I was just having a conversation with my boyfriend about the more recent branching out of the characters on the internet, like Ryan, Kelly, and Erin conversing on twitter and the few new websites out there (Jim and Pam, Dwight, Ryan, Subtle Sexuality) and how it's changing the reality of the show.
It can be said that it is still a realistic trait of the characters to have their own small websites, but I don't get that feeling from them. Like, as an example, I don't feel like Dwight having a blog is true to his personality. For starters, his entry password is embarrassingly easy to guess (which leaves no reward to true fans who know their facts about the character) and his entries just seem like more of a cartoon version of himself.
I understand that marketing the show in these ways has extended the viewer numbers and gotten The Office more recognition. I also remember smaller things like this on the NBC website like little extra office videos and, if my memory is correct, creed thoughts or something of that nature.(I'm not exactly sure on that part but I remember there being some written dialogue outside of the episodes on the website). But I just get worried that the marketing is pulling us further away from holding together the personalities these characters have developed since season one and from that essence of reality in the mock documentary that made the humor so much richer.
I'm curious to hear how everyone feels about the sites. Are they funny? Do they feel to you like they hold up to the Characters? Feel free to let me know if you totally disagree and hate me ;D I just love being able to hear the different opinions.
