1:09 am [lostphrack]	BotI Anime Licensed. I know it's a bit lackluster, but hey.. figured I'd share. Media Blasters licenses Blade of the Immortal Media Blasters, in its usual solicitationary way, has "announced" that it has licensed Bee Train's anime adaptation of Blade of the Immortal. Here's the listing from the solicitation topic: Blade of the Immortal, Vol.1 - 125 minutes - $29.99 - 9/29/09 Click the link for more info. I am re-reading BotI because it is awesome and I am bored and I came across something in Volume 13, Mirror of the Soul (of the English language version, obs) that confuses me... So, in the chapter entitled Mirror of the Soul Part 2, Anotsu bursts back into Makie's shack, grabs her pipe, smells it and gives her this angry/disgusted look and she just looks sheepish/ashamed. Maybe this is obvious to everyone else, but what the heck is implied here? Is she supposed to be smoking opium or some other drug? If so, does it have something to do with her hand.. or just that she's destitute and resorted to drugs... I dunno. :) Your thoughts/insight? 7:18 pm [llewelyn]	Anime I know I'm really late and I just posted about the manga earlier, but I finally got bugged into watching the anime by a Christmas-time visitor, and I'm sad I gave in. Watched a few episodes in before I just gave up. Pros: It's BotI! Cons: Voice acting seems unfitting for some characters, especially Manji (did anyone else think he'd be a lot more gruff?). Music's just awful and definitely unfitting. Skyscrapers? The violence is not only intensely toned down but more generic. Yay, Blade of the Immortal finally gets ANIME STYLE BLACK SCREEN WITH RED SLASHES action! Just what I always wanted! Screw pencil spreads! D:< The plot has been BUTCHERED. Scenes have been added and removed and rearranged haphazardly and it loses a lot of the original context. Much of it seems intentional, to variously sanitize it or dumb it down for a broader audience--same with the toned down violence. Considering how meek they're being, I wonder how they're even going to DO scenes like hacksaw rape, or if they'll simply be cut out entirely. Regardless of that curiosity, I just can't bring myself to watch more. I've seen other manga made into anime almost word-for-word (Claymore, for instance--for the first 20 episodes) so it was really sad to see not only the style but character and plot of BotI so corrupted. So, I'm curious if anyone else has changed their opinion of the show after seeing more episodes in than the first, which was the last one discussed on here? (8 Comments |Comment on this)

2:37 pm [llewelyn]	Demon's Lair Have to admit. Felt the series had been meandering half-heartedly after Rin's encounter with Anotsu. But Demon's Lair is the best damn trade paperback in the series (to be released in the US, at least). Surprised to see things actually improving this late in the series. Good surprise, though. Why do they have to mess with art, just leave the manga the way it is and have readers read right to left. Its not that hard.
