Hi -new member here- and LK audio cassete

Hi everyone. You can say i'm new to LJ and this community. Even though I'm 15, you can say I grew up with LK. My sister who is now 20, was OBSESSED with LK when she was very little. She had a lot of LK merchandise: t-shirts (which I wear if some fit me), birthday party favors (I remember that birthday party), pencils, lunchboxes, gosh you name it. But unfourtunatley, she eventually grew out of that. We have the original LK on VHS bought in 1995 for my sister and we watched it from time to time but LK just sort of died in my house. Until one day when I was 10 lol. I revived LK in my house again because I started to watch the movie a lot more and listen to the soundtrack on daily basis (which I still do). I beccame obsessed myself with Young Simba and IJCWTBK. And the rest is history. I love LK and always will. It teaches great lessons too! Especially the second movie. 1/2 I thought was ehhhh lol funny but ehhh lol.

My dad also happened to get my sister when she was little the authentic 1994 LK soundtrack on audio cassete. It stopped being listened to along with the movie of course when my sister grew out of it. I was only 2 when my sister saw LK in theaters with my parents. I was babysat by my grandparents lol while they were out. So yeah, when I was 10 I found the LK audio cassete soundtrack lying around my house - pretty dusty - and played it. The rest is history too. My family has listened to the audio cassete so much, the text on both sides is practically rubbed off! When my sister wanted to record her voice when she was younger she recorded it on the audio cassete player but the LK audio cassete was in the machine when she pressed 'record'. Uh-oh! LOL So yeah, she recorded over half of the begining og Circle of Life on side B. Here's the copy I have. Does anyone else have it on audio cassete?

yah.jpg

^ See what I mean? The text is so faded from use!

Also has anyone read The Chronicles of The Pridelands? You know, the story of how Scar got his scar, Muffy, the prophecy etc? I'm half-done with it. Ok so reply to this anyone if you can and it's nice to meet you all!

Laura

Actually, that's not the soundtrack cassette. It's the Sing-Along cassette. :) I have it hidden away in my cassette case and the text is still visible. There were only five or six songs on it and it came with a smallish catalog-like pamphlet with other audio books from Disney.

Sorry for the large-ness of the image but here's a side-by-side comparison to the two cassettes (Sing-Along and Soundtrack).

Hi mushroom. It's really cool that you still have a cassette of LK. I remember that I used to have an LK game on floppy disk at one point, but no longer :(

Could I add you to my f-list?

Thanks :) Indeed they have. I might still have it lying around somewhere amongst all the clutter lying around, but even if I do, I know longer have a floppy disk player anymore.

I know it did didn't it? You know chronicles of the pridelands isn't fiction - it's truth! LOL I was so srprised when I read about Taka's (Scar's) love for Sarabi.

Wait, what? You know those stories are fanfiction created by people in no way connected to Disney and not considered to be true canon, right?

Oh I know that! It's just that the story seems so authentic and sensible that it just seems like it's from the movie. I wonder what Disney wanted the story to be behind Scar's jealousy his scar.

Ah, okay, I couldn't tell whether you were serious or not. Just checking! I apologize if I offended you, I just know some people who really DO take the stories as canon, when it's really not. :P

Apparently, though, according to some stories published by Disney, Scar got his scar from an angry water buffalo. Not even kidding about that. X_X

Awww. So cute to see such eagerness in a fan. :)

Though it's scary realising that you hadn't started school when I first got into the TLK fandom, and were probably still being breast-fed when the movie came out. Aaaagh. Sudden attack of oldness!

lol thanks. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL! I wasn't breast-fed lol but yeah I was REALLY young when the movie came out in theaters. Like I said, I was two years old. LOL you can't be too old. You must be like what, 20 like my sister? She was six I think. Gosh I get ages wrong.

Try 'closer to 30 than 20'. I was 17 when I got into TLK fandom bigtime, back around 1999 when Simba's Pride came out in the UK.

Heh.. There's actually some of my very old and somewhat embarrassing fanfic on the link posted earlier.

It makes me feel old when people are talking about audio cassettes like they're some kind of ancient relics.;) I still have the soundtrack on cassette (and the sing-along too, somewhere) and amazingly, it still works just fine. I still remember when I got it for my (I think?) 12th birthday, I was so happy. At the time we were staying at my grandma's house where they only had a very old cassette player, one that had barely been in use anymore, and when we inserted the cassette in it, to my horror the tape started unwinding! I was incredibly upset as I thought my birthday present had been destroyed, but fortunately my uncle was able to repair the tape with - at least as far as I could tell - no damage to the sound quality.

I read the first story of the Chronicles of the Pride Lands a long time ago, sometime around 1997 or 1998. I thought it was okay, but a bit too heavy on the religious symbolism and melodrama.

BTW, if you want to know Disney's version of how Scar got his namesake and some background to his and Mufasa's relationship (although not nearly as in-depth as CotPL), I suggest you look up the Lion King: Six New Adventures books.

LOL. Your uncle sounds a lot like my grandpa that passed away. He used to mend things up for us. Same went with tapes. my cassete works just fine too. I still play it on a daily basis. Do you like I just can't wait to be king? Cub Simba rocks my socks.

I really like CotP but it's a little too dramatic, yeah. Yes, I did read Six new adventures - Taka got his scar in a wildebeast accident, I know. But the one in CotP where a badger attacked them is a little cheesy, I like the way he got it in the 6 new adventures.

Btw, you like my avatar? Where did you get yours? I like how it's a Bambi 2 one.

IJCWTBK isn't my favorite song from the movie (CYFTLT and "Hakuna Matata" are). But I adore the sing-along version of that song, even more so than the sung version, I think.

Uh, sorry, but I have no idea who your avatar is supposed to be.

Are you by chance the same Mushroom that used to go to Lea Halalela? If so, check my friends list, you might see some people you already know.

Welcome to LJ and the TLK group.

I was into Lion King in a big way when CotPL was still being written, and was quite active in the online community and interacted regularly with co-authors John Burkitt and David Morris (Ian Layton too, who co-authored at least one of the later installments with them). David and I also worked together on the Lion King Character Encyclopedia. Lotsa fun times in those days. I've moved on since Lion King, as I think most of the fans involved at the time have, but I met a lot of nice people online and have many fond memories. I still have yet to meet either John or David and would still like to if the opportunity arises (I've met Ian, aka [info]ramalion, several times and still see him whenever I make it to a furry convention).

Wow...so you've been there since the making of it! That's really awesome. I've always wanted to go to a LK convention. I wonder what it's like. Can you tell me?

To my knowledge there has never been a TLK convention, though we used to kid about it a lot way back when. The ones I've been to are furry conventions, and there are quite a few former (and in some cases still active) TLK fans who are involved in furry fandom and attend conventions regularly.
