Nathan Robinson (In Memoriam)
If anyone was curious as to who Nathan Robinson is, he was a 15-year old Newton, MA resident who died on March 14, 2007 from flu-related complications.

His obituary in the Boston Globe explains the story behind the video.

A few weeks before his death, Nathan was at a friend’s house, and the two were talking about “The Office,” their favorite television show. Nathan’s friend suggested he play the theme music to the program, so Nathan looked online for the sheet music. Nathan mastered the song almost instantly, and his impromptu performance was filmed and posted on YouTube.

Rest In Peace, Nathan.

He went to my school. We were friends when I was in 5th grade, and he was in 3rd. I never saw him again until he entered NNHS as a freshman, but he took my school bus and I recognized him immediately from his big backpack, filled to the brim with books. He was incredibly smart.

RIP.

Nathan really did play the theme well. I was in the other room and heard the song and was wondering why The Office decided to use a new version of the them for the ending credits. I popped my head in just in time to catch the "In Memoriam". Thank you for posting this. I knew this community would come through with an explanation.

Yes, they played this as the closing credits played at the end of the first (of four) repeat episodes that aired during a marathon tonight. (I guess you missed it but NBC re-aired the last four episodes that aired before the strike took effect since the season starts up again a week from tonight).

Okay, people die all the time. Like, literally.

But he played great piano AND loved The Office. The world has suffered a great loss. :(

i think it's more that they would go so far as to acknowledge his love for the office and loss that made it so special. Not just that he died, though that is a horrible tragedy.

At first I thought it was just one damn talented kid! I absolutely could never play the piano and he seemed very young. I was both amused and impressed. When the In Memoriam came up it just tore at my little heart. I don't know, I am getting from the comments that all of us watching just sensed this boy was so smart and genuine. All I can say is RIP. I'm sure his family and friends are still very proud of him.

I got a little tearyeyed when the In Memoriam came up. at first I was like, "wow! that was amazing, he did that really well" and then it popped up and it was just so sad.

the fact that they would play that at the end of an episode is just another reason why I love The Office and its crew.

Thank you for sharing. I hope that the family of Nathan drew some small amount of comfort from knowing that even strangers were touched by his talent. For those of you who knew him, you have my prayers if you want them, and if not, you have my sympathies for losing a friend. I'm so sorry.
