What does the phrase "for the greater good" make you think of?

Do you think this would be a good advertising slogan?

It's become sort of an advertising slogan/motto for something in my town and to me the phrase has a fairly negative connotation - like suck it up because it's for the greater good, or we're going to screw over the individual for the greater good. But maybe that's just me. So what does that phrase make you think of?

I have to agree with your sentiments.

It means, bend over we're about to ass rape you. No lube and no reach around allowed, but hey it's for the greater good so it's ok...

people see it in a negative connotation because in popular fiction it's always used by lunatics. but the idea behind "the greater good" is really the best possible concept, ever. everyone should be willing to make sacrifices or concessions for whatever does the greatest good.

Yay possums! This little guy used to raid my birdfeeder and he'd hiss at me when I went out to run him off. He was in the "so ugly it's cute" category.

Whilst I get that it's a positive idea (people working together for the betterment of all-damn commies) it's a negative image in my mind (screwing over individuals for the good of a collective.)
