eARCs/Proofreading

Are these proofs?  Can they be corrected is what I want to know.  The consistency/constancy of text has, for unknown reasons, always been erratic in Miller/Lee.  Do we mention problems or not?

How spoilery do we get here?

OK, the nine chapters are up for anyone, free. Some of us will buy the e-arc. Some will get the Webscription and have half in July, 3/4 in August, and the whole final draft in September. Some of us will get our hardcopies sometime in September when Steve and Sharon get them all signed and mailed. A couple of us have already commented on the first chapter or two. Is there a consensus? How much do we give away how soon?

I would suggest that we limit comments to the first nine chapters now, and the webscription ones as they come out. Other ideas?

Getcher Red Hot E-Arc, with Extra Bonus Stories!

Truly, Mr. Bailey is a Wonder and a Marvel.

Fledgling, The Tomorrow Log, and Dragon Tide here for one, low, low price of $18US.

Sam Ting's Ugly Day.

I notice the phrase  "Is it worth taking to Delm Korval?" crops up neatly in the second section of the first chapter.  Much smoother.

Fledgling Sample Chapters OnLine

Baen has posted the first nine chapters of Fledgling, starting here. Many thanks to Brom O'Berin, whose great-great-&c-grandson plays such an important role in Mouse and Dragon, for this information.

The first draft of Fledgling will be coming down today, as I have time to do it, around finishing up the above-referenced Mouse and Dragon.

For those who do not visit Baen's Bar, it was announced some days ago that the Fledgling E-Arc, which will become available from Webscriptions realsoonnow, will be bundled with The Tomorrow Log and Dragon Tide.

And, now: more coffee.

Fledgling flying in September

Over here http://www.webscription.net/p-1031-w200909-september-2009-webscription.aspx as an ebook (leading off the September collection!) and http://www.baen.com/scheduleXML.asp here as hardcopy. No sign of an eArc yet, but there's still time.

So Fledgling is coming soon to bookstores and ebook readers near you! Yeah! Tell all your friends and fambly and eberyone.

Which more than likely means Steve and Sharon are gonna have a shipping party, too.

Theo Waitley!

As mentioned elsewhere and promised some time back (isn't RSN a useful time-frame?) we have the first installment of Saltation, rough-draft podcast. No, the podcast isn't rough, but the weekly posting will be from the rough draft and not the (still being worked on) final draft.

Long time Liaden fan Charlie Schlenker is providing voice, Sam Chupp has arranged hosting and support and the image you see here, and starting next week the podcast will go live on ... Mondays, instead of Monday evening as it did this time.

Please feel free to spread the word! Also, I hope if you're in range of Hight Point, North Carolina and StellarCon ... http://www.stellarcon.org/home ... you'll come on by and visit us this weekend. Tell 'em Sharon and Steve snet you ... we're the literary Guests of Honor....

Adminstrative Announcement the Second

At this time there are no (that's NO) plans for a continued serialization of the Life and Adventures of Theo Waitley.

Please, please, please, I beg of you, do not send me money for the "third book." I'll only have to refund it, which will frustrate us both.

Thank you.

Switch over to Liaden Readers?

As you know, Bob, we're waiting with baited breath for the next thrilling episode in the life and times of Theo. So while we wait, some of our fans might wander over to http://community.livejournal.com/liaden_readers/ and take a look at another fine volume in the histories -- Conflict of Honors! Yes, for a time, we'll take a look at how a wandering ex-priestess makes a living on tradeships, loses her place, and finally learns how to Balance honors with a Liaden Master Trader. Come one, come all, to the weekly walk through Conflict of Honors. See you there!

Administrative Announcement

As many of you know, we have handed the final draft of Fledgling in to Toni Weisskopf at Baen. Toni believes that there will be an e-arc of the final draft available in March or April. When the e-arc becomes available, the first draft of Fledgling will come down off the web.

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled newsgroup.

Reviews? Previews?

Just thinking. We're going to be seeing Fledgling later this year, with Saltation sometime to follow. But we could go ahead and make some notes about what we'd say in a review or comment about the works, just based on what we've read here, right? And maybe discuss that for a while?

In other words, suppose someone asked you what Fledgling is all about. What would you tell them? Do you recommend it? And what about Saltation? Are these YA books?

Feel free to add a disclaimer about your comments being based on the online draft, not the finished work, since there may be differences.

Happy New Year!

I began 2009 reading the last chapter of 'Saltation' - a good omen for the year, I think!

It is going to be absolutely fascinating to read the published versions and to see all the extra subtleties that Our Authors will add in revision: but the way that Theo grows in the stories, and how she copes with all the strange events that befall her and the interesting people she meets is already so compelling.

And the earlier Liaden books are being re-published! My copies are literally falling apart (curse that 'perfect binding'!) so I can not only replace them, I can also buy extra copies for my daughter, who _will_ insist on borrowing my originals! Yep, 2009 is going to be a very happy year for books.

Sudden realization

We got Chapter 37 a day early, and then we get Chapter 38 before Christmas. I bet our Auctors are taking the week off, and our next chapter will be posted on January 4,2009.

AARGH! Another long wait for the next chapter.

Merch

I would like a giant Tree and Dragon poster. For not more than $20.

...Do these exist?

I see http://www.cafepress.com/srmpublisher but it's not exactly what I'd want. Does SRM have a Deviantart account? ^^

LJ help!

I am getting really frustrated with LJ, especially with these exciting chapters that elicit so much comment. Can anybody tell me if it is possible to:

1) Get all the posts to appear in an un-indented list, without having a bunch of them truncated to just the title, so I have to keep clicking on subthreads and then backing up into the main thread again?

or

2) Somehow "mark read" everything that shows in one session, so that the next time I visit, I only see the new stuff?

Thanks, Abigail

Chapter 37 - Inheritable Terran Title?

Quote:  This one fell heir to a title belonging to one who aided in, and who was involved in the funding of the building of Bechimo.

So what Terran titles have been mentioned in previous books that a fringe pilot might have?
