Does this mean Harry's not getting to Hogwarts this year?

I'm just as appalled as anyone else at what happened. It's more of a matter of how bad the damage was and whether we can finger the French for it.

She's a New Yorker... she may understand just a little better than many people.

Sometimes humor can lighten a mood. Dark humor is also often a way of dealing with bad things.

I actually thought the same thing...

GET A LIFE!!!!!

Not funny at all.

Nice to know that after 9/11 the world was shocked, and did all we could.

London, *our* capital gets hit, and jokes ALREADY rise.

Not funny.

I agree - not funny in my view. I am an American and I remember what 9/11 was like...I'm DAMN sure not going to think it's funny. And I'm betting the people who are knee-deep in injured people and blood aren't finding any humor in it, either.

Sympathies to the victims and their families...and you can rest assured that there are some of us who are definitely NOT laughing right now.

Thank you, btw, for all you guys did for US after we got hit.

To be fair to the poster, I'm joking about it with my friends, I'm British. It's how I deal with it. How we all (my friends and I) seem to be.

It made me laugh.

I don't know where my Aunt is, on a serious note, and it's so weird to think of all this destruction in places I've been before.

To answer your question, and not touch upon whether this is tasteful or needed or whatnot (I just woke up confused about all this, not having a clue what happened.)

No, because by 2005, Harry Potter will be out of Hogwarts. He starts school sometime far enough in the past (I don't remember the exact date,) that he's fully grown by now.

In any case, people's senses of humor are different. Some people far removed from the crisis will jump on you for making jokes, while some people worried about family members will be relieved at having a little chuckle. Of course, that spectrum varies wildly. That's my opinion on this.

it actually took me a while to understand where you were going with that. yes, it did make me chuckle considering the fact that i've been wrought with fright since i read the news article online and then watched cnn for a few minutes. i was just in london recently (last fall for an abroad program) and am so familiar with all the places that were hit this morning that it's frightening. those places are still very fresh in my memory. i have a very good friend in london right now and i'm not sure where she's at or how she's doing. i understand the use of humor in a tragedy and i actually appreciate it. after the initial shock, it feels good to smile at least for a second. my thoughts go out for all londoners and the british people right now. like tony blair said, though, "we will not be terrorized."

p.s. after reading some of the comments on here, i'm reminded of a "family guy" quote made by brian: "geez, peter, your excuses are as lame as FDR's legs". after he says this peter, chris and meg all look at him and gasp with shock at what brian said and he replies "oh, too soon?" i hope the "family guy" fans here can appreciate this. :)

I find it ridiculous that she felt the need to make such a joke in not one, but two communities. She must think she's soooooooo funny. *eyeroll*
