1. What is the one most important thing by your side, right now? It's a tiny, sick, little mouse that I rescued from PetCo about an haour and a half ago. Seriously.

I was up there buying cat food, right? I always look at the cats for adoption, then work my way around to the little critters, like the rats, ferrets and mice. I love mice. I have 3 as pets.

Ennyhoo...I saw this one teensy little guy in the males' cage, and he was struggling to breathe. He looked very weak and I decided that I needed to take him home to try and save him.

I asked the clerk if I could have him, since he looked like a goner anyway. She was concerned, as well, because he'd been the object of bullying from the other, bigger boys. She asked her boss. He said that I could have for the price of the tax on the regular sales price...14 cents.

The girl, Pearl, had secretly named him Louie when she first noticed his difficulties a few days ago. She asked me to keep her informed as to how he was doing.

I got him home, cleaned out the Girls' cage and stuck him in there. I had my fingers crossed that they'd accept him...and they did! They started grooming him and fussing over him, like he was their baby. (Mice are very good parents!)

I took him out and hand fed him some water and some small animal formula I have stashed here just in case. I live in the woods and I'm always finding injured animals and birds.

He has some sort of upper respiratory problem..a cold, perhaps? I made a little tent for him which consists of a warm, dry washcloth with a dab of Vicks smeared onto it. He actually seems to be doing better. He's breathing easier.

Right now, I'm keeping him warm inside my bra, betwixt my breasts. Yes, you read that correctly.

2. Why is it so important? I have to try and save him! He's so little, and has had a shitty life, up to this point, and I have to at least try to let him have a good little mousie life. Even if he doesn't make it, at least he had a little comfort before the end.

Yes, I might seem crazy, but every living creature deserves a chance at a good life.

3. Can you live without it? Yes, I could, but right now, he's my top priority.

4. What is the one thing you can't live without? Air and water and food. Everything else is superfluous.

5. Who is the one person you can't live without? My two grown kids. And my 90 year old Dad. That's technically three, but I lump them together.

Post Script...Little Louie didn't make it. I tried, but he was just too ill. RIP, little guy. *sobs*

Well, I think it's in my DNA or something, to care for animals. I've always had this connection with them. This was something different, though. I could just picture him ending up in the trash or something, and I just couldn't let that happen. He did have a few hours of a good mousie life before the end.

Thank you for your kind words.

As someone currently nursing a sick bunny, I empathasize with your pain/loss.

He died in a much better state than if he had been left at PetCo.

I hope bunny is doing well. You are a good person. It's a kind heart that cares for animals. The world need more kind hearts.

I called PetCo the next day to tell them what happened, and they seemed genuinely bummed. The manager said she'd never had someone do that before, and thought that was the nicest thing she'd ever seen, and felt bad that she even had to charge me anything for him. If it were up to her, she'd have just given him to me. I thought that was nice of her to say.

Thank you for your kind words.

That is pretty much the sweetest and saddest thing I've read. I agree, little Louie definitely had a better last few hours with you than he would have in the pet store.

I wish my questions had some sort of poignant answer, but I'm at work, so they won't:

1. What is the one most important thing by your side right now?
My red pen

2. Why is it so important?
Because it would be harder to do my job without it

3. Can you live without it?
Yes, I acually don't like red pens

4. What is the one thing you can't live without?
Besides the obvious food and water? My computer

5. Who is the one person you can't live without?
My significant other - he keeps me sane in this mad, mad, mad world

I'm just glad that I spotted him. When I was watching him in the tank with the other boy mice, he looked so tiny and fragile and weak. I had to do something. He needed someone to care about him. I couldn't let him end up in the trash.

That little time he was with me and The Girls, he seemed quite happy. He was relishing the attention. I know that seems crazy to say that about something as little as a mouse, but his whole demeanor was radically different. Like he knew things were going to be better.

I gave him a proper burial the next day. I have a little area below my house, under a grove of evergreens, where I bury my pets and other hapless critters that find their way to me when they're sick or injured. He has lots of company there.

I like your answer to number five. I think we all need someone to keep us sane. For me, it's my 90-year-old Dad, my two grown kids, and all my aminals.

Thanks for trying.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for living the way you do.

Thank you for making my day.

My parents are in their 80s...I can live without them...but I would rather keep them around a good long time.

May you be surrounded and loved by others who love as well as you. {hug}

# What is the one most important thing by your side right now?
Well, that would be my planner.

# Why is it so important?
Without it I couldn't remember anything, haha

# Can you live without it?
I suppose I could, it just makes it way easier.

# What is the one thing you can't live without?
Food, water, shelter.

# Who is the one person you can't live without?
At the moment I'm going to say my sister.

1. What is the one most important thing by your side right now? My can of Diet Pepsi (I'm in the library at school)

2. Why is it so important? It keeps me caffienated, awake, alert, and focused, especially when my Adderall wears off. Oh, and hydrated, of course.

3. Can you live without it? In the literal sense, yes. I would have a killer caffeine withdrawel headache for a few days, but my body would still function. In the figurative sense, no, because it keeps me going, and keeps me from killing pedestrians/other people/myself while driving at night.

4. What is the one thing you can't live without? Figurativly, and tangible: a pen, because pencils hurt my hands, I'm always scribbling stuff down, and I use them constantly. Intangible: hope. Without the hope that someday things will get better, the world is bleak and unwelcoming.

5. Who is the one person you can't live without? Technically, as long as I have food, water, and shelter, I can live. Besides my parents, my life would be pretty sucky without my cat Zoe.

What is the one most important thing by your side right now? As far as a posession goes... it's my iPhone

Why is it so important? It is my life line to the world and it is important for me to always have it with me for work purposes!

Can you live without it? I am sure I COULD live without it, but then I couldn't have the job I have now.

What is the one thing you can't live without? My Husband

Who is the one person you can't live without? My Husband!

1. What is the one most important thing by your side right now? The only important thing anywhere near me is my laptop, which is technically in front of me... not by my side.

2. Why is it so important? Because it contains my entire life and I really couldn't do school without it.

3. Can you live without it? As a college student, no.

4. What is the one thing you can't live without? Water.

5. Who is the one person you can't live without? No one, and I hope that's always true. But I really don't want to have to live without my aunt. And my best friend.

1. What is the one most important thing by your side right now? Literally by my side? It's more in front of me, but the computer I'm working on right now.
2. Why is it so important? I do 90% of my schoolwork on it. It keeps me in touch with my family and friends, and is my dominant research tool. It also holds all my music, backups of my novel-in-progress, and tons of pictures.
3. Can you live without it? Yes, but I wouldn't be happy about it at all.
What is the one thing you can't live without? The one thing? Life is an abundance of requirements. Physically, I need my body, oxygen, water, food, sleep, the occasional bath. Spiritually, I need a sense of purpose to my existence.
Who is the one person you can't live without? Kind of over being dependent. In my early 20s and in full health, I should be capable of existing on my own, physically and emotionally. That isn't to say I want to; I dearly value my parents, siblings, and my best friends. However, should I be exiled to a land where I know no one, or should the unthinkable happen to everyone I know and love, I could survive, and-- through that sense of purpose I require-- find meaning to my life in spite of their absence. (Not to knock anyone, but I'm kind of shocked at how many people *can't live without* their SO. Weren't you once alive and functioning before they came into your life? And even happy? Maybe I'm being too literal here).
