Soldiers' widows sue for pagan symbols on headstones

"WASHINGTON (AP) -- The widows of two combat veterans sued the government Monday for not allowing Wiccan symbols on their husbands' military headstones.

"The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs allows military families to choose any of 38 authorized headstone images. The list includes commonly recognized symbols for Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and Judaism, as well as those for smaller religions such as Sufism Reoriented, Eckiankar and the Japanese faith Seicho-No-Ie.

"The Wiccan pentacle, a five-pointed star surrounded by a circle, is not on the list, an omission that the widows say is unconstitutional."

Wife Swap Fiasco -- catty post ahead

Ok. I'm gonna make a public statement here.

I heard that there was going to be a Wiccan on Wife Swap. Ok... one more person willing to make an ass out of themselves in the name of my religion. Great.

Then I found out that this is someone I have dealt with before.

Let's discuss Belladonna (Poison Ivy is what we nicknamed her or COW since her group was Covenant of the Wise, yeah right).

She and her husband posted that they were looking for teachers. This was back in ... 1999 maybe? Then eight months later, they suddenly post to the Georgia Pagans email group that they are 3rd degree Gardnerians. Mmm hmmm. I asked for their puppy papers. They gave them readily and easily.

And wrong. Oh so wrong. See, the female part of their lineage was Janet Farrar who has supposedly initiated one Mr. DeMartins. Big mistake. The Farrars were Alexandrian before they switched to the Tradition that Janet and Gavin still practice. Stuart, may he be in the lap of the Lady, was still alive then. Gavin sent me a response that Janet didn't even know this DeMartins character.

So I posted this to the GA Pagan list and actually mentioned that Belladonna might want to check out whomever had given her her 3rd because they were lying to her. She posted back that she'd made a mistake.

I'll say. From seeker to 3rd degree Gardnerian or Alexandrian in 8 months? Not unless you did it on your back and then we all know what kind of HPS that would make you, don't we.

She is nothing but a pimple on the ass of the Wiccan religion. It is people like her who charge for rituals ($10 in 99 got you into her Imbolc ritual but geeeee, you did get a candle and a packet of seeds as long as you brought your money and a dish to share). When I questioned her about that, she said she was using the surplus to make a larger driveway so people could park more easily.

I wish I could say that none of this was true. I wish I could say that I had never ever had any encounters with her. But I did. And I also know a few things from some of her former students about her sexual predator husband. But they can say what they need to if they like. They are here on LJ as well.

I am so glad that I avoid reality shows. I might have lost my dinner over this particular swap.

Help Needed

There is a group that wants to set up a blog that will:

Allow us to blog by moon phases
Set up calender entries to remind us of something.
Allow us to blog a month's worth of entries and post them so that they will show up by date.

This is for a Tarot group.

I have set up WordPress http://tarotbyarwen.com/tarotblog/ to play with this. Is WordPress capable of this? Does anyone have a better (free is best) suggestion?

Introduction

Hi there. I'm new to your community and thought I'd introduce Myself via My user info.

Is this community still active?

I have a rather lengthy website which I have been developing since the web went public, and I'm always looking for new innovations for the site. Right now, there is no perl, no css, no flash, and very little java on the site. I prefer HTML, personally, but to each their own. What can I say? I'm an old fashioned gal.

I'm actually quite excited about joining your group, and can't wait to network and share ideas from and with everyone.

Elswet.

Changes in the PWA

Wendy and Parker have decided that, after five years, it's time to move on from the PWA. So, they've passed on the torch to Inanna and me. Rules are still the same, the purpose is the same. After all, if it isn't broken, then why fix it?

Last updated:

Hey, is there a handy little script out there that will say when your website was last dated? I used to just manually enter a date last updated on the old site design, but now? I update everyday, and I never remember to change the front page by hand.

So, is there one that will do it for me?

Oh, yeah, and about the WarGoddess.net search engine vs. database. I found a search engine that does what I need, I'm just working on customizing it. I figured out that going purely database driven would take too much server resources. Much better off to stick with what I'm doing, what with the wonder of PHP includes and all. :)

When is it big?

What do you guys consider a big site? I've currently got 349 pages on WarGoddess.net, and it's getting bigger every day.

To me, that's a big site. Big enough where I might even need to consider putting a search engine on it, particularly if I can find a search engine that will search the databased stuff.

What do you think?

This is a commercial site but I am not asking you to go buy a reading from me. I want to know your thoughts and feelings on this site. Thanks so much for your help!

Frames vs no frames

I'm new here, and currently learning as I go while designing my personal web site. What does everyone think about frames vs no frames? Currently, mine has frames and a DTML menu, but somehow it's just not working for me. I'm redesigning for no frames, but I was wondering what others opinions were on this.
