I don't get it. Why would you put the effort into giving it a 'nice' brush or filter or whatever, if it's such a stupid image? Why? This kind of image requires a "OMGWTFBBQ?!" or "You're doing it wrong!", not a grungy filter. That black stain on Mamoru's face really isn't helping anything either.
Stupid brush filter thing aside, what really bugs me about this one is the fact that "late" is not aligned properly. It's off tilt. It clashes with the wall the cats are perched on. It's just SLAPPED IN THERE.
And Usagi looks like ass.
I love it when an icon mocks itself, it makes my job easier.

Uck. snooky18 made some icky icons.
These are okay in concept but there's a few major issues:
- The font is hard to read. Not only is it vertical (just turn the words on their side! It's more legible than THAT), but it's in white, the same as the default background on LJ! That means that we have to read the OUTLINE, not the words themselves. The outline shouldn't be for fun, it should make the text it's surrounding MORE LEGIBLE. Transparent? Try black (or another dark colour) text with a white outline. You won't see it on the default LJ page, but it'll still be legible on darker BGs.
- God, the quality is ATROCIOUS. There's extreme sharpening, which is OKAY, IMHO, but then there's extreme sharpening on an image that's bad quality. Not only that, but the colors haven't been edited at ALL. Screencaps in their natural state make awful icons. The colors need brightened or SOMETHING. It looks disgusting.
- Transparency on icons is SO three years ago.
- Same complaints as above, except it needs sharpened a little bit. I can't see any of the details. GOD, they're sparkly henshin icons! WHERE ARE THE BRIGHT COLORS FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS SHINY AND PRETTY??!?!???!??!!!
- Same as above. Horrible colors, awful quality, unnecessary transparency, no one likes reading outlines.
Also, that's a terrible shot of her henshin. Get a better cap.

At first I thought the script font was decorative, until I actually read the pixellated one: face the path of evidence of a vow shining gold. Kay. That doesn't make sense. The script must be mandatory. face the path of glory; evidence of a vow kiss; initial u shining gold. Doesn't 'Ruka have a theme called "Initial U"? Maybe these are lyrics from that. I'm too lazy to look it up.
This is just a mess. Unless the text is decorative (that is, it LOOKS GOOD, which this does NOT), then it should be legible. I'm probably the only filename senshi that doesn't dislike tiny, decorative text.
TO MAKE IT BETTER:
• Actually EDIT the image, don't just resize it. Mess with the levels, saturation, color balance, whatever to at least spice it up a little.
• If you need to include all those lyrics, it should be animated, each frame with a line of the text.
• If you're going to place the text over Uranus, put a fricking white border so that the font is legible.
• Don't use pixel fonts unless you know what you're doing. Which you DON'T.
• You don't know how to use a script font, either. Not every word/phrase looks good in scriptina, I promise. Initial U is one of those word/phrases.

TO MAKE IT BETTER:
• Again, don't leave it with the default levels. At least use some kind of gradient and set its layer to "Soft Light". You people need to stop playing with Photoshop/Etc without a tutorial. icon_tutorial
• Speaking of which, DON'T USE THOSE RETARDED DEFALT FILTERS. Why are there blocks all over Usagi, you nitwit? Just... No.
• Not all icons need borders; sometimes borders look clumsy on certain icons. This is not one of those icons. It needs a border to hold it in, even just a one-pixel border.

... Why? Why is she blue? There is a happy medium between not touching the adjustments and molesting them.
This icon cannot be made better.

See, this is almost good. It has a good layout, the placement of text is good, and the cropping is fine. I don't mind light icons, but this whole thing just looks washed out. The overall icon is okay, but there's a lot of technical problems.
TO MAKE IT BETTER:
• Up the contrast a little so we can actually see Serenity or Cosmos or whoever this is. *looks harder* Neo-Queen Serenity, I think. Which, btw, undoes your text, as Neo-Queen Serenity is not the princess of the moon, but Queen of Crystal Tokyo, and possibly the whole darn world.
• Once we can see her, we'll see that she is stretched. Don't stretch pictures. No, it is bad. Crop your base, resize the LONGEST DIMENSION to 100 pixels and crop the canvas to 100x100. It's painfully easy, and doesn't stretch the image.
• What is that in the corner? MM?... I don't understand.
• Don't use Silkscreen. It's a pixel font. Anti-aliasing it is a no-no. Don't use it here aliased, either, because the hard edges will look poopy with the soft image/colors. Use Times New Roman (in all capitals, and try bolding it).
• Black border. No black in the icon, not even dark colors. Use the darkest blue in the icon and make the border that color.
We should make filename senshi community. I don't know why. :P

Oke, this is almost too easy, like taking candy from a baby. Let's have a look shall we? This is the first one:
Now, we know the subject of the icon just HAS to dance, but what's with the blinkie words? And the ever increasing size of them. Is this some sort of subliminal message that I'm just not getting? It's just a bad picture with equally bad text added with a blinkie style. Those blinkie things went out AGES ago.
And what's up with this icon? It's labelled as 'under attack' but I think it's more along the lines of the viewer being under attack. I mean....overdose on orange much? The background does NOTHING for the icon at all, and the blurry picture looks like someone took the icon, put it on the ground and ran over it a few times with a truck. Those lines kind of give it away, y'know? Whatever the text says, you can't read it. Icons are meant to look good, and to be readable, unless it's some kind of subliminal message...(again, what's with these subliminal messages in icons?) Just.....no. Too orange, too illegible, and too blurry.
Now what has the subliminal (??) caption got to do with the subject? And why is she all pixelly and blurry? She looks like she's gonna be ill or disappear into pixel heaven any minute...not exactly something to recommend usage of it. Plus it's still too orangey. I know her colours are orange and yellow but there's such thing as too much of a good thing, y'know?
Interesting caption for this icon. It just doesn't really hold my interest at all. For one thing, the text is too hard to see with the dark background, and the font is whack. At least it's not subliminal but yeah. This one looks a bit whoooosh, like someone ran over this icon as well. That sort of thing is fine for backgrounds, but not for an image in a 100x100 icon.
What the hell is this? The extraction is extremely poor and there is absolutely nothing that recommends this to ANYONE. If you're gonna use it as a banner, at least make it look like one. Makoto looks like she stepped in something icky and Usagi looks constipated. Mamoru looks like a candidate for the local looney bin. That's why I don't get the caption text. "We look cool together" How about not?

Culprit: shiokaze_senshi and her 100 icon theme of UranusNeptune. Since I love Uranus and hate Neptune, naturally I must nit-pick. There's some good ones but- we're not in it for that are we folks~!

Comments: Neptune looks like she's eating Uranus out. As far as the garbled crap for crap words go I believe it says 'taste the rainbow'. Gay humour + crap = Uranus getting oral twat joy.
Comments: Ace? Wait.. What?.. Whaaat? As far as I can tell someone has finger legs. I guess Thing Adams would be kind of turned on by this.

Ok, I hate illegible text. You know, the one pixel fonts that have become stylish in icons? It's abit more tollerable if the text matches or compliments the icon base. Black lines on a bright, colourful base do not work for me.
Oh..and there's what appear to be chibi senshi on the bottom. Contrary to popular belief, they aren't balloon animals!
