In summer, we have the annual Time Travel Picnic; fall is Saloncon; spring we're still working on, but we won't talk about that.... But there seems to be nothing available for winter. This is, of course, a great shame, as most steampunk outfits (being multi-layered and often somewhat warm) are ideal for colder weather environments.
To this end, I would like to invite everyone within easy traveling distance from Washington, D.C. to come and join me on Saturday, January 3rd for a little social excursion. We will meet in the charming gardens behind the Smithsonian Castle at approximately 1pm to exchange greetings. If you feel like bringing some warm refreshments, please do so (though be aware that they will need to be consumed during the out of doors portion of the expedition). Anyone who would like to take pictures, or have pictures taken of themselves, will have the opportunity (and the Castle certainly makes for a wonderful backdrop). People who arrive early should feel free to look around a bit if they so choose, and then meet everyone else at the appointed time (most Smithsonian museums are open from 10am to 5:30pm, though the Natural History Museum may still be open as late as 7:30 due to holiday hours).
After that, we will be at liberty to enjoy the Smithsonian museums. This will not be a formal activity: this is not any sort of official event nor will there be a group tour of any kind (although I may, from time to time, offer useful observations such as "And this is snow."); people will be free to go off on their own or with others as they see fit, to see whatever sights are of interest to them. I myself will be making a circuit of the museums around National Mall (most likely starting with Freer Gallery next to the Castle, and then moving to the Air and Space Museum to observe their collection of vintage aeroplanes). Anyone attending is welcome to accompany me, but should feel free to deviate from my course if they see fit.
For people attending who are not familiar with D.C., I highly recommend parking at one of the Metro stations outside of the city and using public transport (as with most major cities, parking can be hit or miss in the downtown areas, though it certainly does exist). You will then want to travel to the Smithsonian station, which is on both the Orange and Blue lines. The Castle is clearly visible a short distance away.
A map of the National Mall including the Castle can be found here: http://www.si.edu/visit/infocenter/mall map.htm
A metro map on the metro website can be found here: http://www.wmata.com/metrorail/systemma p.cfm

...to come to the Wicked Faire and picnic?
I admit it wouldn't be as unexpected as Tuxedo, but I'd love to work out some ideas with you, if you're game!
I can definitely arrange pie.

I had a great time at TUX over the weekend. I'm sorry I didn't get to see everyone who came out. But the picnic seemed to be a great success. Props to our very capable organizers, seen below
I uploaded my first 6 pictures to a Flikr set.

Enjoy. Hopefully I'll have more up over the weekend.

Well it was a long trip there but i have to say it was worth it. The pictures we (my mom and I) took are all on a roll so I have no idea how long it will be until they're developed. On the bright side, it looks like we managed to pressure my mom into dressing up for the next event (or at least next year's picnic). She's looking into steampunk horticulture. I'm not exactly sure how she'll pull that off but I look forward to it. Anywho, I had a great time and i can't wait until I get a chance to do something again.

Well this past weekend was the opening day of the New York Renaissance Festival in Tuxedo, NY. It was also the Time Travelers Picnic. Although I did not dress very steampunk for this event (I was more of the Arabian pirate, as my friends described the outfit) I still stopped by and said hello to everyone as well as posed for some photographs and took some myself.
Unfortunately I did not make it to the actual picnic and I believe I missed a large portion of the photoshoot. But here are my photographs.

Thank you to all the crazy wonderful people who braved the crazy rain and came out today and had a good time at the Time Travel Picnic.
You are all full of awesome and I hope you all randomly coming together for this fun has led to you meeting new people that become pals as time goes on. Some of you crazy people drove over 4 hours to come.
You should note that since this was once more a great deal of fun and silliness we shall be doing it again next year. I do encourage you out there who cannot come to the event we have to make your own and post the photos from it.
We have many, many, many great photos and they all shall be posted once I get some sleep. If you did take photos I suggest that you post every one you took here, as that one photo you took could be the best photo ever of someone who came.
So in closing you many insane people are wonderful and we shall do this once more next year.
I leave you with just one of the many photos we took today to give you a clue the wonderful silliness that took place.

Kate and Dave are full of awesome and I love my face in this shot. There are many more coming.

Hello, there is a party leaving from the East Village for the fair tomorrow around 11AM. We have 2 seats available, possibly 3. Please leave a comment if you are interested in carpooling and splitting expenses, which is estimated to be just under $30 for the entire journey (gas and rental fee included.)
So last year we did the first of its kind, the Time Travel Picnic. A great many people showed up and they all had fun. I thought I had all the photos from it but I was wrong....
The all powerful and mighty D. E. Christman of http://www.grendelsden.net/ had taken these very photos posted below, and I was just able to get copies of them. So behold, the fun of last year. (And I hope some of you come to the fun of this year, on August 2nd, 2008.
If you would like to come this year all the info can be found: here:http://community.livejournal.com/t imetravelpicni/12733.html
Or jump on this group and work out outfits, carpools, or just getting photos the day after: http://community.livejournal.com/timetr avelpicni/profile
All that is asked of you is that if you do come you have FUN!

Ladies and gentlemen, here is an update to all of you planning on attending this year's annual Time Travel Picnic, being held on August 2nd, the opening day of the Tuxedo, New York Renn Faire.
Everyone will assemble OUTSIDE the main gate, so that all attendees will have an easier time finding one another before having to go inside. We will be meeting at around 1:00 pm, and while I am certain the group will not mind waiting a little while for stragglers, I would advise everyone to show up no latter than 1:15. If it happens that you show up after the main party has gone inside, please do not panic. Simply stroll about at your leisure: we should not be difficult to spot.
We will be holding a picnic inside after everyone has assembled. Food is available for purchase at the faire. For those of you interested in bringing your own items, please note that as far as I am aware the faire does not allow outside food or drink (although I don't recall them being overly thorough in their searching). If you do decide to be scandalous and bring your own nourishment, make sure it is hidden (though of course I discourage such action in the strongest possible terms, etc.)
Admission information can be found on the main page of the website. In addition, I believe there is a $10 discount coupon available for the opening weekend (the Time Travel Picnic weekend), which is explained here: http://www.renfair.com/NY/tickets/08cou pon_web.php
and can be downloaded here: http://www.renfair.com/NY/tickets/08cou pon_download.php
Directions can be found here: http://www.renfair.com/NY/general/mapto faire.php
Please remember that those of you attending are free to dress however you please, although the Time Travel Picnic is an opportunity to wear your favorite warm-weather steampunk/Victorian outfit, which is what I shall be doing. And, on that note, I leave you with the following inspirational figures:

Regards, etc.,

Have there been any further details decided of the specifics of the day?
Specifically, the when and where within the fair?
Thanks
