we are so close. oh my goodness.

now, i know that this community is pretty much dead, but i'd still like to post our spoiler policy, in the hopes that when you're done reading, you'll come here to discuss the book.

ANYTHING between the front and back cover of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows MUST go behind a CLEARLY LABELED LIVEJOURNAL CUT. please see our info if you are unsure of how to use a LiveJournal cut.

if you spoil this book for anyone in this community, you will be banned. not only that, but i'll make sure your first born child gets eaten by a herd of hippogriffs. ..and maybe your second born, if i feel the need.

this policy is only in place until the twenty-eighth. then, you can openly post that Harry's dead (because we all know that he's going to die), Voldie was the founder of the Weird Sisters, and Romilda Vane is really the darkest witch around.

I've been doing some thinking about R.A.B, or Regulus Arcturus Black. Regulus and Arcturus are both names of stars, which I thought might have some significance, like Sirius' name.

Regulus:
-brightest star in the constellation Leo
-Latin for "prince" or "little king." In Arabic, called "heart of the lion." Retranslated to Latin, that's "Cor Leonis."
-spins extremely fast - if it spun 16% faster it'd tear itself apart
-One of the four "royal stars" in Persian astronomy; its appearance dictated summer solstice. Its name meant "watcher of the south."
-In astrology, it's associated with:
--Granite, a fairly common rock often used in architecture, including some Egyptian pyramids.
--Mugwort/Wormwood, which has a variety of uses. It repels insects. Because it stimulates the nervous system, it was often used by travelers to avoid fatigue. It's toxic in large doses, but beer used to be flavored with it. In witchcraft, it's said to cause lucid dreaming and/or astral travel. Interestingly, Chernobyl is the Ukrainian word for "mugwort."

Arcturus:
-part of the constellation Bootes, the "Bear Watcher"
-in Greek, it means "Bear Guard." In Arabic, it means "lofty lance-bearer" or "keeper of the heavens."
-third brightest star in our sky, after Sirius
-mentioned twice in the Book of Job. Job, if you know your Bible, had a whole bunch of bad shit (e.g., plagues, people he loved dying) thrown at him by God in order to prove his loyalty.
-In astrology, it's associated with:
--The gemstone Jasper, an impure form of quartz that is red, yellow-y brown, and rarely green.
--Plantains, a banana-ish sort of fruit, useful for insect and snake bites.

Make of all that what you will. Keep in mind that my source for all of this was Wikipedia. I couldn't really find any connections or possible theories about R.A.B, except for the Cor Leonis/Corleone similarity.

My theory is that Regulus Black is a mob boss and I'm sticking to it. That, or he's full of radiation and causes a nuclear meltdown. Hey, this is the Quibbler after all.

fourteen days, some odd hours, minutes and seconds until OotP! TWENTY-FOUR DAYS, some odd hours, minutes and seconds until DH! i'm suddenly super excited. so excited that i made a new layout. the HBP one was, you know, okay for the last two years, but i guess we needed a change.

last week, i re-read HBP. Dumbledore kept saying throughout the whole thing "you have something Voldie doesn't: LOVE." and i kept getting this vision in my head of the last battle. i imagine that it will be at Hogwarts, with the last Horcrux between Harry and Voldie. Harry has his broomstick and hops on it. he flies towards Voldie, jumps off and hugs Voldie. Voldie melts.

remember that this community is The Quibbler. haha.

so how's it going? any new theories? are you excited? what are your midnight movie/book plans? have you seen the two new-ish Potter Puppet Pals? the angst one is my new favorite. so funny.

Dumbledore said that since Voldemort tried out for DADA teacher, they haven't been able to keep one for more than a year. He acknowledged that there IS a curse, and that the DADA teachers never stay on for more than a year.

So, why, if he knew this, would he allow Snape to become one?

Because he knew that Snape would be leaving at the end of the year. Something would cause Snape to leave... or to be driven out...

And what better than killing Dumbledore to do it?

Rofl waffle I just realized. You know that old theory that being a werewolf (and with werewolves being perishable by silver bullet through the heart?), Lupin'll DIE at the series thanks somehow to Peter's silver hand?

Weeeell what if that happens but it ends up being Bill, now?

Which'd make more sense, since he's not fully werewolf... it'd probably take less drastic means of silver to finish him off.

Hate to say it but, as much as I like Bill, I'd be relieved if it were only him, if it'd keep Remus around...

I have a question about Dumbledore's remarks on the prophecy in Book 6.

If Dumbledore said basically that it was just a prophecy and Harry didn't HAVE to kill Voldemort but he was doing it out of the good of his own heart, why are there even prophecies?

Sorry, I am just really confused.

About R.A.B being Regulus A. Black. In OotP, when they are cleaning the room in Sirius' house, the find a locket that 'could not be opened'. Anyone else think that could maybe be the horcrux Harry is looking for? If so, he'd own it already, which would be a bad thing for Voldemort and that would be a nice plot point for JK.

so i finished.

so i fucking hate Snape. even after that second chapter, i trusted him. i don't care how many times Dumbledore says that he's human, i still trust whatever he says because, hi, he's Dumbledore. even after that second chapter, i continued to trust Snape, because Dumbledore did. i sobbed. i was so down yesterday. my family's like "wtf is wrong with you!" UH DUMBLEDORE DIED. oh my god.

speaking of the second chapter, i was very surprised by the first two. it's always nice to see what's happening outside of Harry's life. i thought it was cool to see the interaction between the Muggle authorities and Wizarding authorities.

