In a galaxy where Qui-Gon Jinn did not die at the Battle of Naboo, the Republic is on the brink of war. Qui-Gon and his Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, are assigned to protect Senator Padmé Amidala on the eve of a crucial vote. But when the Senator's life is threatened, events spin out of control. Through half-truths and manipulations, the Separatist leader, Count Dooku, lures Qui-Gon over to the dark side. Meanwhile, Qui-Gon's former Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, is assigned to train Anakin after the death of Obi-Wan's own Padawan. But what will happen in this swiftly tilting galaxy, where friends have become enemies and rivals may just become something more?

This comm is designed to house "A Swiftly Tilting Galaxy", an alternate universe Star Wars fanfiction series exploring what might have happened had Qui-Gon Jinn lived through the events of The Phantom Menace. It is written in collaboration by [info]imadra_blue and [info]rabidfangurl. It's closed membership for the writers, but feel free to friend the comm to keep up with updates and art/"deleted scenes"/whatever posted in relation to the story. Watchers make us feel all warm and cozy on the inside, and feedback of any sort makes us squee in delight. Yes, that means we accept concrit.

The story covers alternate universe scenes for both The Phantom Menace and The Attack of the Clones. We will be shooting off into an entirely different direction after the AotC timeline, so similarities to The Revenge of the Sith will be few and far between. We're more likely to echo themes in the original trilogy at that point. If we do not directly show the changes, you can assume the scene happened in a similar manner to canon, and everything prior to Qui-Gon's death in TPM is taken as canon.

We're movie canon girls, so if any Expanded Universe material is used, don't be surprised if we change it to suit our own purposes. The overall rating will be Adult, and though not every chapter will feature sex or violence, the story is intended for an adult audience. The story's main pairing is Anakin/Obi-Wan, so be warned for future homoerotica and explicit sex scenes (mostly slash, but there will be one het scene as well), as well as the usual warnings for violence, profanity, torture, and character deaths. There is an explicit Anakin/Padmé story arc in here, but it is short-lived.

We will try to update with a new chapter every other Friday, barring unforeseen circumstances. We do have every intention of finishing the story at this time, and since this is shaping up to be pretty epic-length, we can assure you there will be a lot of chapters. We're thinking somewhere in the environs of 50 currently.

The journal header is by [info]rabidfangurl, and the user info banner is by [info]imadra_blue. The poem used in the same banner is modified from a "rune" used in A Swiftly Tilting Planet by Madeline L'Engle. The title is also a nod to the same book. This fic doesn't really have anything to do with the book per se, but we are exploring a few themes similar to the ones explored in A Swiftly Tilting Planet, only in a Star Wars manner. As this was initially written to feel like an alternate version of the Star Wars films, parts of the first ten chapters may include lines and prose description found in the Attack of the Clones script, and the remaining chapters may include lines and themes found in the original trilogy. Some of Obi-Wan's characterization, in regards to his need for control, was based off an idea [info]maureenlycaon shared with [info]imadra_blue in meta discussion. She gave us permission to take the idea and run with it for this story.
