AboutWelcome to Therian Thoughts! Just what is this place all about?
Our community is intended to be a place for therians (and animal-based otherkin) to come to discuss their experiences, ask questions, and share stories with other like-minded individuals without feeling threatened, or needing to overly fear insulting other people. We strive to maintain an open atmosphere, and as such we ask that our members follow a few simple rules:
* We are an English-based community. We welcome those who speak other languages, but please make posts and comments in proper English (including proper punctuation and, if possible, spelling). Do not use chat-speak.
* Please cut long pictures and entries to be kind to those on dial-up or with slow processors! If you are posting a survey about yourself, please place under a cut (and do not spam the community with them). Quiz results are discouraged.
* Disagree with the opinion, not the individual. No two people will have the same exact opinion, thus it is expected for people to have disagreements. Yet one of the things that makes the world so exciting is the flow of new ideas and the discussion to perfect our own hypotheses on certain topics.
* Going along with that, realize that there is no ultimate description or answer for therianthropy. Everyone's experiences are different, and anyone implying that someone's experiences are incorrect or invalid will not be tolerated. If you don't understand, or want to clarify something, then discuss. Totems, animal spirit, and our own animal sides choose what way they wish to contact us, and this will be different for each person, based on their own personal experiences, thoughts, and interpretations.
* Do not gather "research" for papers from our entries. If you wish to interview our members, message a moderator (see below) before posting in our community. Following this, it is highly recommended that our members make their posts friends-only, so that only other members can read and respond to them. Also, please don't advertise your own forums or communities without asking a mod; listing a website that has helpful articles is great and doesn't need permission, self-advertising and recruitment are not.

(The definition of "therianthropy" differs from person to person, and is a working definition at best. For the purposes of our community, it is as such: a person having a close connection to, or with, an animal. This connection is closer than mere interest, and may be as strong as belief they have the soul/spirit of the animal themselves. Otherkin animals, such as unicorns, gryffs, kirin, are also welcome in this definition. Please see our links for more resources. We welcome all animal-related spiritualities/mentalities because, while we're not all therian, we can still learn and grow from each other, as well as find our correct paths.)
This community is moderated. Your application to join will be reviewed by the mods. 99% of all applicants are accepted; however, if your journal has no information, entries, or profile, or if your profile includes beastiality, zoophilia, or the like, it will not be accepted. We love animals enough to respect them and understand that in our current forms, humans and animals do not mix in a sexual way. If you were denied access to the community and do not understand why, please contact us.