Draco. Draco Malfoy is like, the worst Death Eater in the world. that scene between him and Dumbledore was amazing.
"dude, Dumbledore, i'm going to kill you."
"no, Draco. you are not."
"what! i am too!"
"then do it."
"well..."
"my point exactly, Draco."
okay, i'm paraphrasing, but you get the point.

in the cave. oh my. sososo sad.

i must say, though, that the book felt rather rushed. i didn't hate it, but i did think that it went by really quickly. i didn't think i'd be able to finish it this week, because i have company at my house and i've been working. it's just weird.

Harry not going back to Hogwarts? Hogwarts not even opening again? weird.

BEST PART IN THE BOOK: page 391. i was in drivers ed reading this, trying so hard not to fall over laughing. "I love her," repeated Ron breathlessly. "Have you seen her hair, it'as all black and shiny and silky...and her eyes? Her big dark eyes? And her-" oh man.

the romance stuff..well, it didn't bother me. i like how Ginny/Harry turned out. Ron/Hermione..i like where it is now. Ron/Lavendar is, of course, pretty disgusting. Won-Won. oh, that was sickening. i keep hearing people saying "she shouldn't add any romance! blahblahblah!" but they are sixteen/seventeen. hormones are raging.

what i don't have right now are theories. i, like many others, could only think of Regulus Black as R.A.B.

HEY, AND WHAT ABOUT THE HBP. we found out who it was. Snape. gross. i hate Snape.

i'm done!

i'm seeing all these "omg you guys are stupid, Dumbledore wanted Snape to kill him! i thought everyone would've picked up on that!" things.

right now, i'm not ready to jump on that bandwagon.

overall, i did think it was a good book. a bit rushed, but good.

All right, finished HBP.

I know I will be drawn and quartered by an angry mob of Quibblerites if I spoil anything, so I'll keep it simple.

Does anyone else think that book seven will have to be REALLY good, REALLY long, and REALLY thorough after this? There are STILL so many unanswered questions, and now there are NEW ones cropping up, and storylines and bloodlines and connections between characters and questions of loyalty and so on and so forth. In order to tie all of these loose ends that are so far flapping wildy in the wind, book seven will pretty much have to be an epic of Utter Realization and Revelation. Or else, what I'm afraid of might happen. If any of you are Matrix fans, you'll know how much the third movie did NOT answer any of the rather thought-provoking questions the first two presented. Fanfiction reigned supreme over canon, and people felt gypped all around. Now, I have more faith in JK Rowling than I do the Wachowski brothers, but I can't help feeling that nagging feeling--what if book seven leaves us empty? Will it? Or will every question be answered?

I don't know. But I'm pretty sick of "interpret-your-own" endings. I want the next HP volume to be solid dark chocolate chock-full of crunchy Fantastic Revelations with a chewy ribbon of Satisfying Closure running right through the middle.

I guess the real question now is.. Who is R.A.B? The only name I thought of was Regulus Black. The problem is, he's dead. So here's my theory. If R.A.B is Regulus Black, then his things might still be at 12 Grimmauld Place - unless Mundungus Fletcher stole it. Now and then through the book people would talk about how shifty he is, and then there was the confrontation in Hogsmeade. I don't think all of that would be in the book if it wasn't pretty important. JKR seems to have cut out a lot of superfluous stuff in this one, apparation lessons for example.

Theories aside. Would Ron and Hermione just hurry it up already? I mean, seriously, could there be any more tension between the two of them?

Did anyone else wake up at 6:45 AM in order to watch the Today Show, where Jim Dale was going to read an excerpt from one of the Harry Potter books (possibly HBP, they wouldn't say) only to wait an HOUR AND FOURTY FIVE MINUTES for him to read from OOTP? And I could've sworn in the middle of the show they said he was reading from the new book..

They deprived me of precious sleep and got my hopes ALL up and made me WAIT while watching those stupid fake hosts talk about NON-STICK PANS for NOTHING. I want to cry nowww.

BUUUUT. THREE DAYS! That fact in itself is enough to make me feel a million times better.

It's so close now and I'm certain I'm not alone in my growing obsessiveness. Fifteen days. The countdown has been on my computer desktop since the days when it seemed like it was foreveeeer. And now it's TWO WEEKS from tomorrow! I wish I had a HP advent calendar.. you know, with those chocolates? I loved those when I was little lmao..

Anyway, that's not the point!! I wanted to make a Quibbler post since I was feeling very obsessive. And I thought that I would ask.. will anyone else here be attending Spellbound (http://www.spellbound2005.com) for the release? because I will beee and I'm so incredibly excited. It should be lots of fun and the perfect way to pass those anxious hours before the release. I figured I would ask, anyway.

So. Yeah. What about that book, huh? God, I really am excited.. and we'll have so much to discuss once it's out!!

I need to reread the series over the next two weeks. I'm going to start tomorrow. I also plan to comb it over for details scrupulously. And take notes. Lots of notes. So that I have good reference materials while I read, and perhaps some fun stuff to discuss.

mmk. I'm sure you don't care. But my main question is.. how are YOUU passing these anxious, exciting days before the release?

this community is pretty dead at the moment, but i have hopes that it won't be when HBP comes out.

which brings me to my next topic.

-all posts with ANY information (this includes thoughts on new characters, deaths, chapter names, the last word of the book, ANYTHING) on HBP MUST go behind an LJ cut, clearly labeled SPOILERS. a spoiler space under the cut would also be nice, just in case. not sure how to do an LJ cut? under your LJ cut, you can gloat about how you knew who the HBP was the whole time, write about theories you have, any reactions you had, new characters you love, how much you hate Harry's angst, your crush on Neville, ANYTHING. i know this is primarily an HP theories community, but we're open to anything you want to discuss!

-if you want to share stories about going to midnight parties, or pictures of the event, feel free! if you want to show off a shirt you made, or that dark mark on your arm, or your nails that say "SLYTHERIN", or anything else, we'd love to see! we do request an LJ cut with any pictures, or particularly long stories.
