I am a teacher and run an art club for students at my school. In December were going to be decorating and painting picture frames for gifts. Anywhere I can get 50 picture frames for cheap? Ie: not a dollar each. I'd love 4x6 that are blank wood but am not that picky.

    Granny Squares...
Does anyone know of a charity/program (or some such) in Hamilton that accepts granny squares? I have just over a hundred assorted ones collecting dust and space and no time to assemble them into afghans for people who might be in need this winter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. ;)

Edit: Thank you all so much!... These are all great ideas & I'm going to start calling around now ;)

    Meeting New People
Further to this post from earlier in the year where some of us wanted to make local friends to go out for drinks (or what have you) and from occasional OT conversations that I have had with some scifi fans-in-hiding on this com (under a previous user name) ...

If you are interested in attending a fun afternoon/evening on Sat. Sept November 21 that combines both of the above, post here and I will send you the details. There will be drinks, appetizers, dessert, movies and other shenanigans for your entertainment. Right here in Hamilton.

Let me suggest though, if you are the kind of person who is belligerent when drinking (or sober), this probably isn’t for you. If you can play nice in the sandbox, then rock on. Also, getting together is for fun and friendship not specifically dating (I hesitate to even say it but if that’s your intent, please at least be subtle about it).

Once again, post if you have any interest and I will PM the details via LJ.

    Selling textbooks?
I'm wondering if anyone knows a place that will buy (fairly new, mostly used) textbooks for decent prices. I have a bunch of the textbooks from Mohawk's General Arts & Science program that I really don't need. Some of them are still shrink-wrapped (I obviously cared so much about psychology). I'd prefer downtown/Westdale/Dundas but at this point as long as someone is willing to pay me for them I am happy.

Alternately, if anyone's starting in that program any time soon, I have textbooks in great condition for sale!

Anyone know of any novels or stories that are set in Hamilton? I'm looking for fiction but literary non-fiction would be ok too.

    Thanks!

cut ting prescription lens to no brand frames
Hi, i am looking for a good affordable place in Hamilton that is willing to cut prescription lens into these frames that i have.  There are originally non-prescription glasses which i like to mention.[It might effect some places decision to cut.] Paying frames at their places is ridiculously expensive.

    Thanks a bunch!

    Restaurants with private rooms
I'm looking for a restaurant where I can hold a party for about 40 to 50 adults. Any restaurants that people can suggest with a private room would be appreciated :)

Off the top of my head the only ones I can think of are The Old Mill, The Pheasant Plucker, The Mandarin and The Vicar's Vice. I'd especially be interested in a Vietnamese restaurant with a private room (or even one that caters!), but I'm pretty much open to any kind of restaurant. It can be located in Hamilton, Burlington, Dundas or Stoney Creek.

    Scalpelling
Does anyone know if there are any piercing places in Hamilton/Hamilton area that will perform earlobe scalpelling? I thought I'd ask here before I go and call/e-mail all of the places. I don't care about the price so long as the place is clean and reputable.

    vegetarian food
what are some good vegetarian/vegan restaurants in westdale or downtown? they don't need to have exclusively vegetarian menus as long as they have a fair amount of good non-meat entrees. i only know of bridges, bean bar, and the village green so i'm looking to diversify a little bit.

    thanks!

    Dungeon Comics potential monthly events.

Edit: We're hazarding ideas for the 1st 2nd and 3rd friday of each month respectively, aiming for about an hour and a half for the rpg and probably the same for the other events does that sound appealing? when we get solid dates I'll start hanging some flyers around and see if I can get you guys to help me out;)

    Salut to one and all!

I come bearing the great news of a new comic/gaming store in Dundas. It's really easy to access from Jackson's Square you take the 52 Head street and Get off on King and Cross st in Dundas in front of Free-wheel cycle then all you do is backtrack up King street a few metres past the thirsty cactus and it's the first set of stairs leading down you'll see before the DQ.

Now that you know where it is you should give the guy a look, He's still new and wondering what people want to see so tell him already. He even has a budy who does really neat little paper sculptures and does commissions of people and wow figures too. Link here. He does orders from his site but you can go to the store and take a look in person.

alright now that the plugging is out of the way here's the serious question. A few friends and myself want to run some monthly to semi monthly events at this place and are wodnering who would be interested in what. Our current ideas were run a monthly pen and paper rpg game long list to choose from but it'd likely be modules to begin with.

Secondly we want to try a monthly board/card game night. We figure bring a few board games and junk food and generally hang out maybe try a new game or two. We're open to suggestions of when would be easiest for people to want to show up but it'd likely be an afternoon to evening thing.

Finally I have a terrible addiction to the card game Munchkin and to that end with to addict/enjoy my affliction with like minded individuals. I currently have access to Munchkin bites and will likely pick up some other sets if this thing gets off tha ground. I like to think of myself as a pretty good teacher so if you don't know the game I can promise it's easy to learn and a lot of fun once it gets going. Ideally I'd want to run it maybe on the 1st thursday of the month but I can be flexible about the date again probably an evening thing though i'm sure the afternoon is doable.

When I talk to the gent I'll do a better post with more solid details but as it stands right now anyone interested?

    Hobbys
    Hello everyone,

So, I've lived in Hamilton for a little over 10 years now and I cannot think of anything to do in this city for fun as a young adult that does not involve drinking or spending too much money (I already know where I can do those things lol )

Sure there are trails and places to hike, but what types of interesting clubs does this city offer? I'm 24 years old and juggling a part time job and I'm in school full time... I just realized that I don't really have any hobbies and that my life is slightly a bit boring.

Are there any just for fun sport leagues? (not dodge ball, I know that there are leagues) ANYTHING?
