Rogue/Remy: Beach (Closer to You)

Rogue/Gambit Fic Recs

Author: Flitz
Title: Every Time a Phone Rings
Fandom: X-Men: Evolution
Pairing: Rogue/Gambit
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None offered
Status: In Progress
Summary: Making friends with the enemy.
Why I recommend this story: Oftentimes, we forget the allegiances in the Evo context. Lines blur together when Gambit is involved in any storyline, but Flitz makes those demarcations perfectly clear to the reader. It's refreshing, and wickedly sinister the way she skirts nearer the dark stuff.

Author: [info]vikingprincess
Title: Seven Deadly Sins
Fandom: X-Men: Movieverse
Pairing: Rogue/Gambit
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None offered
Status: In Progress
Summary: None offered
Why I recommend this story:  Every so often, you come across a story whose language, tempo and narration scrape so closely to real life that the suspension of reality becomes near-palpable. Vikingprincess has a knack for that sort of storytelling.

Rogue: Big Damn Hero

FIC: "A Mile in His Shoes" by Crazed Fuzzle (X-Men: Evo, PG, ROMY)

Author: Crazed Fuzzle
Title: A Mile in His Shoes (Formerly, "Trading Spaces")
Fandom: X-Men: Evolution
Pairing: Rogue/Gambit
Rating: PG
Warnings: None offered
Status: Multi-chapter, in-progress
Summary: Remy no longer wants anything to do with Magneto, but the Master of Metal is not so willing to let him go. In an attempt to blackmail the X-Men into returning him, he kidnaps Rogue...Who finds that not everything is as it seems...
Why I recommend this story: With Ms. Fuzzle picking up with the frequency of her updates, not only have I been squeeing more often, but louder too. Sometimes, if you're fortunate, you stumble across a characterization that really, truly reflects the unique essence of the Evolution series without falling back on a portrayal that would be better suited to a different universe, so let me assure you - Fuzzle nailed it on all counts. Rogue's a social deviant with an attitude problem, and Gambit's just as slippery as ever. In short, if you want Evolution's characters? You got em. (You also have a nice, heavy plotline that accents the story nicely. Ok - it doesn't just accent it, it gives it a backbone and something of substance to debate with the author if you're the sort to start slinging suspicions around regarding the motivations of our favourite Master of Magnetism.) All in all, a great read.

FIC: "Hazard" by Neurotic Temptress (Rogue/Gambit, AU)

Title: Hazard
Author:
Neurotic Temptress
Fandom: X-Men (AU)
Pairing: Rogue/Gambit
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Alternate Universe, Dark themes
Status: Multi-chapter, complete
Summary: Nothing eventful ever happens in small towns... right?
Why I recommend this story: Ask yourself, how involved do you need to get with a story for an author to make you sob in front of your computer screen? Neurotic Temptress plays the reader, luring them into the story with a false sense of security, and tears the metaphorical rug out from beneath them with such ease that I'm almost a little ashamed to say that it had me bawling like a baby by the end of it. Great stuff, that.

Rogue: Big Damn Hero

FIC: "House of Cards" by Ludi (X-Men: Comicverse, Rogue/Gambit)

Title: House of Cards
Author: Ludi
Fandom: X-Men: Comicverse
Pairing: Rogue/Gambit
Rating: R
Warnings: None offered
Status: WIP, multi-chapter
Summary: Three people, one destiny. Five days in four years: is it ever going to be enough to get close to someone when the world and even your life are crumbling around you? Rogue, Gambit, Days of Future Past.
Why I recommend this story: Frequently, Romy fiction falls into a fairly standardized pattern - they love each other, they hate each other, they bicker a bit and in the end, everyone ends up happy. Ludi is a bit of a (pardon the pun) rogue when it comes to setting up the atmosphere. "House of Cards" not only kicks off with a slew of character deaths, but its set in something pretty close to mutie dystopia. Post-apocalyptic, heavy, resonant narrative, vivid settings and an uncanny (another pun!) understanding of character sets this fic apart from the normative cookie-cutter romances. Throw in Mystique, Irene Adler and the Books of Destiny and you get one humdinger of a story.

FIC: "X3: Heart of a Rogue" (X-Men: Movieverse, Rogue/Gambit)

Title: X3: Heart of a Rogue
Author: Black Queen
Fandom: X-Men: Movieverse
Pairing: Rogue/Gambit
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None offered
Status: WIP, multi-chapter
Summary: Set during X3. Just my little take on how Rogue's storyline should have been handled in "X-men: The Last Stand"
Why I recommend this story: After the release of X3, we heard at least half of fandom scream indignantly at the treatment of Rogue's character and the choices she made. Black Queen has endeavoured to re-address the events of the third X-Men film in a manner that not only treats character motivation with a sensitivity we don't often see in the films, but also incorporates the catalyzing elements that bring movieverse Rogue closer to her comicverse counterpart. To say the least, it's refreshing.
